Well essentially voting for a third party candidate in the current political system is a defacto vote for one of the main party's candidates because Gary Johnson won't get enough votes to win, just enough to screw over one of the other candidates, and in fact possibly electing the candidate you like the least. It sucks that it works that way. I welcome a political system that has more the two parties. It's like Hatfield vs McCoy every four years. A third party should be allowed into the main stream, I.e. the primaries, debates, etc. Our political system is very skewed, and goes against the democratic nature of our country. Though our country isn't really a Democracy is it, but rather a Republic.
I actually agree even though I will likely vote for Hillary. I don't like how many in both mainstream parties say it's a throwaway vote if you don't vote D or R. If you think of it that way, then really it's a throwaway vote if you vote for anyone other than the winner. So, if Hillary continues to look like she will win, then voting for Trump would be just as much a "throw-away" vote as voting for Stein, Johnson or writing in Bernie or Big bird. I just think it's a grey area, voting for an eventual loser can be a protest vote, but it can also be a needed building block if your ideals are ever to take hold. I'm not a big fan of Hillary but I do agree with much of her stances, and the SCJ nomination mean a lot to me. So, I will vote for Hillary because I want her to win over the rest of the candidates, not to out of fear that someone else will win.
A bleeding heart has nothing to do with the logic. It cost about 250K (at that time) to bring a new programmer/analyst or engineer to their years of productive. Rehab cost about 20K plus the burden cost of an employee. The math says recovery of an employee is prudent if possible. I probably can't use yours, so you take care of your business as you see fit, but is seems as if you have not thought it through.
Oh and comparing the dangers of alcohol and pot isn't a fair comparison. Sure, drunks leave bars drunk and drive every night. There aren't 100s of businesses that attract people to buy pot and smoke it at a place like a bar. Not yet.
I've never had a pothead pick a fistfight with me. How many people get high and kick the shit out of their spouse or kids? My nephew's mom just showed up to his swimming meet fall-down drunk on Saturday afternoon and had to be carted off. So "not debatable?" OK, if you insist.
I agree with you on this point. The dangers of smoking pot should not be compared to alcohol. While the dangers are not exactly the same, a closer comparison would be to cigarettes/tobacco smoking. Smoking anything is not great for you; at the very least, you're inhaling some amount of carbon monoxide, dioxide, and particulates into your lungs. One study found Ammonia levels were up to 20 times higher in marijuana smoke than in tobacco smoke. And levels of hydrogen cyanide and nitrogen-related chemicals were three to five times higher in marijuana smoke than in tobacco smoke. However, the amount of fertilizer used to grow the plants will affect these results.
It's not like it has to be one or the other, how bout people just use a little moderation. When I worked at OHSU, I knew so many Doctors and scientists, administrators, lawyers, electricians and techs like myself who would smoke pot occasionally or have a couple drinks at a party. All seemed to have fun during those evenings but the next day, they did their work well. That's most people. If you smoke pot 4 times a day, or drink a fifth of bourbon at a time, you are going to likely have that negatively impact your life. Most people know better.

For adults convicted of a violent crime while under the influence of drugs, over 70% of them are under the influence of marijuana. The % of violent crimes committed while under the influence of marijuana as increase significantly over the last 20 years.
People who drink water commit crimes, people who smoke tobacco...people who eat sugar and ride bicycles....there's no upward trend in violent pot heads...there's an upward trend in violent people...people either control their behavior or not...a lot of alcoholics are also potheads...lot of tweakers are pot heads..lot of idiots are users of everything from toilet paper to gasoline
