Yeah seriously lol. He indirectly implies that Nelson will do better than Monty. I vote custodian for governor of Oakland

So from what you're saying the Warriors are better off with Monty? I still want to know who'd you rather have. Or are you saying theres no difference.</div>

You're putting words in my mouth, AF. See above. I've always said, it didn't matter to me who the coach was because it's a player's and Gm's league. Even a guy like Jeff Bzdelik gming the Nuggets can win once he got a blue chip player out of college that was ready to play instantly and Kiki Wandeweigh actually did something besides sit on his hands like Mullin did since acquiring a star in Baron Davis. GMs and players hold so much power it's ridiculous. It's a high position where the coach can't even recruit his own players, the GM picks the players for the coach, and the GM and players' agents work out the salaries which determine if we're stuck with them or not. We're talking a sport where talent and teamwork have to go hand in hand, but bad luck, poor vision, and constraining team budget can ruin all that. We don't even have a balance of team chemistry, talent or financial things yet. Yeah, we can improve, but we're handicapped because of Mullin's nutty moves that landed us in the red. If we look at the most successful franchises, we're doing the exact opposite of almost everything at every level. I'm not optimistic at all things can change so suddenly. It's a start though if Nelson can help Mullin be a better GM and help us out with our "wannabe running" team.

I asked the question before your post on the other page, I was just not clear on what your intial stance was in your early posts. I just wanted to clarify. Now I just find it intriguing that it doesn't matter to you if either Monty or Nelson coached the Warriors.

Not for the long term it doesn't matter and not based on this current roster either. I just don't think this lineup is good enough so I don't really care about which coach we get. If we're a bad team that suddenly makes the playoffs for one year (8th seed) it's just another team like the Sonics. If they fail to repeat, it's like, who cares... If we still miss the playoffs, we're probably still picking in the #8 to #11 draft pick range. I would feel safer if we had a trio like Nash/Finley/Dirk or Tim/Mitch/Chris. We don't have that foundation yet. If rookies are ready to play, maybe Nelson can develop them, but we've got more projects than prospect type rookies. We need prospects and guys who can flat out play right now.

For big men we need somebody because we don't have a perimeter attack quite like any of our previous teams... Maybe Diogu will be a lite version of Webber and we can settle for Baron/Jrich being the Tim/Richmond. If those three can score, the other two just have to pass, play defense, and make open shots. Hopefully, bench play will be better. I'm not counting on coaching change to instantly improve this team's mental weaknesses or their ability to make smart decisions with the ball. That is up to the players.

The Warriors organization reminds me of Lucy from those Peanuts cartoons holding a football for a placekick. Us Warrior fans are like Charlie Brown trying to kick the ball. Well, everyone knows that Lucy always takes the ball away at the last second, causing Charlie Brown to somersault into the air yelling, "Auuuuuuugh!"

Now there's two options as Charlie Brown.

A.) Deal with it and hope next time she'll let you kick it
B.) Kick her ass and feed her to snoopy

I think the Warriors fans that are left chose A. Those that chose B probably moved onto the Bulls with Jordan, Lakers with Kobe or the Suns/Pistons/Miami/Dallas or whatever team is winning right now.

I'm perseverant as the next fan, but I can't help but feel stupid for these guys taking our money when they have no clue about how to make a winning organization. That's like a coin landing tails 50 out of 50 times. What are the odds that guys going into draft lottery keep coming up empty? One could only imagine how different the clippers would be if they hadn't traded for Elton Brand and then finally found a backcourt that could get him the ball. We have the backcourt, but no Elton Brand type guy unless that's Diogu... it's frustrating.

Especially because this all points to COHAN. First he's bringing back Mullin and now Don Nelson? WTF? He's trying to sucker run tmc fans into false hope.

    I love this move.

Larry Brown and Nellie have completely different styles. Even after the disaster in New York, I'd gladly hire Brown. If you have the talent, you better play them accordingly to their strengths and Brown was a bad fit. That is why Isiah has no choice but to coach the team himself. Nobody in their right mind could with that assembled roster, maybe the maniac himself Isiah has a chance.

