If you're getting a driver's licence or opening a bank account, I would agree with you. If you're running for the presidency, it's quite another thing.

I'm amazed at how asking the President of the United States to provide a simple document is "lunacy". If George W. Bush were stonewalling like this, I'd be asking him to provide it as well. And something tells me many of the people pooh-poohing the notion for Obama would be on it like white-on-rice if it were Bush.

Well, you're certainly free to hold the opinion that it is not enough for you...but ultimately the legal question is what matters. If Obama has satisfied the legal requirements, all the carrying on from the birthers is really just noise. It didn't work for them in 2008 and I strongly doubt most people are becoming more interested over time.

I remember that's your position from here on out. You should only supply the minimum legally required. Got it.

Yeah, I think that's accurate. I'd have thought you being a small-government, less-government-intrusion type would also embrace that. Provide what you must legally, when dealing with government, and nothing more.

You would think wrong. I don't believe in no government; I believe in limited government. And I like to know as much as I can about the people we elect to run the government. The Fourth Estate had been trusted to gather that information, and they haven't shown they're interested in the job anymore.

That position doesn't imply "no government." Meeting legal standards necessitates a government.

I thought that we already established that Hawaii isn't a "real" state.

Barak Obama Candidate: We are going to create the most transparent and open government in U.S. history.

Barak Obama President: I already supplied the barest minimum legally required. All other official documents and historical documents are sealed, hidden, vaulted, erased, blocked, wiped out.

Oh, and all those folks complaining about this state of affairs, are "crazy".

Yes, he hasn't fulfilled promises of transparency. No question there. And he's failed to do that in far more important matters than his long-form birth certificate, to boot.

And yes, the people complaining about his long-form birth certificate are crazy. There are consequential things to complain about and they've chosen to focus on something silly. People complaining about his lack of transparency in matters of state and foreign policy I don't consider crazy at all.

    It's petty and a distraction.

You can call Obama out on a terrible economy, a never-ending war or the growing debt but instead of offering solutions to these problems people feel the need to frame the debate on Obama proving his place of birth.

It's all to get people to question Obama's legitimacy to the presidency.

But it's the issue most easily solved. There's no reason for him not to do it.

For those who complain that this is a distraction, I'll quote our current Commander-In-Chief and say, "I can focus on more than one thing at a time."

How do we really know that the Hawaii on the birth certificate is actually the Hawaii we all think it is?

Exactly. I'm not sure what this thread is supposed to be about. Everybody knows about the short-form COLB, which is not an actual record from a hospital. The long form BC has the hospital, doctor name, etc.

Obama's half-sister has the same Hawaii Certificate of Live Birth as does her brother; the difference is, his half-sister also has a long-form BC from Indonesia, where she was born. Hawaii gave her a COLB, with her birthplace, but there are records of her long-form BC from Indonesia. Her half-brother, born in Hawaii, can't produce his own long-form BC? At the very least, that seems worth questioning.

This thread only serves to raise more questions, rather than answer them.

What were Obomba's grades in college? Why did he leave Occidental and end up at Columbia? That's a strange leap, given the Ivy League's typical reaction to transfer students.

Why do we know Gore's, Bush's, Clinton's, and Kerry's grades, but not Barry's?

Why does Barry talk about student loans, yet there are no records of student loans?

    Anyone?

The funny thing is, the more I look into this stuff, the more questions arise. The NYT stuff below is true. It's worth noting that the NYT published this info while NY Sen. Clinton was the presumed Dem 2008 candidate.

I'm more interested in his college records than I am his BC. I also wonder why he never wrote about his trip to Pakistan in 1981.
