No. 21 Arizona routs Illinois 90-69 behind freshman trio

Nico Mannion dropped in floaters, got into the lane and whipped passes through traffic.

Josh Green drained 3-pointers, finished at the rim and played lockdown defense.

Zeke Nnaji bulled his way to the basket, knocked down midrange jumpers.

It's just the second game of the season, but Arizona's heralded freshman trio is playing as advertised.

Mannion scored 23 points, Green added 20 and Nnaji had 19 in No. 21 Arizona's 90-69 rout over Illinois on Sunday night.

Stewart leads No. 20 Washington past Mount St. Mary's 56-46

Coming off a marquee win to open the season, Washington spent the first 20 minutes looking unenthusiastic and sluggish.

What was expected to be an easy home opener before another big weekend showdown turned into a bigger fight than the Huskies expected.

Isaiah Stewart scored 16 points and blocked five shots, Nahziah Carter scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half, and No. 20 Washington overcame an awful first half offensively to pull away for a 56-46 win over Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday night.

No. 19 Arizona dominates San Jose State 87-39

Zeke Nnaji got everywhere he wanted and did everything he needed in another ultra-efficient performance.

Arizona had a similar effect on San Jose State's offense in the Wildcats' most lopsided win in four years.

Nnaji scored 26 points, made all eight of his shots and grabbed 11 rebounds, helping No. 19 Arizona rout San Jose State 87-39 on Thursday night.

No. 19 Arizona runs past short-handed New Mexico State 83-53

Arizona big man Zeke Nnaji is starting to get noticed around campus, coffee shops, almost everywhere he goes in Tucson.

The rest of the college basketball world is paying attention now, too. Not bad for a player who didn't get the same acclaim as freshman teammates Nico Mannion and Josh Green.

Zeke Nnaji did not miss a shot for the second straight game while scoring 19 points, Jemarl Baker added 16 points and No. 19 Arizona rolled over depleted New Mexico State 83-53 on Sunday.

No. 25 Washington rebounds from 1st loss, tops Maine 72-53

Another slow start from No. 25 Washington was quickly erased by a jolt from Nahziah Carter.

    Three of them, actually.

Carter's trio of highlight dunks midway through the first half sparked Washington's run to take control, and the Huskies pulled away for an easy 72-53 win over Maine on Tuesday night.

No. 14 Arizona pulls away late to beat South Dakota St 71-64

After making basketball look easy for the first four games of the season, Arizona’s star freshman trio of Nico Mannion, Zeke Nnaji and Josh Green wasn’t quite as dominant Thursday night.

But with about a minute left and the game still in doubt, the 6-foot-3 Mannion shook a defender, drove down the center of the lane and threw down a spectacular dunk over South Dakota State’s defense.

It might have been the lone moment of basketball beauty from the 14th-ranked Wildcats all night.

But it was enough for a hard-fought 71-64 victory over South Dakota State.

Stewart leads No. 25 Washington to 73-56 win over Montana

Young players have a long list of things to learn early in the season. Washington coach Mike Hopkins checked off a few items -- and probably added some -- after his team’s latest win.

Isaiah Stewart scored 18 points in just 15 minutes, Jayden McDaniels added 14 points and the 25th-ranked Huskies beat Montana 73-56 on Friday night.

No. 14 Arizona has big second half, beats Long Beach 104-67

Nico Mannion wasn’t worried even though Arizona was struggling in the first half for a second straight game. That’s because the Wildcats were working hard, making the extra pass and playing good defense.

Eventually, he said, the basketball gods would take notice.

Whether it was the supernatural or simply good shooting, he was right. No. 14 Arizona rallied with a huge second half to easily beat Long Beach State 104-67 on Sunday night for their sixth straight win to start the season.

Bey has double-double, No. 23 Colorado beats Wyoming 56-41

Colorado's Tyler Bey has always enjoyed returning to his hometown to play during the Pac 12 Tournament.

On Sunday night, the junior forward finally had a chance to shine early in the regular season.

Bey had 11 points and 19 rebounds to lead No. 23 Colorado past Wyoming 56-41.

No. 11 Oregon tops No. 13 Seton Hall 71-69 at Atlantis

Myles Powell and Seton Hall came roaring out of halftime with a torrid outside shooting display that left Oregon wobbled and facing a massive hole.

"Our guys were staggered, no doubt," Ducks coach Dana Altman said.

And yet, in a matchup of highly ranked teams to end the Battle 4 Atlantis' first day, the Ducks hung around long enough to slow Powell's one-man show, climb back in it and ultimately steal a wild win.

Shakur Juiston scored on a putback with 14.4 seconds left and No. 11 Oregon rallied from 19 points down in the second half to beat No. 13 Seton Hall 71-69 in Wednesday night's opening round.

Mannion’s layup gives No. 14 Arizona 93-91 win vs Pepperdine

There aren’t many freshmen who have the confidence this early in the season to drive the length of the floor for the game-winning shot. Fortunately for Arizona, it has one in Nico Mannion.

Mannion went coast to coast and made a running layup that banked in high off the glass with 4 seconds remaining to lift the 14th-ranked Wildcats to a 93-91 victory over Pepperdine on Thursday night at the Wooden Legacy.

Mannion leads No. 14 Arizona to 92-82 victory over Penn

Nico Mannion is continuing to make his case as one of the nation’s top freshmen during the first month of the season.

The Arizona point guard scored a season-high 24 points as the 14th-ranked Wildcats advanced to the championship game of the Wooden Legacy with a 92-82 victory over Penn on Friday night.

No. 14 Arizona beats Wake Forest for Wooden Legacy title

Arizona’s talented freshmen have led the way early, but on Sunday night in the Wooden Legacy championship game it was a pair of seniors who stood out for the 14th-ranked Wildcats.

Dylan Smith scored 20 points and Chase Jeter added 17 points and nine rebounds in a 73-66 victory over Wake Forest on Sunday night. It is Arizona’s first early season tournament title since 2014, when it won the Maui Invitational.