Same goes to Golden State. Due to the horrible contracts and frontcourt, the inability to move Murphy and Diogu waiting, hiring Nellie was the ONLY thing to do. The roster is competent but completely one sided. There is only one coach that has a chance to turn this franchise on the right track WITH these pieces and that's Nelson. In 2-3 years one of Biedrins or O'Bryant will be ready, we can dump some of our guys and play real basketball BUT until that time, you needed the appropiate coaching change. Adonal Foyle was already penciled for the starting role, jesus christ buy a f*cking clue Monty.

Everyone knows I hate Montgomery. The revolving door regarding our coaches isn't appealing to the eye but there is no way you can keep a coach after mentally collapsing every night. At a point Monty has a huge lead and within minutes the run starts and the game is over. It was like clockwork. Whether you know your X's and O's, that's inexcusable and apparently Chris Mullin felt the same way. It's not like he wanted to stay, he wanted the buyout as badly as management. Good riddance.

I don't think we're going to be contenders but Nellie isn't afraid to be unorthodox and that is exactly what we need. Get Foyle on the bench, get Montay playing time, get Murphy away from the 3 point line, buy Dunleavy a dress, talk to Baron, let Zarko run, get Ike isolated. No way Monty was going to get any of that done.

I have to say this was a great move on the front office.

Nellie is not quite the perfect coach, and this is not a perfect roster-but it ain't the Knix. Isaiah went by OUTDATED reps, saw guys who scored-ignored their flaws, saw guys who used to be good, who were big in college, He saw these "stars" going CHEAP (trade value),he thought he could Steinbrenner the NBA-just BUY a title. He wound up cornering the market on self centered prima donnas, slackers, chemistry cancers, boneheads and has beens.

A Fairly good-not great trio of Rooks just about became NY folk heros for actually giving a s**t

Mullin collected a roster with 9 lotto picks plus a couple of talented rd 2 surprises. In terms of charachter, work ethic, they are a bit above your random cross section as Mully and St Jean did not want another Sprewell or Chris Washburn. Being coachable is good. If the coach's plan is "do the hokey pokey" then following orders is not gonna be good ball---but what can they do?

We will have some killer speed in J Rich,Pietrus,Ellis. We have way more size than the Run TMC days-more speed/quickness too-more depth. We have a team that seriously underachieved. Unless you are on the bench or at practice or in the locker room you see coaching indirectly-as it is mirrored in the team.

Unleashed at last-i expect several of these players to show productivity beyond what's expected. We DID see each player have some big games,do some special stuff. I felt Monty got nothing out of a player finding his groove-and being dense-would revert to the usual stuff so that player would not find his groove again soon-and if he DID-chances are Monty would just take him out to play Fish.

Mullin did right giving Monty some time to adapt...and realized that Monty does NOT adapt at all-he would try different stuff at times-but stuff that WORKED went back on the shelf and the typical "Montyball" just stayed...and stayed...and stayed. It was a fatal mistake repeated forever as if someday it would be the miracle cure. That is NUTS.[IMG]

WTF! why would the warriors suddenly make playoffs? because they got a better coach? If they couldnt make it the other years then why would they make it now? the west is really really competitive this upcoming season, and every other team in pacific div. is better than last year and better than the warriors. expect the lottery, your team needs to be re-built.

I think a coach has to bring a system onto a team that the players buy into. When Monty first came to the W's, Baron was still on the Hornets and the W's didn't really have any vocal leaders. Monty's system didn't really work through February, and was basically thrown out the door when Baron came on board and the W's just played. I still have those games recorded on DVD and can sense the hope, enthusiasm, and joy of playing when I watch them.

However, with the enthusiasm at the end of the season and the hope brewing through the offseason, the W's just came out flat last year. Monty's system was back and the W's had a few games of somewhat better defense, but their offense was lacking and they could barely score 90 points.

IMO, Monty was given a chance at the end of the 04 season. All the momentum and excitement disappeared as soon as he re-installed his system and the 05 season wasted away. That was his chance, the momentum was there and the roster was the same, yet the run and gun style and the smiles had disappeared.

