    New England Revolution,
city of Boston eyeing downtown site for soccer stadium

The New England Revolution's search for a new home was back in the news late Monday night with the Boston Globe reporting that “planning is quietly underway” between the club and the city of Boston on a potential soccer-specific stadium just south of downtown.

Citing “numerous sources,” the Globe says that the two parties are discussing situating the new facility on a centrally located, city-owned parcel of land just along Interstate 93 near the Broadway T station, not far from the interstate's junction with I-90.

The land in question, currently home to a lot where towed cars are impounded and public works vehicles are stored, would be subject to lengthy oversight and bidding processes, and the cost and financing details remain uncertain, according to the report.

The New England Revolution picked up their first point of the 2015 season, playing to a 0-0 draw with the Montreal Impact on Saturday afternoon in their home opener at Gillette Stadium. The Revs played up a man for the final 29 minutes after Montreal defender was sent off after receiving his second yellow card. However, the Revs were unable to break the deadlock and were forced to settle for the draw.
Diego Fagundez and Juan Agudelo were each dangerous in the opening 45 minutes for the Revs while, at the other end of the field, Dominic Oduro had the best chance for the Impact, firing a shot just wide of the far post from inside the box late in the half.

The Impact were reduced to 10 men in the 61st minute when Hassoun Camara was shown his second yellow card of the game and was sent off. Shortly after going up a man, Lee Nguyen had a pair of chances, driving a long-range shot on target, only for Evan Bush to make the save and then heading over the bar from the center of the area off a cross from Chris Tierney.

Andrew Farrell had the last chance to break the deadlock in the 90th minute, but his left-footed attempt was blocked and then cleared away by the Montreal defense, assuring each side of a point.

JUAN AGUDELO - Dangerous throughout the afternoon, Agudelo created a number of chances for the Revs and drew a pair of yellow cards in the game, including the second yellow card on Hassoun Camara, leading to his sending off

    Next Game

The Revolution will be back in action at home next weekend when they host the San Jose Earthquakes at Gillette Stadium. That game, which is scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m. ET, will be shown locally on Comcast SportsNet and simulcast on 98.5 The Sports Hub with Brad Feldman, Paul Mariner and Jessie Coffield. WMVX 1570 AM Nossa Radio USA will carry the game locally on the radio in Portuguese.

Colorado Rapids ground out a second successive goalless draw in their home opener with New York City FC at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday.
The hosts had the better of the game in front of a sell-out crowd of 17,692 but could not break through, even when the visitors had Shay Facey dismissed with eight minutes remaining.

After the stalemate in Philadelphia at fortnight ago, Pablo Mastroeni's side are now 0-0-2.

    FIRST HALF

Rapids started the brighter with Gabriel Torres forcing a save from keeper Josh Saunders at the near post, then Marc Burch drove a low effort just past the upright from distance.

Adam Nemec nearly bundled the ball home but otherwise the Rapids defense was in a miserly mood once more.

Dillon Powers was the most inventive home player. He headed over the bar on 22 minutes and fired beyond the far post towards half-time but the goal just would not come.

    SECOND HALF

Saunders tipped over from another Burch piledriver seven minutes into the second half as Rapids went searching for the opener. Until now David Villa had been quiet but, on 53 minutes, he sprung to life, forcing a fine save from Clint Irwin low to hisleft. Then captain Sam Cronin made a crucial block from Nemec. It would be New York FC's best period of the game.

Torres went clear and forced Saunders to tip over once more. Mastroeni then made changes by bringing on Marcelo Sarvas and debutant Juan Ramirez. The latter was brought down by Facey with eight minutes left on edge of the area and the defender was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.

Rapids piled forward in the final few minutes and forced a flurry of corners. However, New York City clung on.
