It's amazing to me that this guy can try and play both sides! Owners and now players! No credibility!

Why would the players want to win this case as well? Say they get $2 billion, with $6 billion being the trebled judgement. Upon appeal, that judgement would be knocked down, if history is any indicator.

It would basically destroy the NBA as a league.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the whole thing, but I thought the treble thing was over the LIFE of the potential CBA, is it just over one year?

If it's over the life of it, they're asking for 6+ billion per year of it, right?

If it's not, they're asking for what you said (which might be what it is). The funny thing is, they are dumb if they think winning the case, or even having to settle the case, will get them what they want. If anything, it would (and imho, should) lower the amount of money they get and the size of the contracts they receive. It means the Owners would have even less money to deal with.

If you sue me for 6 billion, and I end up being forced to pay you 3 billion, that's 3 billion less that I have and you'll get even less then you would before you sued me. The owners are richer then the players, but they're not THAT generous. The players are that stupid apparently though.

I also wonder who any financial judgement would be awarded. Would the 10 or so players in the lawsuit get all of the money? Would they divvy it up with other union members? If that's the case, wouldn't it be considered extra income, and would be taxed at an almost 50% rate by the time the federal, state, and local taxes were taken out of it.

Also, I think it's $3 billion over the CBA that they're fighting for in this lawsuit. Not total profits, but rather a percentage of money lost during the course of the CBA.

It's all a ploy, anyhow, and Boies talking about a settlement is laughable. That's just not going to happen.

It's three weeks into the supposed NBA season. Antitrust lawsuits outnumber game box scores in my computer bag 3-0.

Mills changes teams from Australia to China, so for the thousandth time we hear...

You guys have been told by Ed O that U.S. anti-trust law only takes into account job opportunities within the U.S. Yet you continue to spew the same ignorant personal opinions over and over, thinking that little loudmouth you will overturn long-settled law.

This isn't some game in an arena in which the side which wins is the side which most stupidly yells the loudest. All this dumb hick yahooing won't change the outcome.

No one is stopping them from working in the US, there just aren't any other basketball jobs available.

We know, we know. You've snarked about it in a dozen posts in the last 4 days. I just read 5 days of posts, and believe me, I know, I know.

Wow, what a shock. Probably time to just PM me, eh Gramps, and save everybody else your hi-jacking of this thread?

You see, to do that, you just click on my name, and then click on "Private Message". I assume you don't know how, since most of your posts are to me these days, yet are in the public forum. ;)

Oh my God, the treble damages would be only for the players' lost salaries until they start being paid again. Obviously, what you're saying would be akin to the U.S. paying the Indians for 200 years GNP of a stolen continent.

Oh God, listening to all these idiots has driven me to religion. This is a nuthouse. Yes, you morons! Only 10 players will divvy up the $6B in treble damages! Yes, you are right!

they want triple damages from the start of this year until the resolution is reached? That's at least reasonable, although not practical.

There are ~10 players suing the NBA. There is no union right now. Boies represents the players in the lawsuit.

Again, who gets the money in a settlement/judgement? Would any players not under contract, like rookies and free agents, be a part of any settlement/judgement?

You're quick to label people moronic, but what is the answer to the question?