Nelson comes in with a roster that some considered "talented" two years ago. The flaws of the roster became glaring weaknesses last year, but I have the hope and expectation that Nelson will install his system and try his best to minimize the situations in which players' flaws will be accented. Nelson is known to make his system fit the players on the roster.

Plus, I admire Nelson's judge of talent and won't question any of the roster moves he will pull off. I'm thinking Mullin will have to buy into what his former coach thinks, at least I hope this is the understanding both gentlemen have agreed upon.

Kinda funny a Lakers fan can't understand what one coaching change can do when Lakers themselves improved 11 games with Jackson and made PO despite basically giving away Butler for Brown. First, no Warriors fan believe that making PO is a sure thing, and we do know that it would be a monumental achievement if we make PO. Second, right coaching change can improve a team significantly. Warriors do have number of good but flawed young talents, which fit into play run-and-gun. And, Nelson is a master of utilizing good and flawed talent and run-and-gun style of basketball. So, in paper, it's a very good match. If Nelson can't achive certain amount of success with this club, we really need to rebuild then.

Really, at least in paper, Nelson is a match made from the heaven. Not only Nelson's coaching style, he brings an instant respect to players, which Monty never gained. So, players will definitely buy into what Nelson will say. Also, Davis knows that this is basically his last chance to the stardom. He had problems with number of coaches, and if he fails to work with Nelson, he will permanently level as a headcase. I don't believe Davis is that dumb enough to blow this opportunity.

We will see how things will unfold, because despite positivies, Nelson can't make Foyle or any of our big man into dominating force. And, we still have serious financial problem ahead. Also, while I believe Nelson will have the control of Warriors while Mullin will take a well deserved back seat, Nelson wasn't exactly West either when he was with us, NY or Dallas. And, we can't afford to take other mistakes at this point. Either way, it certainly spiced up this offseason and upcoming 07-08 season for now...

Simple enough-the Warriors had playoff level parts, that New-Baron Run-and-Fun success showed that---we added Ike-Monta-POB-Taft to the pool, and a coach who knows the run style. Monty was like putting a 240 lb fat lady on a race horse. Kind of makes it hard for the horse to win-but that does not make it a bad horse.

Monty had quite a knack for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Dumb late game tactics were typical-and we'd blow a lead. Nellie may not quite be a savior-but we had a situation where if Monty stayed home and the players improvised-we'd have had more wins. So-if Nellie is just a SEMI-ASSET...it's a pretty good lift. The horse won't be runnin' with a fat lady to haul around and will be able to show what it can do.

Nellie-I assume-has no plan to be here long haul. He will groom an heir as he did in Dallas. We could not have likely come up with a better turnaround guy,at this time. We'd have had fewer options come December.

This team has a lot of talent. Some needs fine tuning---aka-coaching. Some especially need a role/system somewhat relevant to what they ARE good at. The team,as a whole, needs to feel the coach's ideas are apt to HELP,not be a handicap. We need creativity, need to get full worth from the whole squad. Nellie at least is a step in that direction.

Anything can go wrong or right...but based on the probabilities-we ought to have a playoff slot. We sure won't be worse. We likely won't be instant title contenders but this team-even towing Monty+Fish..was not far from the playoffs and is stocked with guys 26 and under who tend to improve every year

It's a good move on paper, but that's all it is until we actually see results.

I like what this might do for Zarko Cabarkapa or some other offensive mismatch that can handle the ball and outquick slower players. I'll be happy if we actually find a foundation this year. We haven't had a good sturdy foundation to beat any good teams during any time of the season and also one where a coach can come in and make finding a team identity easy. Mullin... though... is he reaching or what?

Well, I just got home and watched the webcast of the press conference. It sounds like Nellie is here because of his relationship with Mully, Higgins, and Mitch. It sounds like he wants to be with the W's and has some things planned with the roster. All in all it was an interesting and entertaining press conference.

I didn't understand the Tolbert joke at the end though.

expect playoffs? why? until they get more talent on that squad than I can't see them making the playoffs. he's a great coach but doesn't preach defense, and the warriors are a team who are already a weak defensive team.
