No. 20 Stanford beats No. 9 Notre Dame 38-20

The game up in Seattle that impacted Stanford the most had been going well all night. That didn't matter to the Cardinal until they took over their own contest during a dizzying three-touchdown stretch in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter.

K.J. Costello threw two of his career-high four touchdown passes to start that scoring spree and 20th-ranked Stanford rallied for a 38-20 victory over No. 9 Notre Dame on Saturday night.

Purple Haze: Washington routs Washington State 41-14

Given the chance to ruin their rivals hopes at a conference championship, Washington did more than simply cost Washington State a chance at the Pac-12 North.

The Huskies reasserted that for the fifth straight season the Apple Cup would remain decorated in purple with yet another rout of the Cougars.

"We wanted to put our foot on their neck from when the game started and keep it rolling through the game," Washington safety Ezekiel Turner said.

Myles Gaskin ran for 192 yards and four touchdowns, Washington forced four turnovers, and the No. 15 Huskies ended No. 14 Washington State's hopes for a division title with a 41-14 thumping Saturday night.

Moss, Utah run past West Virginia 30-14 in Heart of Dallas

Zack Moss took a third-down handoff and burst through the line into an opening in the middle of the field. Utah was off and running to another bowl victory.

Moss ran for 150 yards, including a career-long 58-yard run for a touchdown on the Utes' opening drive in the Heart of Dallas Bowl as they went on to a 30-14 win over West Virginia on Tuesday. Utah is now 11-1 in postseason games under Kyle Whittingham, who matched Alabama's Nick Saban for the most bowl wins by an active coach.

New Mexico State beats Utah State 26-20 in Arizona Bowl

The Arizona Bowl is not typically the type of game where fans storm the field. Certainly not for a team that finished 7-6.

But this has been a long, arduous wait for New Mexico State fans. All those losing seasons, all that disappointment, all that time between bowl games.

Storm away, Aggies. You've earned it.

Larry Rose III scored on a 21-yard run in overtime and New Mexico State won in its first bowl game in 57 years, beating Utah State 26-20 in the Arizona Bowl on Friday night.

No. 13 Stanford beats San Diego St. 31-10 in season opener

Stanford knows defenses are going to do whatever it takes to slow down Bryce Love after his record-setting 2017 season.

Being able to take advantage of that with the deep passing game will be key to the Cardinal's success this year.

JJ Arcega-Whiteside did just that, getting loose for three long TD catches from K.J. Costello to overcome a slow night by Love and No. 13 Stanford opened the season with a 31-10 victory over San Diego State on Friday.

Daniels, No. 15 USC shake off slow start to beat UNLV 43-21

JT Daniels, the second freshman to start at quarterback in a season opener for Southern California, threw for 282 yards with a 43-yard touchdown pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown to lead the No. 15 Trojans to a 43-21 victory over UNLV on Saturday.

Defense keys California's 24-17 win over North Carolina

Rotating three quarterbacks had mixed results for California in its season-opening win over North Carolina.

The Golden Bears defense that forced four interceptions and only allowed a field goal through three quarters more than made up for it.

Patrick Laird rushed for one touchdown and caught another, Cal's defense took advantage of a rocky outing from North Carolina quarterback Nathan Elliott, and the Bears held off the Tar Heels 24-17 on Saturday.

Arizona State rallies to beat No. 15 Michigan State 16-13

Arizona State kicked off the Herm Edwards era with a blowout of UTSA. Beating a school from a smaller conference could be expected.

Rallying from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter against the nation's No. 15 team? Now that's a statement.

Brandon Ruiz kicked a 28-yard field goal as time expired and the Sun Devils notched a marquee win early in Edwards' tenure, knocking off No. 15 Michigan State 16-13 on Saturday night.

Love leads No. 10 Stanford past No. 17 USC 17-3

With Bryce Love and the key parts of Stanford's offense back, the Cardinal figured to be dynamic on that side of the ball.

Two games into the season, the defense showed it's capable of leading the way, as well.

Joey Alfieri and crew helped harass talented freshman quarterback JT Daniels into four sacks and three turnovers and the 10th-ranked Cardinal held No. 17 Southern California to its fewest points in more than two decades in a 17-3 victory Saturday night.

Garbers passes for 3 TDs in Cal's 45-23 win over Idaho State

California's offense got off to a slow start and the defense struggled to finish for a third straight game. Three big plays by Ashtyn Davis in between helped tilt things in the Golden Bears' favor.

Davis scored on an 89-yard kickoff return, made his second interception of the season to set up another score, then chased down a receiver from behind to prevent a touchdown as Cal overcame a sluggish start and beat FCS-level Idaho State 45-23 on Saturday.
