come on guys...Magic had Kareem and the whole showtime Lakers...Stockton had Malone...they're practically running a well-oiled machine composed of Hall of Famers (and future ones)...they had an easier time...not to take any credit from them...they are great point guards..but you cannot deny the fact that Kidd is running a bunch of kids who just want to show-off...
I would like to see how RJ's and KM's stats would look like without Kid..let alone how sad the record would look.
that's exactly my point dee and king james...IMHO, the point guard's greatest challenge is to make the whole team look good...Kidd did a great job of running a team with these type of players...ya'll know how a team of showboats would look like without a great PG...you're right...they won't win...everyone will go his own way to try and outdo one another...Kidd became the soul of the Nets...and that made him great IMHO...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting How_High78:</div><div class="quote_post">How does this relate to MJ?</div> A mod should split this thread into 2 parts..I would if I had the power.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting J-MAC:</div><div class="quote_post">Stockton in his Prime was Way better than Kidd. It may not show that stat wise but i think he was a better defender and a better passer. but I do think Kidd sees the Floor better. Jason Kidd was better than Stockton last year no matter how many mormons(sp?) think Differently</div> The greatest point ever was and still is Earvin Magic Johnson......followed by Oscar Isaiah, Stockton, and maybe Jason
Stockton is the best PG ever his vision to see the court was amazing thats why he holds the record for most dimes!!!
This is a tough choice. Stockton was one of the best to ever play the game. I am a huge Jason fan however I would rather have Stockton in his prime. You will probably never hear me call a player smarter than Jason Kidd but I think Stockton was the smarter player. He is essentially the G.O.A.T of the PG position. I think he will be the player that all PGs will be judged against. Both are great players, and I would love to have either on my team however I think that Stockton gets the edge.
J-Kidd plays TOUGH...not ROUGH...Stockton plays ROUGH...and TOUGH... Jason Kidd can run any team...put him in the present day Lakers and im sure he can keep those hall of famers in check...he inspires his teammates...just knowing that he's on the same squad will make every player confident...because they know that they're being led by the best...Stockton's greatest weapon (and the major source of his dimes) is the pick and roll...Kidd is more versatile...you can put him on a running team like the Nets...or you can put him in a half court set team like the Spurs...he will deliver...Stockton without Malone? :thumbsdow I bet...i mean..he will score points...but he wouldn't get that much assists...
I think some of you are jumping the gun with Kidd. I know he's got his Eastern Conference team to the finals in back to back years and he's all NBA defense etc. But where is the competition at PG. Payton isn't the same, Marbury is improving but he's not at that level yet. Arenas, Parker, nash, none of them are even close to his level. In the NBA righht now there is a lack of good fundamental PG's. When the great PG's p[layed they always had some competition to compare themselves to. I think Jason Kidd is a great PG, but he's not at the level of the other greats of all time because he looks better than he actually is because the other PG's playing are that bad right now.
I think people forget the lack of impact Kidd had in the western conference...making the finals back to back years is impressive but he is playing in the east now...If he did that in a tough conference then he would deserve even more props.....Players such as Stockton and Magic did take their teams far...Stockton missed out on two rings because of MJ...Magic got them..Kidd didn't and likely never will.Kidd is a very good point guard no doubt..but best ever? NOPE
of course we didn't see all these players play, nor do we know how they would be against todays prime players but lets look at some of the best PGs of all-time: John Stockton Isah Thomas Magic Johnson Bob Cousey Oscar Robertson Calvin Murphy was only 5-9 and he was a hell of a player. there a lot more of course, but those were known to be the best. Now, for my greatest PG of all time it would have to be none other than John Stockton. IMO, Kidd wouldn't ever be as good as Stockton, Stockton doesn't turn the ball over as much, had a better FG%, better passer, and a better leader.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting InNETSweTrust:</div><div class="quote_post">Kidd is more versatile...you can put him on a running team like the Nets...or you can put him in a half court set team like the Spurs...he will deliver...</div> Kidd in the halfcourt? Are you forgetting that on every team he has been on they were never a halfcourt team? All his teams are run and gun. Did you also notice what people say is the weakness of the teams he's been on? That's right, running the half court set. Teams with Jason Kidd have never been that good in running half court sets. If anything Stockton is more versatile. He can run the run and gun style and he can set up in the half court.
