No. 4 USC holds off W Michigan 49-31 with big 4th quarter

Sam Darnold's offense sputtered and misfired in the stifling 99-degree heat. The Southern California defense struggled to stop Western Michigan's running game.

Although a fourth-quarter flurry erased the Trojans' struggles on the scoreboard, they left with respect for the Broncos and determination to get better.

Ronald Jones II ran 37 yards for the tiebreaking touchdown with 6:57 to play Saturday, and No. 4 USC rallied from a second-half deficit for a 49-31 victory in both schools' opener.

Falk lifts No. 24 Washington St. over Montana St. 31-0

Washington State had lost its season opener the past two years to members of the FCS Big Sky Conference, but the 24th-ranked Cougars weren't going to let it happen a third time.

Luke Falk threw for 311 yards and three touchdowns, setting the school career touchdowns passing record, as Washington State beat Montana State 31-0 in the season opener for both teams on Saturday night.

Josh Rosen, UCLA Erase 34-Point Deficit to Shock Texas A&M 45-44

The Texas A&M Aggies were cruising to a season-opening win Sunday against the UCLA Bruins at the Rose Bowl.

    Until they weren't.

The Bruins earned a 45-44 victory in one of the wildest college football games in recent memory thanks to a 35-0 run that would seem unrealistic even on the basketball court. Texas A&M led 44-10 with less than five minutes remaining in the third quarter before UCLA scored the final five touchdowns of the contest to shock the SEC's Aggies and start the season with an improbable victory.

Aggies rough up Idaho State to end six-game losing streak

While it was smoky haze that lingered in the sky above Cache Valley prior to the start of Utah State’s home opener Thursday night, by the end of the first quarter, the Aggies were also leaving the Idaho State Bengals in the dust.

Utah State (1-1) racked up 596 total yards of offense on its way to a 51-13 rout of Idaho State (1-1), ending the Aggies' six-game losing streak that started with a loss to San Diego State on Oct. 28, 2016, and continued through last week’s 59-10 clobbering at Wisconsin

No. 6 USC routs No. 14 Stanford 42-24 for 11th straight win

Southern California ran the ball straight at Stanford in the opening series, and the Trojans never stopped. USC's defense dominated up front and largely stifled the Cardinal's vaunted running game.

The recent roles in this California private-school rivalry were completely flipped Saturday night, and the surging Trojans embraced the chance to be the victorious bullies.

"We beat them at their own game," USC safety Chris Hawkins said.

Steven Mitchell and Deontay Burnett caught two touchdown passes apiece from Sam Darnold, and No. 6 USC extended its winning streak to 11 games with a bruising 42-24 victory over No. 14 Stanford.

No. 7 Washington does as expected, rolls Montana 63-7

Dante Pettis couldn't adequately describe his latest punt return touchdown for No. 7 Washington that put him in the Pac-12 record book by himself.

A sprint to the right, a cutback to the left and a move on the punter that left Pettis unable to find the right words.

"I still don't really know what I did," Pettis said . "I just remember cutting back and making a little move on the punter; I don't even know what that move was. It was more like an avoidance than a juke or something."

Pettis weaved his way 67 yards for his Pac-12 record-breaking seventh career punt return touchdown, Jake Browning threw for 259 yards and two touchdowns, and Washington rolled past Montana 63-7 on Saturday night.

No. 20 Washington St beats Boise St 47-44 in 3 overtimes

Washington State coach Mike Leach was of two minds after Jamal Morrow caught a 22-yard pass and dove across the goal line in the third overtime to lift No. 20 Washington State to a 47-44 comeback victory over Boise State on Saturday night.

No. 4 USC rallies for double-overtime win over Texas, 27-24

Deep into the fourth quarter, Southern California and Texas played a defense-dominated, turnover-plagued game that had none of the poetry or flair of these powerhouse programs' last meeting in the 2006 Rose Bowl.

Then the offenses finally found their stride. Texas' freshman quarterback led a gutsy 91-yard touchdown march in the final minutes of regulation. USC answered with a desperate drive to force overtime.

By the time walk-on Chase McGrath hit a walk-off field goal, this famed matchup definitely had its mojo back.

Sam Darnold passed for 397 yards and three touchdowns, and USC's freshman kicker hit a 43-yard field goal to end the No. 4 Trojans' thrilling 27-24 victory over the Longhorns on Saturday night.

Pettis' 4 total TDs leads No. 6 Huskies past Fresno St 48-16

The undercard to Washington's schedule wrapped up as expected, with another one-sided romp and another night where Dante Pettis left the stadium buzzing.

Maybe it's finally time teams will start kicking away from Washington's record-setting punt returner.

"He's an awesome player. He really is," Fresno State coach Jeff Tedford said.

Pettis had four touchdowns, including an NCAA record-tying eighth punt return touchdown for his career, and No. 6 Washington finished off its lackluster nonconference slate with a 48-16 rout of Fresno State on Saturday night.

No. 23 Utah recovers late fumble to hold off Arizona

When Utah quarterback Tyler Huntley went down with a shoulder injury in the second quarter, the Utes had an experienced and reliable alternative ready.

Troy Williams, a senior who started 13 games last season, came on and guided the No. 23 Utes to a 30-24 victory over Arizona on Friday night in the Pac-12 opener for both schools.

No. 5 USC pulls away late for 30-20 win over California

Stephen Carr ran for a fourth-quarter touchdown two plays after Southern California's defense forced one of its six turnovers, and the fifth-ranked Trojans won their 13th straight game by pulling away late for a 30-20 victory over California on Saturday.

Pullman Party: No. 16 Washington State beats No. 5 USC 30-27

Mike Leach and his team were engulfed in a sea of crimson on the turf of Martin Stadium, reveling in a rare occurrence for Washington State football.

An upset victory 25 years in the making was worth celebrating in grand fashion. And, it proved that these Cougars are true contenders for a Pac-12 title.

"It's exciting. I'll enjoy it tonight. I'll probably enjoy it a little in the offseason," Leach said.

Luke Falk threw for 340 yards and two touchdowns, Erik Powell kicked a 32-yard field goal with 1:40 left and No. 16 Washington State beat No. 5 Southern California 30-27 on a wild Friday night.

No. 6 Washington overcomes slow start in 42-7 win over Beavers

Washington quarterback Jake Browning's performances against Oregon State are part of what will make his already standout career memorable.

Browning threw for three touchdowns, Myles Gaskin ran for 113 yards and a score and the No. 6 Huskies broke open a close game with a 21-point third quarter to beat Oregon State 42-7 on Saturday night.

No. 6 Washington continues dominance, routs California 38-7

As his freshman season has progressed, Washington's Hunter Bryant has been fed more information, more responsibilities and ultimately more opportunity.

The potential of the Huskies newest offensive weapon finally flashed on Saturday night.

"There's always that adjustment period where you're not sure. A player is really good in high school but something doesn't click," Washington quarterback Jake Browning said. "But it definitely clicks for him."

Bryant had nine catches for 121 yards and a touchdown, Browning threw for two scores and ran for another, and No. 6 Washington cruised to a 38-7 victory over California on Saturday night.
