How can they trade the 24 pick? They can't trade two in a row, and to trade the 24 they'd have to have given up the 23rd pick, otherwise it would be going to the Bulls.
If we come to an agreement with the Bulls to remove the protection from the pick we owe them so they are guaranteed to get it this year, then all of our first rounders are available to trade starting in 2025. We could also offer pick swaps starting next year after protections are removed.
Think about that? So they accept that deal and the Blazers get a bunch better by trading for Durant and their pick goes to a late first round. Why would they do that?
One good thing will be the added National TV appearances the Blazers get after this trade is finalized! Probably should give that trail cat a bath.
I think this would get the job done and if they wanted swaps in 2024, 2026 and 2028 I would be willing to do that too. If Nas were starting at the 2 you'd have a rotation of Dame, Nas, Jerami, KD, Claxton, Payton, either Justise or we can if we can get Vanderbilt for Justise and the three seconds we have available, Trendon and Drew. That actually might be good enough to win the whole thing this year if not it's a helluva jumping off point for next season.
The fact is where we're at right now they don't even get the pick this season and it wouldn't be a three way trade, we wouldn't have to tell them what trade we're making just that we want to take the protection off. This has literally never been a problem with teams before. It's happened a bunch of times.
I would think Sean Marks would jump at that trade involving both Ant & Sharpe. Plus he knows it would help PDX & Dame contend.
Yeah, I think he'd go for it too. What I didn't say is that we reportedly have at least two teams pursuing Josh (Cavs and Heat), so obviously when offering this deal to Marks we would tell them what is available out there for Josh so he can see even more value in him, either flipping Josh after the trade or bringing in one of those teams in a three team deal. We'll see what happens but the Nets have to be selling KD around the league or they have to be trying to sell KD on how he wins more rings by staying in Brooklyn.
If the goal is to win one with Dame, then you have to make Sharpe and Ant available to Brooklyn. Dame/Durant/Grant is a championship combo. Try to surround them with ring chasers in the off-season.
Great, so Cronin offers Simons, Sharpe and Hart for Durant. The Nets say thanks, but no thanks, and we’re left not knowing and pissed that he is too conservative.
That kind of thing typically comes out. If he isn’t traded then it’s whatever but if he’s dealt for a worse trade then we can wonder.
If the Nets decide to blow it up and trade Durant before the deadline, you can bet almost every team in the league will be ponying up offers that include multiple players and picks. I think the Blazers’ lack of a first rounder to trade would be a significant impediment. The rumor mill/mock draft world is already churning. https://www.sportsmockery.com/chicago-bulls/the-bulls-must-capitalize-by-acquiring-kevin-durant/?amp
Like ten different times protections have been changed or taken off of picks to allow big trades. The only way I could see Chicago not letting us give them a second rounder or just some cash to guarantee that pick is if they were trying to get Durant and unlike you, I don't think every team will be ponying up. There will be more than a handful but not even half of the teams will want to give away almost all of their draft assets and young talent to get a 34 year old superstar.
You know, your condescending tone is growing a wee bit irritating. I’m well aware that protections can be removed if the receiving team agrees. Since the link I shared proposed the Bulls making a run at Durant, I was operating under the assumption that they wouldn’t be cooperative. Since it’s just a Bulls fan’s mock trade, who knows if there’s anything to it. Note that I used the word “impediment”, not “impossibility”. Up until recently, I’ve never had a bone to pick with you. I respect your knowledge and, most of the time, your takes. This is a forum, so I have no problem with people criticizing something I say if they can back it up. But do it respectfully, not like you’re delivering your superior knowledge of the truth to the village idiots. That won’t play well.
I'm no expert and have no dog in the fight but i really didn't sense his post as the way you took it. But i've been away from the board for awhile so if it's a history thing then apologies.
Yeah, I’m still a bit ticked at him about some static he gave me yesterday in a different thread. I may be overreacting a bit, but I have noticed him getting into it with others as well. We all want the Blazers to make moves to improve. We’re all operating with zero inside knowledge and we all have individual opinions about what should/can be done.
So let me get this straight? The Nets want to keep KD but turned down an offer of CP3 and Crowder? Not sure I believe that?
