Report: LiAngelo Ball, UCLA Players Likely to Be Placed on House Arrest

UCLA basketball players LiAngelo Ball, Jalen Hill and Cody Riley reportedly could be forced to serve 20 days of house arrest and receive permanent banishment from China after being arrested for stealing Tuesday in Hangzhou.

On Thursday, Ken Sugiura of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported the players, who were released on bail Wednesday, might serve the punishment at the Hyatt Regency Hangzhou, the hotel where UCLA and Georgia Tech players stayed ahead of their game Saturday (Friday night U.S. time) in Shanghai.

LaVar Ball released a statement on social media, saying the process "could take months" to conclude, per Joshua Berlinger of CNN:

No. 10 USC rolls past Cal State Fullerton 84-42 in opener

Southern California coach Andy Enfield is willing to give Chimezie Metu some leeway, and the junior uses it sometimes to call his own shot.

He didn't hit a basket when he did that Friday night, but Metu showed off new range from beyond the arc in the 10th-ranked Trojans' 84-42 rout of Cal State Fullerton to open the season.

    Trier's 30 leads hot-shooting Wildcats past Retrievers

The Arizona Wildcats, with the help of a preseason All-American and an impact newcomer, are putting up a lot of points.

Third-ranked Arizona scored over 100 points for the second straight contest, the first time the Wildcats have done so in the first two games of a season since 2002.

Allonzo Trier scored 30 points, freshman big man Deandre Aytonadded 19 and 13 rebounds and Arizona overpowered Maryland-Baltimore County for a 103-78 win on Sunday.

No. 10 USC rallies to beat North Dakota State 75-65

Three years ago, it was inconceivable that Bennie Boatwright wouldn't be shooting a boatload of 3-pointers.

And harder to imagine that the junior scored a career-high 28 points with just one made 3 in 10th-ranked Southern California's 75-65 victory over North Dakota State on Monday night.

No. 23 UCLA escapes with 106-101 win over Central Arkansas

The freshmen who aren't playing for UCLA have been getting all the headlines. Kris Wilkes is starting his career by holding things down in their absence.

Wilkes scored 20 points, including five straight in overtime, and No. 23 UCLA rallied past stubborn Central Arkansas 106-101 on Wednesday night, hours after three of the Bruins' freshmen confessed to shoplifting in China and were indefinitely suspended.

Trier scores 28, No. 3 Arizona rolls past Cal St-Bakersfield

Allonzo Trier and Deandre Ayton are quickly forming a duo as dynamic as any in college basketball.

And the season's just getting started.

Trier made eight of nine shots, including all three 3-point attempts, and scored 28 points as the No. 3 Wildcats coasted to their third straight victory, 91-59 over Cal State-Bakersfield on Thursday night.

No. 23 UCLA routs South Carolina State 96-68 behind 3 frosh

For the first time in three games, UCLA looked like it was having fun.

The 23rd-ranked Bruins were flying around, dunking, crashing the boards, getting out in transition. All the weight and worry they had been carrying since the season began with an international incident in China and two close victories seemed to go away in the second half.

Jaylen Hands scored 22 points to lead three freshmen in double figures, and UCLA defeated South Carolina State 96-68 on Friday night despite a depleted roster.

No. 10 USC eases past Lehigh 88-63 on 3-point shooting

Jonah Mathews found out as a freshman that nothing is guaranteed at USC. Starting lineups are decided by performances in practice and scrimmages.

The sophomore impressed in the preseason and is keeping it up now that games count.

Mathews scored 18 points, making four of USC's season-high-tying 12 3-pointers, and the 10th-ranked Trojans beat Lehigh 88-63 on Wednesday night for their 21st straight non-conference victory.

Arizona State beats No. 15 Xavier 102-86

Arizona State's Bobby Hurley calls his current Sun Devils "the best offensive team" he's ever coached.

Hard to dispute that on Friday.

Tra Holder scored a career-high 40 points, and Arizona State continued its offensive juggernaut in a 102-86 upset of No. 15 Xavier in the championship game of the Las Vegas Invitational.

Washington State knocks off No. 21 Saint Mary's 84-79

In less than 24 hours, Washington State went from playing another game of catch-up to dictating down the stretch against a ranked team.

Malachi Flynn scored 26 points and the Cougars held off No. 21 Saint Mary's 84-79 to reach the title game of the Wooden Legacy on Friday.

Prince Ali scores career-high 21 points, No. 23 UCLA rolls

Prince Ali was given an opportunity to crack the starting lineup at UCLA. Bruins coach Steve Alford doesn't put much weight into who starts and who doesn't but rather puts stock in the contributions from his players.

It was clear Ali took much pride in the starting nod. He scored 16 of his career-high 21 points in the first half and No. 23 UCLA beat UC Irvine 87-63 on Sunday.

White leads No. 20 Arizona State past San Francisco 75-57

In its first game as a nationally ranked team, Arizona State was not at its high-scoring best -- just plenty good enough to handle San Francisco and stay unbeaten.

Redshirt freshman Romello White scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead five Arizona State players in double figures and the 20th-ranked Sun Devils beat the Dons 75-57 on Saturday night.

Steve Alford 'surprised' to learn LiAngelo Ball was leaving UCLA

UCLA basketball coach Steve Alford said he was surprised Monday when he learned through various media reports that freshman LiAngelo Ball was leaving the program and withdrawing from school.

Ball was one of three freshmen suspended indefinitely after a shoplifting incident in China in November that became international news.

"I don't think it's angry. I think it was more, maybe, surprised," Alford said when asked for his reaction to the news. "If you're looking for one word, maybe it's surprised because it's nothing that we saw coming.

Arizona hangs on to beat No. 7 Texas A&M 67-6

Arizona faced one challenge on the road over the weekend and had an even bigger one on a neutral court.

The Wildcats pulled out tight wins against good teams in both, a sign that they may be back on track.

Deandre Ayton had 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Arizona held on to beat No. 7 Texas A&M 67-64 on Tuesday night.

Thybulle scores 19 as Washington stuns No. 2 Kansas, 74-65

First-year Washington coach Mike Hopkins saw how Kansas dissected Syracuse's vaunted 2/3 zone defense last week, so he made a couple tweaks to his own version before facing the Jayhawks on Wednesday night.

Primarily, Hopkins stretched the zone to take away the 3-pointer.

    It worked to perfection.

The Huskies frustrated the Jayhawks' dangerous lineup of deep threats, Matisse Thybulle hit five-pointers and scored 19 points, and Washington kept its poise down the stretch for a 74-65 victory that knocked No. 2 Kansas from the ranks of the unbeaten.

Holder leads No. 16 Arizona State to upset over No. 2 Kansas

Bobby Hurley is no stranger to college basketball lore. So when his Arizona State team travelled to Allen Fieldhouse to face Kansas on Sunday, the former Duke star knew what they were in for.

"No one really wins here," Hurley saidWell, the Sun Devils sure did. Tra Holder scored 29 points on 8-for-16 shooting, and No. 16 Arizona State upset No. 2 Kansas 95-85 on Sunday to improve to 9-0.. "You come in here, most of the time you're not leaving real happy."
