The incredible shrinking back court

I don't disagree. Just saying there is really no need for any talk of adding another guard

 

Maybe we have below average SG guards, but would ours abuse McCollum? Would Wes post him up down low? Blow by him? I would guess no.

Additionally beyond our guards I think Batum's poor defense leads to major problems with our team. Batum’s weakness is overlooked because of his open court highlight reel blocks but if you study his man to man defense and advanced stats he is in the bottom of the league at his position. That puts a ton of pressure on teammates such as Wesley or the bigs and eventually leads to failures where the opposition gets high percentage shots. With his recent injuries I don’t think Batum has trade value so we should probably just hang on to him but I suppose we could also keep an open mind to acquiring a defensive wing for stretches to pair with Wesley.

 

He plays to funnel guys into a center, but we don't have a center who can handle that assignment.

 

I'm seriously hoping that Gary Payton really helped Lillard and his defense. You can get away with two smaller guards if you have the instincts to put a lot of pressure on the other team.

With quickness; I expect a lot of trapping. It is harder with Matthews because he just doesn't have that lateral quickness to trap; then immediately get back to his man. With cj and Lillard; they do.

I definitely think we need a rim protector. If we don't take a chance on Bynum; I hope Portland uses Leonard and Matthews to obtain a good rim protector.

I actually see Portland having a good shot at getting brook Lopez, with using Matthews, Leonard and sign and trade of hickson.

A starting line-up of d-will, Matthews, pierce, hickson and Garnett looks promising. I think the veterans can really help to develop Leonard to speed up his readiness.

If we can land Lopez; we have a legit center that can make us a contender in the west.

 

Mags, that's crazy. No way is that even somewhat close to enough to get Brook Lopez.
