Probably because the real athletes aren’t playing baseball or else I bet the batting average would skyrocket - if they had real athletes swinging a bat instead of Chuckles McShoeless.

So the guys throwing the ball aren’t athletes either beings that is what the conversation is about. Do you have any idea how many people can actually throw a ball 95+ MPH?
Masters at their sport whether it be basketball, football, baseball or even golf deserve a bit more respect than that. Are we now saying track and field participants are not athletes?

Funny part of this conversation is Pat Con goes and has a solid career in the NBA but might never have made it in Major League Baseball.

Put a team of baseball players in athletic testing against a team of football players and see which team is more “athletic”.

The real athletes are in football and basketball.

Side note: Just because something doesn’t require athleticism doesn’t mean anyone can do it. As you brought up golf, that’s a great example. Being a great athlete doesn’t help you, nor does being a good or great golfer make you some super athlete. There are other skills you need. Hence why Pat C could be a serviceable basketball player but never make it to the Big Leagues. By the way, there are a *lot* more stories of players being good enough in baseball and choosing a different sport. Kyler Murray, Russ Wilson, Mahomes come to mind without having to think for more than literally a single second. I would venture to guess that a lot more professional basketball/football players would have a *chance* to make it in the MLB than MLB players having a *chance* to make it to the NBA/NFL; if only because most MLB players would be undersized point guards with limited agility, speed and probably have a mediocre (at best) vertical to go with it.

Doesn’t mean baseball is easy. But the athletes are in football and basketball.

This is a thread about Beavers baseball, not about how baseball athletes suck.

Anywho, Beavs just completed the sweep and went 5-0 versus Oregon in a 11-day span. Possibly ranked #1 nationally tomorrow - depending on if the polls keep Tennessee at 1 despite losing a series to lowly Kentucky.

Reminder that this is a Blazer message board where 90% of the fans here aren't aware of that (Blazer trades - we should of gotten an All Star in return for CJ). :bgrin::biglaugh:

Looks like the Beavs moved to #1 in some of the polls and Tennessee stayed at #1 in some polls.

I'd rather not be #1 at this point. Keep us at #2 and we can prove if we're #1 worthy in the postseason.

Finally dropped a series in Tucson :sigh: they had it rolling up 5-1 in the clinching rubber match and the bullpen shit the bed for the first time all year. I don't know enough a about pitching staff to know if Canham was experimenting or giving younger guys more opps. They gave up 9 runs between the 5th 6th and 7th innings to lose 10-5. Ouch!

They got some of the strongest pitching I've seen in years with Hjerpe and Kmatz then they got a kid Jacob Melton that seems to never miss at bat.
Tennessee can't seem to miss though. Stanford like usual is very strong this year.

Baltimore Orioles call up top prospect Adley Rutschman for MLB debut

The Baltimore Orioles have called up catcher Adley Rutschman from Triple-A Norfolk, and he is expected to make his major league debut Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Rutschman, the top prospect in minor league baseball and the overall top draft pick in 2019 out of Oregon State, was hitting .309 with 3 home runs and 9 RBIs this season in 19 games across three levels of the minors in 2022.

He played 123 games for Double-A Bowie and Norfolk in 2021, batting .285 with 23 home runs and 85 RBIs.

Rutschman, 24, suffered a strained right triceps during a minor league intrasquad game in March, delaying his start to the season.

Rutschman is set to wear No. 35, the same number Hall of Famer Mike Mussina wore when he pitched for the Orioles.

In a corresponding move, catcher Anthony Bemboom was designated for assignment.

Also Saturday, the Orioles activated Ryan Mountcastle from the injured list, recalled right-hander Mike Baumann from Norfolk and optioned right-hander Logan Gillaspie and left-hander Nick Vespi to Norfolk.

Mountcastle, who was dealing with a strained left wrist, is hitting .268 with 4 homers and 16 RBIs this season.
