Cameron Bairstow, No. 20 New Mexico hold off Boise State

New Mexico expected a tough matchup from Boise State in the Mountain West Conference tournament semifinals, and the Lobos got it.

Cameron Bairstow's 10-foot baseline jumper with 42.2 seconds left pushed No. 20 New Mexico's lead to seven, while his two free throws with 3.8 seconds left sealed the 70-67 victory over the Broncos on Friday night.

No. 20 New Mexico upsets No. 8 San Diego State for MWC title

New Mexico won the Mountain West Conference tournament the past two seasons, and the Lobos weren't prepared to let the title go.

Trailing by one with a little more than a minute left, Cameron Bairstow scored five of the Lobos' last eight points to help 20th-ranked New Mexico win its third consecutive tournament title, with a 64-58 victory over No. 8 San Diego State in Saturday's championship game.

Xavier Thames' 30 lead San Diego State past NDSU, into Sweet 16

Xavier Thames sent San Diego State home. As in back to the sunshine of California and a spot in the Sweet 16 for the second time in school history

Whether he was dropping 3s, finessing floaters in the lane or leading the Aztecs' suffocating defense, Thames would not let North Dakota State become this year's version of Florida Gulf Coast.

Thames scored 30 points, and fourth-seeded San Diego State ended the run of No. 12 seed North Dakota State 63-44 on Saturday.

Fresno State wins to tie up CBI finals against Siena

    - If Siena thought it had a home-court advantage, it never materialized against Fresno State.

After blowing a 12-point second-half lead Monday night and losing to the upstart Saints in the opener of the College Basketball Invitational finals, the Bulldogs evened the best-of-three series with a convincing 89-75 victory Wednesday night.

    SaQwan Edwards held without bail

New Mexico cornerback SaQwan Edwards is being held without bond after surrendering to authorities in a rape case that previously led to the arrest of teammate Crusoe Gongbay.

Edwards was booked late Tuesday into an Albuquerque jail on suspicion of criminal sexual penetration.

Coach Bob Davie says the 21-year-old redshirt junior from Houston has been suspended from the team according to policy.

JJ O'Brien's double-double leads San Diego State over Utah

Each side struggled to score. All day long.

No. 16 San Diego State used some hard-nosed play to get the win.

JJ O'Brien had a strong second half and finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds, helping the Aztecs to a 53-49 victory against No. 25 Utah in a Tuesday matinee between cold-shooting teams that had a crazy final 47 seconds.

Polee leads cold No. 16 Aztecs to 51-27 win

The only thing Steve Fisher could do after this one was state the obvious.

"We were good defensively and we were bad offensively," Fisher said after the No. 16 Aztecs survived another awful shooting performance to win 51-27 Thursday night against Cal State Bakersfield, which missed its first 20 shots.

No. 15 San Diego State outlasts BYU in 2OT at Maui Invitational

San Diego State senior Aqeel Quinn launched a potential tying 3-pointer, only to have the shot come back at him.

Instead of panicking, he grabbed the blocked shot, calmly gathered himself and dropped in the 3-pointer he intended to make the first time.

Pretty resilient, just like his team.

Quinn scored 22 points and hit a big 3-pointer in each overtime, helping No. 15 San Diego State outlast BYU 92-87 in the first round of the Maui Invitational on Monday night.

No. 15 San Diego St routs Pitt 74-57 in Maui

San Diego State fought through a tight game and won in a runaway to open the Maui Invitational.

Two victories in paradise earned the 15th-ranked Aztecs a shot at a familiar foe: No. 3 Arizona.

Trey Kell scored 15 points and No. 15 San Diego State shot its way into the Maui Invitational championship game, romping over Pittsburgh 74-57 Tuesday night.

    Lobos' Neal doesn't need surgery

New Mexico sophomore guard Cullen Neal's severe ankle sprain, suffered last week in Puerto Rico, will not require surgery, the school said Wednesday.

The timetable for Neal's return is three to five weeks.

He was injured during the Lobos' Puerto Rico Tip-Off first-round loss to Boston College. After scoring 26 and 23 points in New Mexico's first two games, Neal played 23 minutes against the Eagles and scored just two points prior to the injury.

Polee, O'Brien lead No. 13 SDSU over USD, 57-48

The No. 13 San Diego State Aztecs offered no apologies for an ugly win, just a reasonable explanation.

Dwayne Polee II scored 14 points and JJ O'Brien had 13 for the Aztecs, who beat San Diego 57-48 Thursday night for their ninth straight victory in the city rivalry.

Polee, O'Brien key No. 18 SDSU's comeback win

When Mike Caffey hit a 3-pointer to give Long Beach State an eight-point lead with 8 1/2 minutes left, his teammates leaped off the bench in joy and normally raucous Viejas Arena fell quiet.

The momentum changed just like that, though, as the 49ers got a dose of what San Diego State coach Steve Fisher called "controlled desperation."

Dwayne Polee II hit a tying 3-pointer and JJ O'Brien made a go-ahead putback as the No. 18 Aztecs rallied with a 19-10 closing run to beat the inspired 49ers 60-59 Wednesday night.

Shepard leads No. 19 SDSU over Ball St, 70-57

For the most part, Steve Fisher liked how his No. 19 San Diego State Aztecs bounced back from a nine-point road overtime loss to Cincinnati.

Winston Shepard scored 15 points and JJ O'Brien had 13 to lead San Diego State to a 70-57 victory over Ball State on Saturday night.

The Aztecs (8-3) were playing for the first time since losing 71-62 in overtime at Cincinnati on Wednesday night in which they had 11 turnovers in the first half.
