Great job Oregon. Idiots. Former Oregon judge who refused to marry same-sex couples appointed to Trump administration Vance Day was also accused of soliciting money from lawyers appearing before him, lying under oath and using his position for personal gain. PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Vance Day, a former Oregon judge with a controversial track record has joined the Trump administration to serve in the US Justice Department. Day confirmed his appointment as the Senior Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General in an email to KOIN 6 News on Thursday. A former Marion County judge, Day originally came under fire after refusing to issue marriage licenses for same-sex couples in Oregon in 2015. That news came on the same day as Kentucky clerk Kim Davis was jailed for contempt after she insisted it would violate her conscience to follow court orders to issue marriage licenses to gay couples. Then in Nov. 2016, a grand jury issued a secret indictment against Day, accusing him of helping a felon get a firearm twice. Court records showed he was also charged with two counts of official misconduct. At that time, an Oregon Judicial Department spokesperson called this, “an extraordinary occurrence.” In addition to refusing to perform same-sex weddings and allegedly allowing a convicted felon to handle a gun, Day was accused of soliciting money from lawyers appearing before him, lying under oath and using his position for personal gain. In October of that same year, recommended Day be removed from office. However, in March 2018, he was instead suspended for three years. In October of that same year, all charges were dropped against Day after a short trial in Portland. The court granted the state’s motion to “dismiss without prejudice” the charges against Day because of the “absence of an essential witness.” Since the statute of limitations had expired, the charges could not be refiled. https://www.koin.com/news/politics/...ex-couples-appointed-to-trump-administration/
Oregon is no paradise, but it’s still pretty decent. I’m a little worried the shitheel democrats running the show in Portland will roll over pretty quick to appease.
So there's an argument that politics/society are on a pendulum. The right seems to think that this is just the "correction" from how far "left" the pendulum swung (which really, it barely pivots past middle when the left is in charge). The only hope I have is that when the pendulum swings back, these ass hats get what they deserve.
Trump Says He’ll Withhold Maine Federal Funds After Boy Wins Girls’ Track Championship "We're not gonna give them any federal funding -- none whatsoever, until they clean that up." President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that his administration would withhold Maine federal funding following the news of a transgender-identifying boy taking first place in girls’ pole vaulting at Maine’s Class B state championship. In January, Maine’s Department of Education said it would not comply with Trump’s executive order titled “Keeping Men Out Of Women’s Sports.” Additionally, the Maine Principals’ Association (MPA) said earlier this month that the state would allow males to continue competing in girls’ and women’s sports, again ignoring Trump’s order. “I heard men are still playing in Maine,” Trump said on Thursday. “We’re not gonna give any federal money. They are still saying, ‘We want men to play in women’s sports.’ And I cannot believe they’re doing that.” “We’re not gonna give them any federal funding — none whatsoever, until they clean that up,” Trump emphasized. https://www.dailywire.com/news/trum...funds-after-boy-wins-girls-track-championship
A new Gallup poll on LGBTQ+ identities in the US finds that 1.3% of American adults identify as trans, more than the traditionally stated 0.5%.
Wyoming passed a law that no one is required to use another person's preferred pronouns. At a legislative committee hearing, a woman attending addressed the chair as Madam Chair. He huffily pointed out he is Mister Chair. The woman pointed out she doesn't have to use his preferred pronouns.
While I applaud the principle, technically aren't "Mr." and "Madam" honorifics rather than pronouns? That's one of the weird things about the whole "preferred pronouns" thing - it never comes up in actual conversations unless you're being talked about as a third party.
The new EO banning trans athletes from entering the country to compete can be interpreted vaguely enough to effectively ban all trans people from entering the country, period. Sure, technically visiting doesn’t always require a visa but one overzealous TSA agent can put you in a little gray room for interrogation, and sent back with a lifetime ban. So I might have to move to the UK to marry my fiancée.
