I just heard on ESPN (from Ric Bucher) that the Nets don't want to trade Kidd unless they can find a find another suitor for Carter as well. Right now the Clippers might end up with Carter, if that is the case, then the trade is good to go (Portland will be the third team in the Kidd trade in this scenario).
I would definitely be disappointed if we odnt make a trade of some sort. We have passed on so many players that we have only allowed other teams to get better. We have had the past three seasons with the players like Odom, Mihm, and Kwame and we have not become succesful. In addition, we have the expiring contracts to make trades with teams like the Nets or any team that want to rebuild and have a solid player. I do think that this time the Lakers are working to get the trade done, its all a matter of both teams coming to an agreement and NBA approval.

The Nets fans should be the ones disappointed, because they're blowing an opportunity to head start their franchise on rebuilding. The harsh reality for the Nets is they aren't ever going to win a title with the trio of Kidd-Carter-Jefferson. Unfortunately, they've suffered through injuries, and the teams competing in the East have passed them up over the past few seasons. The Lakers have always been on a 3-Year plan to get back to championship level. This is only the 2nd year of that plan, and there have been injury setbacks to the core players, which has made it frustrating at times. However, the Lakers are right where they need to be for the post-season, seeding wise, and adding Kidd for our spare parts is just a bonus. If not, it just indicates the Lakers aren't willing to panic (like they did with Shaq) in order to get a deal done.
Nets fans you can't look at the trade at face value. At face value it's a lopsided deal for the Lakers, Kidd is better than any player the Lakers are sending to New Jersey. Now here's the BUT and this is why the Nets should do this deal. The Nets aren't trading for Mihm, McKie, nor Shammond those three combine for $8M the Nets can spend on a free agent. Kwame Brown gives them an expiring contract they can exercise as early as this summer. In the interim the Nets can give Kwame the opportunity to emerge as the teams starting PF or C to play alongside Kristic. I know Kwame hasn't lived up to being selected #1 overall, but he is a servicable center, and 7 footers who can defend the paint are a premium in the NBA. If Kwame doesn't work out, the Nets only have to deal with him for a season. Jordan Farmar gives the Nets insurance for Marcus Williams. He's cheap, young talent, and has trade value if the Nets decide he doesn't fit in with their rebuilding. The Nets will also get a pick in this year's draft, which is going to be one of the deepest and talented since LeBron's 2003 draft class. The Lakers pick will be a late 1st rounder, but it gives the Nets another young role player to build around their new core of Marcus Williams-Richard Jefferson-Nenad Kristic AND who ever the Nets end up drafting with their own 1st Round pick. Currently the Nets have the 11th pick in the draft. With this trade, the team will lose a lot more, and increase their ping pong balls and draft position. If the Nets can lose enough to put themselves 8th or better in the draft, they could land a potential franchise/star quality player.

Anyways, I'm making a bold prediction that if the Lakers do trade for Jason Kidd, they will get him before Friday
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">they will get him before Friday</div> Well yea, because the deadline ends on Thursday.

Anyways, I'm making a bold prediction that if the Lakers do trade for Jason Kidd, they will get him before Friday</div> No I'm just trying to explain the reasons why New Jersey shouldn't pass up on this deal. The Lakers won't be able to make an offer once the trade deadline passes, because they won't have the expiring contracts to use. There's also a chance Jordan Farmar or Smush Parker goes on a run in the playoffs, which would cool any interest in Kidd. Kidd could suffer an injury from now until summer, which would make him even harder to deal. There's so much potential risk for New Jersey if they don't deal Kidd. Getting older and more expensive isn't going to increase Kidd's value. Teams are also reluctant to make a blockbuster trade in the offseason.
They do. I really want Kidd in a Laker uniform. He deserves to be in a contending team and not on a team that's on the verge of rebuilding.
Remember where you heard it first! According to Bucher, the Nets owner has signed off on the trade but Thorn has asked for some more time to make a desperate stab at Bynum.
I don't get it....They want Bynum and Farmar yet they have Kristic and Williams. Does that make any sense to anyone?
Well, they're not getting Bynum no matter how hard they ask. There's no way we will trade away a 19 year old center with loads of potential for a 34 year old point guard, who will probably retire before Bynum even reaches his prime. Also, let's say we do trade Bynum, we still need to throw in Kwame Brown to make the salaries match, so it makes absolutely no sense for the Lakers because it will leave us with no post presence what so ever. Take in consideration Radmanovic's recent injury, it's most definetly not going down.
I actually want this deal to happen since the Nets are in my division, but I actually see them getting hosed in this deal. Jason Kidd is having probably the best year of his career and has shown no illeffects of his old age, so his value should still be pretty high. The Nets just get some expiring contracts which expire in the next couple of years and a little bit of young talent. I think the Nets could do better in the offseason. I doubt Kidd will suffer a serious injuyd from now until the summer. A true, Hall of Fame bound point guard like Kidd is still valuable no matter how much he makes. The Nets can always just trade him for a huge expiring contract and some draft picks and/or young players. Just messing around with the trade checker I see an even better trade: Kidd to Dallas for Austin Croshere, Jerry Stackhouse and a first rounder. I don't think that trade will go down, but my point is there are better options for the Nets if they don't rush this deal. But like I said earlier, I hope this trade does go down since the Nets are in the Atlantic.

I'm actually really happy with how Kupchak is going about this, calling Bynum and Odom untouchable, pretty much leaving this in the hands of Rod Thorn. And also, as I just heard, Jason Kidd WANTS to come here, he's ready to pack his bags and join us. Hopefully Thorn shows him some respect and pulls the trigger on this trade by the deadline.
So it just a matter of Rod Thorn pulling the trigger. We are just going to have to seat and wait and I hope we find out before tomorrow's deadline because this is nerve racking. Eitherway we will find out by tomorrow in the afternoon. DO IT THORN, DO IT!
PJax was on the radio this morning and said he doesn't see the Jason Kidd deal happening. However, I think the Lakers have a backup plan in case the Kidd deal doesn't go down. PJax said the young players need help.

I really hope this deal goes through because it would likely push us to a Western elite (or very close to it). However, I am curious as to what their backup plan is if it doesn't fall through...any info on that shape?

I'd speculate we get Juan Dixon possibly or Magloire since those are two players Portland is trying to move.
