It was supply and demand that got Nixon repairing our relationship with China.....and it was good for both countries....what we deal with now is copywrite infringement and their cheap labor force...and as I said...Americans are spoiled by consumer goods nobody would make if there wasn't some demand...also show me americans making shoes that are affordable and guitars that a young person can afford to buy to use for work......we price gouged our own consumer goods and priced ourselves out of the competition in many fields....I think global trade is healthy but greedy business practices are not but I don't look to political leaders to change the landscape....I look to business folks to hold themselves accountable.....the American farmer lost it's biggest customer for farm products with this trade war so Trump gave them an 18 billion dollar bailout for the loss of income.....the farmers feed the world, not just America. In the 60s poor students and workers needed an affordable car....Germany gave them the VW bug....it filled that need.
What you literally seem to be saying is, you don't care that we shipped American jobs to... America's enemy, and now Chinese citizen's are working jobs that American citizens used to do. So, it is fine that we brought low wage jobs to America, and now Americans are becoming poorer?
I'm saying we have trade partners....and I'm saying Americans don't line up for low paying labor jobs here at home....it's the law of supply and demand and people all over the world are doing low paying jobs that end up making shit that's being sold here in the States.......I've lived overseas and believe me....American goods are way overpriced everywhere....we have not been competitive in manufacturing since the 1950s and that Clinton computer boom at first. The key phrase in your post is jobs Americans used to do.....like farming....factory work.....making shoes...Taiwan leads the world in computer chips and computer displays...everybody buys from Taiwan....not because we ship jobs there but because they are very good at doing what they do....again ....supply and demand. ...America doesn't need "enemies" overseas....we have them right here at home....and Chinese citizens don't make up their labor force either...Phillipinos and Malaysians, etc....are their versions of what we called cheap Mexican labor...this is not exclusive to America and I think maybe nationalism is more important to you than international relations or trade. Nationalism is a destraction from Capitalistic classism in my view.greed...our wealthiest business people have money in banks all over the globe.....and currency in many forms. it's not us against China...China doesn't want us as an enemy either...that was fueled by a fake nationalistic bluster propped up by Trump in his first campaign.....we have issues with them but it's worse because of our sabre rattling from right here in the States....hopefully all that will calm down moving forward. I was born in America with low paying wages....we didn't import low paying jobs...our business people did that for us right at home..now with rampant price gouging the dollars aren't stretching....that's our own damned fault ...China has human rights issues ....guess what...we do too. Today I went to town and they are hiring everywhere.....if you want a job you can have one Also if you want to start a business here and pay good wages with benefits....that's great...people should go out and do just that .Countries overseas create their own companies independant of American presidents or policies.....Japan and Germany are perfect examples of modernized industries that thrived after utter poverty and destruction of WWII...I'm just going to agree to disagree with the international trade war and it's implications for now....
This all seems like an excuse to say that it is fine that we make Americans poor. The problem is, billionaires and corporations are addicted to cheap slave labor, and our government is fine throwing American workers under the bus to serve their interests over the interests of Americans. Corporations are taking home record profits... while America falls apart. If you are fine with that, that is your call.
I spent career with a major Mid West Mfg thats been around for nearly 120 years. We had plants and foundries in Milwaukee metro that back in the mid 80's employed nearly 10K people. All union workers that multi generation families work at over the years. Over time we moved numerous plants to Souther States close to large customers and lower cost of doing business as the Unions made it tough to keep the work force in Wisconsin. At that time also our manufacturing process went to focus factories and JIT as Japan had already done. The Japanese were producing high end products at, more than competitive pricing as the exchange favored them for years. Then they didn't have that advantage so much and they started moving MFG from mother Japan to the States in order to compete in our markets. Then the Chinese were aggressive in copying American products and competing in price point segments. From an International standpoint we have several joint venture plants in China primarily for addressing Asian markets, needed a presence there to spring board into Asian markets. American Mfg's were not able to own 100% of factories or distribution centers had to be a joint venture with a Chinese company of which they leveraged the heck out of. Chinese are allowed to own 100% of operations, in the USA. The Chinese government like Japan, subsidizes their industries and calls most of the shots on commerce. American Manufactures can now compete in many markets as long as they watch the cost of goods made, sold, and have superb service to back their products.
The Chinese govt makes owning a factory there a risky proposition because they can basically steal your business from under you and send you home...they just did this with some overseas companies....if you get politically on their bad side, they'll blackball you there. On the other hand a designer I knew in N California designed a unique computer stand that he took to Apple and they said no....then shortly after came out with his design slightly altered to look different but based on his idea....business can be cutthroat
After unprecedented layoffs and unemployment the year before because of lockdowns and demolition of small businesses. Context helps sometimes. What does it tell you when even after the “highest job growth in 40 years” the employment rate is still lower than two years ago? Hmmm there must have been a drop somewhere…
nah...there's a game on...death stats can't compete....but covid deaths would have to be included ....many many took retirement early ...many restaurant owners and pub owners, movie theater businesses cashed out and cut their losses....lots of things happened the last two years to make stats sway like earthquakes.
200,000 extra people retired in 2020? Got some stats to back that up? Sounds like you’re grasping for anything you can here. Why did the business owners decide to cut their losses? Because business was doing so well? Yea, “lots of things happened”, one of which being a massive upward wealth transfer almost singlehandedly achieved by Democrat lawmakers by crushing small businesses.
Well, that surely didn't happen at the federal level, since there was a Republican senate and President to prevent it in 2020. And it surely didn't happen at the state level in any of the red states, either. So... I guess only blue states/cities lost small businesses? Is that your position? I guess you'd have data to back that up? barfo
Where oh where does he even hint that he doesn't care the American workers are getting a raw deal? Show me that or retract it.
Unemployment has been significantly higher in blue states than red states since covid, and it’s a direct result of those states’ covid policies. Everything else you mentioned is just irrelevant technicalities to try and steer the discussion off course in typical pirate fashion.
When your answer to everything is “Trump” there is undoubtedly some fantasizing going on. I’m surprised Pfizer hasn’t tried to package and sell these fantasies as dick pills yet, given the hard-on it’s still giving boomers this far down the road.
You suggesting I was poking fun at someone’s ailments is really the only low blow here. My comment was far from a personal attack and you are twisting it around to turn it into one. I don’t know Lanny or his history, my remarks are based solely on people’s comments. You are making it into something it’s not and perpetrating me as a person who intentionally picks on people because of their ailments. You are the only one bringing up people’s personal lives right now as a means of argument, let’s be absolutely clear about that.
The snark mirror is a bitch when it's turned around. Lanny has talked extensively about his war injury and medical issues....probably not in the covid or Joe Biden threads....I assume you read outside those two threads...probably shouldn't.
