What about the contribution of crusty vets Hedo, Alston and Lewis?

    Oh wait, Orlando lost.

I understand your point. There are really 2 separate debates going on here.

First, is adding experience a worthwhile goal, particularly if we have to give quality to get quality?

Second, was there a player we needed/wanted available?

I was going to ask the same thing. One side's vets helped, the others didn't. So that's a sign vets were needed? Andre Miller has 22 games of playoff experience. Never been out of the first round. Hedo has WAY mroe playoff experience. So shouldn't Hedo have been carrying Orlando to a win? No. That doesn't help your bull shit excusemaking. Why no mention of the defending champions? All of those guys have the experience of a title run as recently as last season. And got beat by a rookie PG.

For some folks, this topic is clearly a giraffe fart - ie it goes right over their heads.

This discussion isn't about every NBA game ever played - it is about 2 specific games.

The Blazers fell into a big hole early, went to pieces, and got humiliated. Philly fell into a big hole early, kept their heads, and ultimately won the game. If you are going to sit there and tell me that Portland's inexperience had NOTHING to do with that.....I just don't know what to say.

The issue is not veterans alone. It is about quality vets that fit into the team concept and can lead.

And let's not start jocking Donyell Marshal too much. He has 6 other games to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Your idea is that Portland needed to get veteran players to have a chance in the playoffs. As an example you used Philly. Great! They do have a couple of crusty vets that showed up when they were needed. Unfortunately for your argument, Orlando has MORE crusty vets who didn't show up and let Philly back in the game.

Hell, Miami decided to start James Jones due to his crusty veteran-ness and look how that worked out.

The sad fact is that veteran experience played no roll in Philly's victory since it was easily balanced by the other team.

I was one of the people here who wanted Portland to get a veteran and was disappointed that KP didn't do anything with RLEC. I do think another slasher who could get calls would be worth having, since Roy is the only guy on the team who can get his own shot consistently. Not having that didn't doom Portland on Saturday. Not coming to play and not matching Houston's aggression did. I can't think of one player mentioned as a possible target could have turned the tide in that game.

Because this discussion has nothing to do with either Orlando or Huston. It is about Philly and Portland. It is about how 2 teams facing the same crisis responded in opposite ways!

This is where I totally disagree. If Philly was as inexperienced as Portland, they would have lost.

You said it yourself - experience balanced out experience, and that gave Philly a *chance* to win, despite their rough start. Not a guarantee, but a fighting chance.

I see. So you refuse to listen to other examples, because they don't fit your specific example. That's just stupid. Good luck to you. Keep whining about what happened in February, I suppose.

Fine. Cite an example where a team lost BECAUSE they were more experienced than their opponents, and I will be happy to listen.

Every game has a winner and a loser. Experienced teams aren't immune to being on the losing side, and I never implied otherwise. That doesn't mean experience caused them to lose. OTOH, inexperience CAN cause you to lose.

How so? I'm pretty sure there was "talk" at the trade deadline; IIRC, a lot of people were hopeful that K-pee would have somehow flipped RLEC (Raef Lafrentz's expiring corpse) into Miller ... or maybe it was that Andre Miller was about to enter free agency? Either way, I still miss Miller a little bit.
