Today a Republican in the Florida senate has introduced a bill to 'Cancel' the Florida Democratic party. They are going full fascist at this point, holy shit! https://www.newsweek.com/florida-lawmaker-introduces-bill-cancel-states-democratic-party-1784526
very similar to what the GOP has been doing in DC for years now. ignoring subpoenas, lying under oath, spreading fake conspiracy theories, voting against every bit of civil rights legislation there is...it's no wonder the dems are the party of choice for educators...educators scare the hell out of republicans.
The worst thing about this is, not a single one of them will pay any kind of consequence for this kind of shit.
Come stay at our little beach cottage! You'll love it!! https://www.blueswell.com/vacation-rentals/202-sandyshore-dr-two-if-sea
As with anywhere, there are both good and bad things about Florida. Unfortunately at the moment the bad thing is fascism. Glad I moved out of there when I did.
Florida, Texas and Arizona get zero tourist dollars from me...choices..I'll spend my travel bucks where I can support the freedoms I've come to enjoy and not where oppression is practiced as law.I feel the same about Nicaragua.
Why the eff would I want to leave San Diego county to go to effin' Florida? Our weather is better, scenery is prettier and the people are nicer. I will give Florida a leg up on the existence and size of the bugs, humidity, access to meth and alligators. None of these are a draw...
It is amazing how the folks who complain the loudest about cancel culture are the first to use it to cancel others when it benefits them. Seriously what the heck man.
Went to Florida once and have no desire to return. As @andalusian said, I live in a place with better weather, better food, better theater, civil rights and Lucia!
As far back as I can remember, Florida was literally the last state I ever wanted to visit, with N. Dakota and Mississippi close behind. Having now visited all three of those states I can humbly say I was wrong about N. Dakota and dead wrong about Mississippi. I was 100% correct about Florida. All I can say about that particular state is that I've been there.
Florida seems fine. Limited experience visiting, but places like Tampa are supposed to be nice. Miami kinda sucks/ghetto vibes though. Lots of South Americans, so maybe they bring that with them there. My friend who worked there in the ER said Cubans are super entitled and annoying. People drive like assholes out there, just crazy shit.
Florida politics are obviously terrible, and I support not wanting to spend your money in a place that has opposing values. I also hate the state government. One thing to remember is in every red state, there are also regular people who don't agree with the state's zeitgeist du jour. There are literal liberal enclaves of people frightened of the cascade of fascism. I am one of those. Also, Florida is actually very pretty.
By the way, this is what happens when you click the article: State Senator Blaise Ingoglia, a Republican, introduced SB 1248, known as the "The Ultimate Cancel Act" that would require the Florida Division of Elections to "immediately cancel the filings" of any political party that has ever endorsed slavery in its official party platform. If passed, the bill would essentially ban the Democratic Party in Florida, a swing state that has drifted toward Republicans in recent years. Southern Democrats supported slavery during the Civil War while Republicans, led by President Abraham Lincoln, backed the abolition of slavery.
