Great, but how does all this make me and my nephew part of the problem? I simply posed a question, then posted text from what a firefighter had witnessed. Innocent enough.
Did antifa set the fires in California and Washington and Idaho and Oregon? Those guys are busy little beavers aren’t they?! And for the libs to light forest on fires sure is a crazy thing for climate change believers to behave! What jerks!
This whole stick and stones thing just isn't true. Words are hugely impactful on people. Simply look at the impact Trump had on the nation by downplaying covid. Even with his admissions on tape, people still call it a hoax and stuff. That's from just words. ALL the data spoke otherwise, but people listened to him. I already alluded to it, but it's planting a seed. You share some incredibly questionable intel and what? You should see the shit my mom shows me. It would be irresponsible for me to spread that nonsense, just like it was irresponsible of you to spread that nonsense. It informs the way people think. Hell, look at your insistence because of what your niece or whoever said that Portland is a hellhole of antifa and warring factions. You believe that because you trust her but IT IS BULLSHIT. It is literally only a block. Read the Portland papers and they'll tell you. Ask people that live and work in the city...But no, your niece said. I know you get it.
good post and the idea that "just asking a question" is always innocent is laughable. Nobody buys that horseshit but the supremely gullible "I'm just asking a question" is propaganda 101. It's push-polling and as you say, planting toxic seeds in the garden of information
well, police and sheriff's departments have had to issue statements dispelling the QAnon and right-wing nutjob conspiracy theories about antifa setting fires. now, they are having to issue statement dispelling the theories about widespread looting in evacuated areas https://www.oregonlive.com/news/202...in-oregon-are-false-law-enforcement-says.html https://www.oregonlive.com/news/202...widespread-looting-amid-oregon-wildfires.html antifa as arsonists isn't completely unbelievable; but right wing fantasies are very real and immediate, and even more dangerous. As for 'looting', obviously there will be some burglaries and thefts, but the conspiracy shit will just inspire paranoia. It already has because there are reports that armed vigilantes are 'patrolling' and 'blockading' evacuated areas in Corbett and Mollala. I understand the intent, but not only is that illegal, it's just another situation of idiots with guns that could go wrong in a hurry
as if the fires themselves aren't enough: officials are saying that the fires will "inevitably" going to degrade water supplies https://www.opb.org/article/2020/09...ures-cause-algae-blooms-in-oregon-watersheds/ so now, it's probably advisable in certain areas to start stashing many gallons of water before algae blooms and other factors make water unsafe if that's not enough, look out for landslides this winter: https://www.opb.org/article/2020/09/10/wildfires-oregon-landslides-rain/ 2020: the curse that keeps on punching
I do "get" it. I suppose I just wasn't too receptive to @barfo's comments aimed at my nephew and me. It's why I wryly replied he was full of plankton. Oh, well, just barfo being barfo, I guess. I get that, too.

My kids that were evacuated a few days ago are using this experience to teach their kids something that touched me. They have gone and bought a all the camp chairs they could and pallets of water for the kids to hand out to those families that are camped in various parking lots. There has been a shortage of chairs and water. Just wanted to share...
The combined fire is bigger than the Portland metro area, from Hillsboro to Troutdale. That's fucking insane.
Clackamas County deputy placed on leave after video captures him blaming antifa for putting ‘lives at stake’ in wildfires A Clackamas County Sheriff’s deputy seen in a viral video making what the sheriff’s office is calling “inappropriate statements,” while on duty has been placed on administrative leave, the agency announced Saturday. The deputy’s remarks seemed to give credence to the idea that anti-fascists were causing havoc and possibly setting fires, unfounded rumors strenuously debunked by law enforcement. “As soon as I was made aware of this incident, I moved swiftly to place this deputy on leave while we investigate,” Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts said in the release. “The Sheriff’s Office mission is to provide calm and safety especially during unprecedented times such as these. I expect nothing less of our deputies, and apologize to all in our community.” The video, in which deputy Mark Nikolai is aware he was being filmed, has a timestamp indicating it was filmed on Thursday. “Antifa motherf-----s are out here causing hell,” the deputy says. “There’s a lot of lives at stake and there’s a lot of people’s property at stake because these guys got some vendetta.” The deputy is heard on the video telling the person filming that deputies “need the public’s help,” with regards to anti-fascists. Numerous reports and photos of people being stopped by armed vigilantes in Clackamas County have been circulating on social media. The Oregonian/OregonLive reported Thursday on conspiracy theories circulating about a coordinated arson campaign by anti-fascists. Law enforcement across the state, as well as the FBI, have debunked this myth. The deputy also tells the person filming he “wouldn’t be surprised" if deputies abandoned the town as fire approached and left only townspeople to ensure safety, saying fire personnel were being pulled from the front lines to regroup for a tactical advantage Thursday evening. The deputy, however, says the firefighters were pulled from the line because they are “waiting for this just to explode.” The deputy now placed on leave also instructs another deputy to go speak with a member of the public who was “mean mugging,” the deputy. The agency has declined multiple requests for comment on another viral video, showing what appears to be the same Clackamas County deputy coaching militia members. https://www.oregonlive.com/news/202...r&utm_medium=social&__twitter_impression=true
so then...this is another cop who should not have the job he has? A conspiracy nut with a badge, spreading nutty conspiracies? A right wing deputy who hates extremist antifa but loves extremist militia? Am I reading this right on what the story seems to be? no surprise then how it got posted here
You have to think... What cop would tell someone to go up in a fire zone and do his job for him? The very idea of placing people on both sides of this issue is repulsive. He needs to lose his badge.
