Re: If Republican's ever want a chance at the Presidency....

There's modernizing, and then there's being realistic. The Republicans might be stuck in an archaic form of thinking, but the Dems are spending money like we're not going further and further into debt. It's like you guys don't understand that we cannot afford to support every living soul living in this country (legally and illegally).

Learn to live within your means for fucks sake. If you can't balance your budget, IT MEANS YOU'RE SPENDING TOO MUCH!

I get it, you guys want to live in a perfect world where everyone has jobs, and nobody goes hungry, and healthcare is free, and we no longer hurt the environment. That world doesn't exist. It just doesn't. Not right now. We can work towards it slowly, but most of the changes that you guys make are all window dressing. They don't actually do anything.

Driving a Prius? Doesn't do shit other than save you gas money, but you'd think some of these people were single handedly saving the world. I hear about sustainability all day, every day. We do not live in a sustainable city. We have spent billions on MAX and street cars and bike lanes and all this shit to make our city supposedly greener.... and yet we still have around 84% of the people in this city driving cars.

It drives me nuts because I think the Dems have their hearts in the right place, and that's important, but their execution is flawed. It's not realistic.

President Obama proved that "free shit for everyone" is the way to win an election. Eventually, some one will have to pay, but the American people are too stupid to notice or worse, too lazy to care.

Ever heard of Fannie & Freddie?

On the other stuff, I think you think every liberal takes things to extremes and wants handouts. Its not flawed, I just saw two states pass the legal use of recreational marijuana.

I'll be fine. When UPS has layoffs due to a shiity economy, good luck finding another job with your level of education and skills.

6 years in. There's no way I'm going to ever be layed off. Wishful thinking.

Hate to say it, but my work is about to explode in the next two years once smaller companies start selling to us.

An unintended consequence of my own vote, but one that will help me prosper, and be able to weed out free-loaders as we take on more companies.

I didn't say anything about handouts. I said that the Dems are spending money that doesn't exist, and they're living in a dreamworld. There has to be a happy medium where we are becoming more sustainable, yet not wasting money on projects that don't actually make us more sustainable.

Wow. Unions are nice, I guess.

Until they are broken, of course.

Re: If Republican's ever want a chance at the Presidency....

I actually really respect this opinion and in some ways agree with it. I would like a more fiscally responsible Democratic Party. However, I also see the need for spending money in down economic times. Somewhere between where the left of the party stands and where you stand.

However, I do want to say that if gay rights, environmentalism, and other causes are noble and are aspired to eventually, then we should fight for them today. There will be no time to make Change if we are only looking to affect that change in the future.

A Prius makes no difference, but higher cafe standards, cash for clunkers, and investing in newer technologies like clean coal or wind will make a difference. And although buying a Prius on its own does not make a difference, it does show companies that we are interested in energy savings. Perhaps the Prius of 2020 will make a true difference.
