<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (gentile @ Apr 5 2007, 10:57 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>-You can have an opinion. But it's too bad you don't seem to relish challenging your own narrow view of how black people feel in regard to this word. Do you and your friends talk about this often? I bet you avoid it like hot coals. That's why I'm surprised you don't value my input. But of course, you already know, because you have black friends. You've become one with their inner Negro secrets. You know what offends them. It's funny. You don't care about a black person's opinion, or the fact that he talks to black people about this issue regularly. But I've decided not to be offended. In your mind, I probably shouldn't even exist, or I'm lying. Too funny.[...]-As far as change of the word, you said that you recognize the word doesn't have any meaning. Surely you didn't mean to imply the word never had any meaning. That's a tacit admission that the word has evolved or changed. If I'm wrong or was assuming too much, let me know.</div>Hahahaha wow. MY OWN NARROW OPINION. Forgive me for considering every black person in the world. That is too narrow for you. Jesus Christ, you are a terrible troll. You need to work on that whole going off on a stupid tangent thing. Also, try using big words when you actually need them, not just so that you can act like you're smart.I didn't say that the word's meaning changed. You said that. I said that it doesn't have any effect on me. For some people, it does have meaning (you made the claim that it doesn't on any black people now, which is obviously false). Different people do have different views on it, though. I think it would be a good thing if all black people simply ignored use of the word, but that is just not the case. Please show me one specific example where I have made a straw man fallacy. You haven't ever given me an example of anything when I have asked you to, so I can only think that you are a troll.Edit: The most beautiful part about your argument is that it can't be disproven. Even if a black guy shoots a white guy because he was called a nigger, you can still make the argument that it was for some other reason or that he was just mad because he was supposed to feel mad. I think that the argument is fairly irrelevant since I'm talking about the effects of the word and not just how it is taught in society.
Straw man: Basically your whole argument is, "I am black, and the word doesn't matter to us." Straw man 2: And you do say that you only speak for you and your homies, but everytime you post you use some term like "black community." Once again, mostly I say what I say from experience, and contact. Straw man 3: Ah, so you're going to play the, "You're not black; you don't get it" card. How trite. Another of your own inventions. You criticize me for not reading well, but if you believe I even implied this, you're not a very good listener. If I didn't think you couldn't get where I was coming from, I would have ignored you or said it straight out.Strraw man 4: I mean really, you are talking for the entire black culture and saying that you don't care about it. Not one of you. At all. It's all fake. That's a pretty bold statement with pretty flimsy points to back it up. I'm pretty sure it's not white people that care. I specifically spoke about those photo op mini-marches that had no sustainable organization or energy, after racist college themed parties and Michael Richard's rant. And chill with the ad hominem attacks, too. You ain't gotta me names or tell me you don't give a sh*t about what I am to express your point. You're obviously a bright dude that has a good command of our language. I been respecting you. How are you calling me a troll when I haven't attacked you or called you names or disrespected you?

You pretend you have my sh=t locked up in bite size chunks, then you routinely distort your restatement. Then you attack said distortion before you choke. Straw man. Easy to spot. Chew your food. You a believer of "scholarly" television? That's how you know what goes on? You, who "use the word liberally," yet knows "better than to say it to his black friends." They could get offended. I hear ya'. You gotta keep yer friends.

To me the Michael Richards incident was on the news and everywhere, not because people were so offended..but because it was more of shock television. How often do we see famous white people doing this? Whenever we do it gets all blown up because it's not an everyday occurrence.IMO the guy was an idiot for saying it. Not because I think the black community was emotionally hurt by it. Mostly because his career is pretty much dead now, and he will always be known as the guy who went off on a black couple for using that language, instead of being a part of one of the longest running shows of all time. It was a dumb thing to say because if he had used his head, he'd know what the media was gonna make of that.I would have to agree with Gentile that the word is losing a bit of steam for most people. Maybe it's because the people who have lived through that word being placed with violent behavior are getting older, or dying off? And maybe the other ones are getting smarter?I think using that word, and being a racist should be put into 2 different categories. I can call Rosie O'Donnell a bi*ch..and that doesn't mean I'm sexist or hate women. I dunno, that's just how I see it.I also agree that the focus should be on other things, instead of some suckin word.

I've learned a lot from Gentile honestly. He's got a unique view on things that I appreciate. He may be crazy on a few topics, but he'll give it all explaining why he thinks that way.
