Teams will have approximately 75 percent of the money removed from their salary cap over the length of the deal and his new team will only have 25 percent of his annual salar moving forward. Players who are released under this clause will still receive the full amount of money they are owed. But sources say the biggest hurdle is how long teams will have to pay the player his remaining balance. The headline on ESPN was that Stern was homesick and left negotiations. Clicked the link, expecting to hear how Stern really missed his binky, only to find out he went home sick and was still texting Silver.
The guy responsible for hiring Kahn and the illegal Joe Smith contract is the most responsible of the group. Yep, kiss your season goodbye.
I find this curious, I would think the union would want over a longer period of time. This will allow an injured/underachieving (and thus probably older and past his prime) player to gain monetary compensation long past his playing days when he may be lacking other sources of high-income.
If this happens, do you think they dare use it on Brandon? I remember they couldn't use it fast enough on Derek Anderson last time!
