California into 2K Classic final after beating No. 23 Syracuse

Cuonzo Martin wasn't around during California's troubles with Syracuse, though he knew all about it.

That's over now and the Golden Bears have their first big victory under their new coach.

Jordan Mathews scored 20 of his 22 points in the second half, and California routed the No. 23 Orange 73-59 on Thursday night to reach the championship game of the 2K Classic.

Kuzma scores 19, No. 25 Utah beats UC Riverside

Kyle Kuzma had been clanking shots in practice, unable to find his range.

Given a chance to play, the redshirt freshman couldn't miss.

Kuzma scored 19 points and Delon Wright had 13 to help No. 25 Utah beat UC Riverside 88-42 on Friday night.

Arizona holds Missouri to 36 percent shooting to win Maui opener

Slow starts and strong finishes are nothing new to Arizona. The Wildcats did it in three games on the mainland and started the Maui Invitational the same way.

They better get it fixed fast with the competition ramping up over the next two days.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Brandon Ashley each scored 15 points, helping No. 3 Arizona wear down Missouri for a 72-53 victory in the opening round of the Maui Invitational on Monday.

No. 3 Arizona turns back Kansas State in Maui Invitational semis

Arizona came to Maui to face adversity. There was some back in the desert through the first four games, though most of that was self-inflicted.

Faced with their first big challenge of the season, the third-ranked Wildcats went toe-to-toe with Kansas State and put themselves on the brink of a tournament title.

Kaleb Tarczewski scored 18 points, Gabe York added 15 and No. 3 Arizona hung on to win its first close game of the season, beating Kansas State 72-68 Tuesday in the Maui Invitational semifinals.

No. 3 Arizona edges out No. 15 SDSU for Maui Invitational title

-- Stanley Johnson had shown glimpses of his precocious talent during Arizona's first five games, occasionally showing up on the highlight reels with a soaring dunk or blocked shot.

Under the bright lights of a premiere tournament and a national television audience, the talented freshman stole the show.

Johnson played his best on one of college basketball's biggest early-season stages, scoring 18 points and grabbing nine rebounds to help No. 3 Arizona gut out a 61-59 victory over No. 15 San Diego State for its second Maui Invitational title Wednesday night.

No. 22 UCLA wins Bahamas finale, tops UAB 88-76

UCLA coach Steve Alford took his team on a long walk around the Atlantis resort Friday, letting his players see the sights of the Bahamas and think about something besides basketball.

The Bruins came away refreshed, and it showed.

Isaac Hamilton scored 21 points and UCLA salvaged one win out of its trip to the Bahamas by topping Alabama-Birmingham 88-76 in the seventh-place game at the Battle 4 Atlantis on Friday night.

No. 3 Wildcats roll 91-65 over Bulldogs

Arizona looked, at least for a few minutes, as if it had a Maui hangover or was possibly looking ahead to a big game this weekend.

Once the Wildcats got rolling, there was no stopping them -- and there was no doubt about their focus.

Stanley Johnson and Gabe York each scored 18 points, and No. 3 Arizona blitzed Gardner-Webb during a 16-0 second-half run to roll over the Bulldogs 91-65 Tuesday night in the Wildcats' first game since winning the Maui Invitational last week.

Utah pulls out OT win vs. No. 8 Wichita State, ending Shockers' streak

After weathering a late comeback by Wichita State, the Utah Utes recovered just in time to earn their biggest win in 15 years -- against a team that's not accustomed to losing.

Delon Wright hit a go-ahead jumper with 14 seconds left in overtime to boost No. 25 Utah over the eighth-ranked Shockers 69-68 on Wednesday night, snapping their regular-season winning streak at 35 games.

    Utes without Jordan Loveridge

Utah is expected to be without starting forward Jordan Loveridge for at least the next month.

Utes coach Larry Krystkowiak confirmed that the 6-foot-6 junior underwent knee surgery and would be out an extended period. Sources told ESPN.com that Loveridge will likely miss the next month and could be out even longer.

