* Gobert was picked in the 1st round....by Denver, not by Utah. It was widely reported Denver was shopping that pick * Utah traded cash and a 2nd round pick, Erick Green, for Gobert * Erick Green was the 46th pick in the 2nd round * Portland had the 39th pick, selecting Jeff Withey...which they used as part of the trade for Robin Lopez * Portland had the 4oth pick, selecting Grant Jerret....which they sold to OKC for cash * Portland had the 45th pick, selecting Marko Todorovic....which became 1 of the four 2nds they used on Thomas Robinson so yes, I was accurate when I said the Blazers didn't think Gobert was worth a 2nd round pick. They had three 2nds, all higher than the 2nd used to land Gobert. nope...read above. Batum was lobbying hard for Portland to make the inexpensive move and draft Gobert. But Olshey has never had a good eye for big men
About Olshey not having good eye for big men is very true. All of his starting center in Portland he had to trade for them.
Smith sucked here. Swanigan sucked here. Mario sucked everywhere Tolliver was already horrible everywhere Mo won rings.... Crabbe wasn't great. Meyers may be the worst player we had here since ha. Trob was never good here. What exactly was your point here? None of the players you mentioned were good here. Unless I'm tired af and missed the point, which is entirely possible.
that does not mean that. it takes at least two parties to make a deal. you’re making the assumption that the opportunity was available to us. i’m not going to pretend that we had the opportunity. we don’t know.
LOL...it was available to Utah at a lower price...why wouldn't it be available to Portland? as I said. it was widely known that Denver was shopping that pick. IIRC, they didn't want the financial obligation of a 1st round pick and preferred the less expensive 2nd round pick, with shorter guarantees they even traded within the division, so there would have been nothing excluding Portland from the auction. Portland had higher 2nds than the 46th pick. They simply sold the 40th pick for cash, and that would have been a better trade chip than the 46th pick which was all it took Utah to land Gobert clearly, Olshey didn't value Gobert as worth a 2nd round pick. Now, he had Meyers already and was obviously still overrating Meyers significantly at the time ("he could be an all-star"). And it's possible that he knew he was going to cut a deal for Robin Lopez. Still, he let an opportunity to draft a two-time DPOY pass in favor of below average C's. I'm noticing your tune is a little different now. Instead of you and illimatic saying I was "making things up" (lying) or posting "fake news" (kind of the same as lying), you've retreated to the old "we can't know for sure" position. If that was the standard for discussion, about 95% of the posts in this forum would be deleted.
my stance hasn’t really changed. By your logic, basically every player in the league has “gotten away”.
The only thing that Olshey is good at, 2nd-round picks...is the one thing he often washes down the sink. Everything else, he saves like a squirrel with a nut in his cheeks, never throwing away his own draftees or coaches.
c'mon man...that's just plain loopy my "stance" was specifically about Gobert and the circumstances at the time, for Denver, for Utah, and for Portland can you at least admit that when you went after me for "fake news" you didn't know what I was basing my assertion on?
Gobert was a risk. When Summer League started, no one knew whether he'd make the NBA, so Batum hung around to give his fellow Frenchman advice. But Gobert didn't need it. During Summer League, he looked like he had a chance. So Batum backed off. Olshey cares only about shooting range, so he wouldn't have drafted Gobert. Quin Snyder, despite being a Republican financial contributor, is one of the best coaches in the NBA. Under Stotts, Gobert would have been another skinny Harry Giles.
yeah,,I think Chief made the list because for Orlando he's been like Zach Collins for us....couldn't stay on the court...that's sort of fizzling Mo Harkless also doesn't play much. So post Blazer career...not stellar outings that make us really miss them. In many ways Lamarcus as fizzled too compared to how he performed in Portland
