Evans was rushing to catch a flight. Was unsure if there would be a meeting tomorrow.

    Great stuff John.

Tell Olivia hi from Uncle MM

On a basketball related note, I wonder what the owners are bringing to the table....and why? Could this be Sterns way of throwing Hunter a bone?

Spurs' Matt Bonner tells @Monroe_SA there may have been some progress. But you "have to remember how large the gaps were to begin with."

With seemingly minimal progress made at today's labor negotiations, expect remainder of the preseason to be cancelled

You keep confidently saying that the players will cave in and you keep being wrong. Just because you will something doesn't make it so.

I predict the owners will cave in, but not soon. Just because I will something makes it so.

What if the new CBA calls for a 5% reduction in all player salaries, but a player just quits the union and refuses to sign the new agreement? Is he still under contract? Do they have to pay him 100%? Can anyone play if he's not in the union?

How about a player whose playing days are over but he's still being paid? Like deferred payments which some get over the years. Or like Brandon Roy. Do they get 5% reductions too?

The NBA will sign it's contract with he NBAPA. If a player is not a member of the union, he is not an NBA player period

How am I wrong? The players will cave well before the owners. The owners have no reason to cave.

Unless they're lying that they're losing money. What's to stop an owner from hiring a player not in the union? Has the owner signed a contract with the League, who has signed a contract with the union, to not hire anyone unless they join the union?

And you didn't answer about someone who won't be playing anymore: 1) deferred payments, or 2) under contract for next season but who has no incentive to accept a 5% reduction since his playing days are over (e.g. Brandon Roy).

I know as a former member of the teamsters, If you work at say Kroger or Safeway in the warehouse, you have to be in a union because Safeway has a contract with them. So the contract itself is stopping the owners from hiring non union employees.

As for the second part, I'm not really sure? I would assume it's the same as other unions though. I would think in order to get retirement benefits and such through the union, you would need to be in said union. If they rejected the contract their union signed, they would lose their pension and medical benefits. I would assume anyway?
