    But Nic is 24!

Interesting notes re: the two players

George has shot 605 FG's, and 224 of them were 3's.

Batum has shot 507 FG's and 274 of them were 3's.

So I guess RoyToy's complaint that Nic shoots a ton of 3's is somewhat valid (by comparison to Paul).

Although I think that's a fairly weak argument to make, but in that regard the two aren't similar. It's interesting to think that George has shot more over 100 more FG's in 1 more game (and fewer minutes).

take away 3 pointers, and Nic shoots almost 51% from 2's.

take away 3 pointers, and George shoots 43%

which somewhat suggests that Nic should shoot more 2 point FG's (kind of going in favor of "he shoots too many 3's" thinking).

Both shoot a lot of 3's, but George shoots more, and misses more, 2 pointers than Nic does.

I hadn't really looked at the stats, just going based on what I see when they play. Both are young, and have been begged by their fans to play more consistently. Both are decent shooters, George is a better slasher and has a slightly better handle, but Nic does more with his dribble when he drives (as in actually pass to teammates and create for others). Both are long and lanky, and can guard 3-4 positions fairly effectively (Nic, moreso). But it's interesting to see them both breakout this year after getting hype about their potential breakouts over the past few years.

    Jan stats:

    Nic: 18.7pts, 6.5rebs, 4.5asts, 3.1tos, 44.9%fg, 38.3% 3pt, 1.2stl, 0.6blk in 41mpg
    George: 20.1pts, 10rebs, 3.4asts, 2.8tos, 41.6%fg, 37.3% 3pt, 2.8stls, 0.3blk in 38mpg

    Very comparable.

    Grass is greener mentality, imho.
While Portland, just like EVERY FAN BASE IN ALL OF SPORTS, seems to over sell how good their players are, they also undersell how good they are.

TBH, I think the only thing George has going for him over Nic is his age. But the 1.5yrs difference doesn't necessarily scream more room for improvement. You put Nic on a team with George/West/Hibbert and his defensive numbers will be at elite status.

I wanted George on draft day. He was called the "biggest sleeper" in the entire draft at the time. Did KP take full credit for this? I bet he did.

    I wanted him bad.

Paul George is a much better defender than Batum, at defend 1s through 4s.

Paul George is not a better defender then Batum. His whole team is great defensively but switch him with Batum and those defensive numbers the Pacers are putting up dont change.

I'd make that swap in a heartbeat. George is probably better right now and his overall ceiling is higher than Batum's. He's going to emerge as a star in the next couple years.

He went 10th in the 2010 draft so he was never a realistic target for the Blazers. Oh well.

Batums DRtg is 106, George's is 96. That is a huge difference.

Batum allows an average PER of 12.7 and his opponents shoot 50% eFG.

George allows an average PER of 11.1 and his opponents shoot 39% eFG.

Batum has 1.4 defensive win shares this season, George has 3.2.

It's easy to see in the games and in the stats that George is a better defender.

He's also a better three point shooter, has the same assist rate with a lower turnover rate, and obviously a much better rebounding rate than Batum.

    And he's 2 years younger.

George is helped out by a great defensive team overall. Every starter on that team is a good defender.
As for watching them, I only catch a handful of pacer games a year and george is a little more physical but doesnt look better then Batum.

Do you have it set to cumulative or single seasons? I'm just looking at stats from this season. Nic's eFG% is still higher though, as is his ORtg. Their assist percentages are both 18.7%, Batums TO rate is 15.9%, George's is 14.5%. Batum has been better at overall offense, George is just better at threes. But with George's assist rate already as good as Batum's, I can only think his playmaking will improve, as Batum's has.