No. 3 Arizona rallies past No. 9 Gonzaga in OT

Arizona heard all week about Gonzaga, how the Bulldogs were a big and talented team that could end the Wildcats' long home winning streak.

The Wildcats took it as a challenge, stood toe-to-toe with the Zags and pulled out a big nonconference win.

T.J. McConnell scored six of his 12 points in overtime, and No. 3 Arizona held on for a 66-63 victory over No. 9 Gonzaga after Byron Wesley air-balled the first of three missed free throws with 3.3 seconds left on Saturday.

Washington knocks off No. 13 San Diego State 49-36

Lorenzo Romar and Washington are tired of being an afterthought. They want to return the Huskies to the Pac-12 elite and the national conversation.

Sunday night was a good start.

"We've had two years where we've been mediocre and guys don't want to be mediocre anymore," the coach said.

Nigel Williams-Goss scored 15 points, and Washington held No. 13 San Diego State to a school record for fewest points in the Huskies' 49-36 win.

Balanced No. 3 Arizona shuts down Utah Valley in blowout

Arizona's slow starts in games this season don't bother guard Elliott Pitts.

"We never take a game lightly," Pitts said. "It's all about how we finish, and we're undefeated right now."

The No. 3 Wildcats made Pitts' point by getting off to a slow start and then routing Utah Valley 87-56 on Tuesday night. Arizona trailed by three points in the first four minutes, but it didn't take long for the Wildcats to find another gear. Freshman Stanley Johnson led a balanced attack with 14 points, and the Wildcats cruised to victory.

Delon Wright leads No. 13 Utah past BYU, 65-61

Holding the nation's top-scoring team 33 points below its average helped offset a 7-minute scoring drought.

Outscored 20-6 to finish the first half, No. 13 Utah beat Brigham Young 65-61 on Wednesday night by holding the Cougars to a season-low 32 percent shooting in the second half.

No. 3 Arizona routs struggling Michigan for 28th straight home win

Arizona blotted out views of the rim, jumped into passing lanes, contested every shot and dribble. Nothing new there. The Wildcats have been doing that all season.

The difference against Michigan was the Wildcats got off to a fast start on offense and kept it rolling, turning a highly anticipated nonconference game into a rousing rout.

Playing its best all-around game of the season, No. 3 Arizona got the ball inside early and out in transition throughout the game to crush Michigan 80-53 on Saturday.

No. 17 Washington stays undefeated with late rally

Washington guards Nigel Williams-Goss and Darin Johnson made crucial 3-pointers Sunday night after struggling from outside this season.

No. 17 Washington trailed Eastern Washington much of the game, but Williams-Goss and Johnson hit 3-pointers on consecutive possessions in the final 1:16 to cap a big comeback in an 81-77 victory.

Stanley Johnson scores 18 in No. 3 Arizona's rout of Oakland

    - If No. 3 Arizona has had any problem so far this season, it's been getting off to a slow start.

For the second game in a row, that certainly wasn't the case.

Freshman Stanley Johnson matched his season high with 18 points, and the Wildcats wrapped up their nonconference home schedule with a 101-64 rout of Oakland on Tuesday night -- a blowout that follows their romp over Michigan on Saturday.

No. 16 Huskies rout Grambling State 86-38

In previous seasons when Washington was playing lesser competition and was clearly the more dominant side, coach Lorenzo Romar would invariably burn a timeout at some point to remind and refocus his team.

Romar never needed to call that timeout or give his players that reminder on Wednesday night as the 16th-ranked Huskies raced past Grambling State 86-38.

UTEP rallies in first half but No. 3 Arizona pulls away for the win

Arizona freshman Stanley Johnson wanted to know how he'd play in his first true road game. The answer was pretty good.

Johnson scored 15 points to help No. 3 Arizona survive a scare and pull away late for a 60-55 victory against UTEP on Friday night.
