Now they (Ryan Reynolds/Rob McElhenny) are getting into serious professional football. Going into League One now, The Championship is the only other level before Premiership. League One clubs are all valued in the 100's of millions of pounds. Premiership team are all valued at one billion plus pounds. They are gonna have to hire all new management to get to the Championship as well as begin paying for high priced players. Half the current squad will not be at the level technically to compete. If anyone here wants to jump on a bandwagon, Wrexham is the one. Caution, it is addicting.

Wimbledon did about 4 in a row back in the day. Now they don't exist. But they gave us Vinnie Jones, shown here "marking" Paul Gascoigne (AKA "Pele without a brain")

ALSO: Ipswich are about to be promoted to the PREMIER LEAGUE, and they only got promoted to the Championship this season. Probably dooming Leeds to stay in the Championship and sell off a bunch of players in the process. NOT THAT I'M MAD ABOUT THAT AT ALL

Oh they're going down again. It's SO HARD to stay up, the gulf between the Premier League and the rest of the EFL is huge, not least because of how expensive it is to compete. As a result, teams tend to yo-yo back and forth between the two. Apart from Ipswich, the three other teams separating themselves from the pack in the Championship are the three teams that got relegated last year, and the promoted teams are likely to be relegated (Sheffield United already has been - they've been up and down in alternating seasons for about the past five).

Marcelo Bielsa has been deified by Leeds fans not just because he dragged a mediocre mid-table team from the Championship to the Premier League and then (with practically no changes - Bielsa was stubbornly loyal to His Guys) finished tenth in the Premier League their first season up. Then we draw a veil over the rest of his tenure. But also he did it with a hugely attractive constantly attacking style. Current coach Daniel Farke has done a similar job with a similar style, but he also got Norwich promoted a few years ago, and then relegated and then promoted and then relegated.

Leeds' fortunes should change because of the 49ers ownership, but you can't just spend all you like, you get penalized if you're not earning enough.

Thanks so much. We should have a soccer thread man. I know just enough because of my daughter playing….but definitely starting to want to get into it. My daughter is helping me pick an EPL team to follow.

If you want to follow a team that will win, Man City. If you want a cute little underdog that plays attractive football, Brentford, Brighton or Fulham. If you want a team that both competes and is The People's Favorite, it's Liverpool. If you want a team that is currently in shambles but has a formidable history (and thus lots of enemies), Man Utd. If you're Jewish, Tottenham. If you want an unlikable team, Chelsea. Arsenal is sort of the IBM. They'll never finish out of the top half of the table but their nickname for years was "Boring, boring Arsenal".

My daughter has favorite players, not necessarily teams. Her college coach is from Liverpool and is a diehard!

Funny story! High school graduation present last spring, her grandma, mom and her went to Europe for 3 weeks. While in Florence out and about training and going for a run, she told me people were booing and being kinda rude to her and she couldn’t understand why….. she was wearing a damn Juventus jersey….. I googled it and they are a rival in that soccer league! I told her she better not wear her Barcelona kit in Madrid or she might get taken out!!! HA!!! IMG_5351.jpeg

Don't like her list of teams (I guess Barca's all right - they currently feature EX-LEEDS player Raphina) but the players are pretty choice. De Bruyne is sort of a Doncic with a Jokic personality. Bellingham is the best English player in a generation and one of our very few truly world-class players.

Lakers: Man U. Celtics: Liverpool, only without the racist connotations. These two teams have the most championships throughout history.
Knicks: hm - not sure what you're looking for - presumably they'd have to be a London team, but are they suddenly good after years of malaise? Or are they just the best London team? That would make them Arsenal (who also usually have a disciplined defense), although Arsenal had a dominant run there under French coach Arsene Wenger and with great French striker Thierry Henry. So maybe the Spurs would be a better comparison.
Chelsea and Man City don't really have that much history until they got bought by incredibly wealthy foreigners. Man City was actually like Everton (i.e., City were in the shadow of United as Everton is to Liverpool - also same Red/Blue divide) until getting the cash infusion and hiring best-coach-in-the-world Pep Guardiola.

What's a good analogy for the Warriors? Probably Nottingham Forest. They're not good now (although they will probably survive in the PL after being promoted last year) but they had a famous spell under the Greatest English Coach of All Time Brian Clough (whose tumultuous time in charge of Leeds is told in the movie The Damn United) - think Poppovich with Ali's mouth.

Actually, now that I think of it, Leeds makes a good Knicks. Leeds were the best team in England through much of the 70s (80s belonged to Liverpool, 90s to Man U) when they were famously dirty. To this day, despite years in the wilderness, they still have a huge supporter base disproportional to their success, and are equally widely hated.

Actually, in the Champions League Semi-Final going on RIGHT NOW between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, the two key players might just be English: Bellingham vs. Harry Kane.
