I wonder, has the same NBA team ever drafted 3 players, in 3 straight years, that each ended up winning the NBA MVP award?

It's a self congratulatory show, that showcases just much the NBA players secretly just want to be praised at all times.

2013 draftees won the past three most improved player awards.

    2016- CJ (#10)
    2017- Giannis (#15)
    2018- Oladipo (#2)

guess this draft can't be thought of as crappy anymore.

It's sort of a backhanded compliment for the best players of the draft class to win MIPs. You want the cream of the crop to produce early, not be difficult-to-project late bloomers.

It's amazing to me that it hasn't been done before. Think about it from the NBAPA side, rookies aren't officially members of the player's association until drafted, so you're primarily looking out for your own interests. What better way than by getting guys signed in free agency BEFORE a rookie is drafted, and a team decides meh, we've drafted his replacement, why bother signing him. Or a guy falls to you in the draft, and then costs a vet their job. Makes way too much sense, IMO.

The draft should be called Free Agency and Free Agency should be called Expensive Agency.

Outside of a convenience thing and the apparent delay to tabulate playoffs revenue, there is NO reason why the draft should occur in the prior year's fiscal calendar. This delay has screwed us in the past. Think about 2015 when we traded our draft pick and largely did nothing in the draft while waiting for Aldridge to make his decision. Had we definitively known that he was leaving, you bet Neil would have been more aggressive in the draft. Same thing back in 2009 when KP was protecting his valued capspace and was passive (for him) in that draft prior. He then struck out on his FA (Hedo) and essentially wasted that draft as well.
