Hasn't David Stern learned his lesson? Last time he stayed up this late he got a nasty cold.

In texting/talking to NBA folks today there's actually optimism floating around that a deal can be reached soon. We'll see.

After 12 hours of labor talks, NBA and NBPA are making progress on system issues, including luxury tax, three sources with knowledge tell Y!

Adrian Wojnarowski: NBA, NBPA sources still believe if they can close gaps and agree on system issues -- tax, exceptions, etc., -- BRI will fall into place.

Something tells me the owners may have been using the 50-50 proposal to try and get what they want with the system issues.

"Don't give us 50-50? Fine, we want this instead."

Chris Mannix: One source briefed on the talks Wednesday said agreement by the end of the week "very possible." "Lot of real progress tonight,"

Chris Mannix: Sides are still navigating the system issues, source said, but believes a middle ground "is within sight." BRI split still needs work.

They finally have the order right. First you negotiate the system, then you worry about the split. If you negotiate the BRI split without the details of the system, then you really have no idea what money goes to who.

And as always, keep this all in perspective:

Chris Mannix: ...how rank-and-file on both sides will respond to it. Remember, small groups has meant progress. When it goes big, it usually blows up

We'll see what the supposed group of "hardline" owners think of the talks.

Wonder how long they'll take to officially ratify and all vote on an agreement after the small groups reach a principle agreement.

Didn't only like half the players even vote back in 98-99?

Getting the owners vote is the big hurdle

Top players will just convince the other players. Like the other players really have a clue what's going on anyways.
