Gotta be honest..... I'm really not super excited about hanging our hopes on another big man. We don't exactly have a good track record with them.
Not a big man. The Lakers and Sixers were sunk this year because of injuries to their bigs. We have been hampered by constant injuries to Nurk. What would happen to Denver if Jokic got hurt? They're super injury prone, and honestly they're a relic of the past. The Warriors dominated without a true big man.
Those teams always find ring chasers on the cheap. Trying to get a $20M player is a little different, so a S&T would still need to be done. Then there is the Knicks who could just outbid others for Norm.
I may be the odd one out but I don't think Stotts will be fired. I just don't see it happening. I also don't see CJ leaving. Certainly NO is going nowhere. Just don't see it given Neil's history. I Think he is committed to Dame, CJ and Ant. IMHO, Dame is more likely to leave than those two things after reading his instagram post. Dame knows that this team cannot make the necessary roster changes required to win a ring. Why? Because it would be an untested roster on a team that cannot land FAs. He could go to a team and be that piece that solidifies it into becoming a true contender. All of this is my pessimistic view of the organization. Happy to see something else happen...
We received a midseason report that the owner was NOT HAPPY about our 29th ranked defense. Dame was candid that we are not championship contenders, suggesting strongly that changes need to be made. Stotts is certainly gone. The only question is whether Olshey will be joining him.
Exactly, as I said in one of these zillion threads, Chris McGowan will be telling the owner just that: if coach stays, fans won't. Jimmy Chitwood isn't walking through that door to save Stotts.
I just can't take another year of this. If we had actually fired the fucker a couple months ago, maybe we would have won against Denver, but we'll never know because the outcome that did happen was the most predictable outcome in the history of predictable outcomes.
Same. I could accept keeping CJ (don't want to) but not stotts. But on the plus side, if they're moving to Roots or some other channel I don't get, I'm not paying more to watch them under perform. Just imagine tho, they would already be in the conference finals if their starting PF was there!
The only way KAT ends up in Portland is if he's fed up with losing in Minnesota and forces his way to the Blazers. Otherwise, the Wolves have no real incentive to move him for the pieces we have to offer. But, as we've seen in the current landscape of the NBA, players are navigating their own path. KAT and Dame would be a nice start and surely better than what we have at the moment.
Ownership literally told him he needs to improve the defense AND win a playoff series. There is 0% chance he is back. Zero.
Which is harder to replace? A run of the mill coach or the best player to ever play for the Blazers, and arguably one of the best players in the league?
If we get KAT and only give up CJ and Nurk and then we turn around and re-sign Norm... our team next season will be worlds better than this season. Especially if we have a coach that is holding players accountable and cares about defense.
At some point I'd like to hear an update on Collins. If the update is positive, I'd like to see video.
