Chris Petersen's Washington crushes his former Boise State team in his final game

The Las Vegas Bowl was always going to be about Chris Petersen. It was his final game as coach, a matchup the two programs he led to such great heights in Washington and Boise State

It could have been his moment, but the humble Petersen went out of his way to share his last spotlight after a successful finale.

Jacob Eason threw for 210 yards and a touchdown, Elijah Molden was named MVP after intercepting a pass and forcing a fumble, and the Huskies sent out Petersen with a 38-7 victory over No. 18 Broncos on Saturday night.

Garbers big day leads Cal past Illinois in Redbox Bowl

As a freshman a year ago, Chase Garbers was benched at halftime for ineffectiveness during his first trip to a bowl game. The California quarterback made his second appearance in the postseason much more memorable for both himself and the Golden Bears.

Garbers threw four touchdown passes and ran for another score, leading California to a 35-20 win over Illinois on Monday in the Redbox Bowl.

Arizona State defeats Florida State 20-16 in Sun Bowl

With each team missing its standout rusher, defense dominated at Tuesday's Sun Bowl. Hardly pretty, but hardly a concern for Arizona State coach Herm Edwards.

"Obviously it was a game not pleasing to the eye," he said.

Willie Harts returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to lead Arizona State to a 20-14 victory against Florida State. Harts, a freshman cornerback, halted a 14-0 surge by Florida State (6-7) and helped the Sun Devils (8-5) hang on for their fourth Sun Bowl victory, despite not scoring an offensive touchdown.

Pac-12 football may be back, but not all the revenue will be

The return of football isn’t likely to make a dramatic dent in the losses athletic departments across the Pac-12 will ultimately incur because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Faced with large budget shortfalls, most schools in the league have already resorted to layoffs, furloughs, and cutting some sports entirely.

At Utah, football coach Kyle Whittingham and basketball coach Larry Krystkowiak took salary cuts to help offset up to $60 million in projected losses. Athletic director Mark Harlan said the Utes are still dealing with “significant financial challenges.”

Broussard, Colorado beat UCLA 48-42 to begin Dorrell Era

Colorado running back Jarek Broussard reacts after rushing for a touchdown
against UCLA in the first half of an NCAA college football game Saturday,
Nov. 7, 2020, in Boulder, Colo.

The emotions radiating from Karl Dorrell weren’t for his first win as head coach at Colorado.

It was for the performance of tailback Jarek Broussard, who didn’t play last season due to a knee injury. And that of QB Sam Noyer, who left the program before being re-recruited by the new coaching staff. And for all his players, really.

Broussard scored three times in his first start, Colorado’s defense produced two big fourth-down stops in the final quarter and the Buffaloes opened the Dorrell Era by holding off UCLA 48-42 on Saturday night

No. 20 USC rallies from 13 down late, stuns ASU 28-27

Southern California wide receiver Bru McCoy (4) catches a deflected pass in the
end zone for a touchdown against Arizona State during the second half of an
NCAA college football game Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020, in Los Angeles

In the final three minutes of a game that began with Southern California’s earliest kickoff in decades, the Trojans finally did a few things worth getting up early to see.

And a couple that had to be seen to be believed.

Drake London caught a 21-yard touchdown pass with 1:20 to play, and USC rallied from a late 13-point deficit for a 28-27 victory over Arizona State on Saturday in the Pac-12′s long-delayed season opener.

No. 20 USC rallies again to beat Arizona 34-30 on late TD

Southern California wide receiver Drake London (15) dives for the ball in the
first half of an NCAA college football game against Arizona, Saturday, Nov. 14,
    2020, in Tucson, Ariz.

Southern California had too many penalties, struggled in the red zone and found itself in a late hole for the second straight week.

The Trojans rallied to win a week ago and did it again with another pair of late scoring drives.

Resiliency has been the theme so far for USC in this pandemic-shortened season.

Vavae Malepeai bulled his way through multiple tacklers for an 8-yard touchdown run with 25 seconds left, and No. 20 USC beat Arizona 34-30 on Saturday.

The great Southern California teams were known for their confidence. On the road against Utah, these Trojans took another step toward restoring the program’s past glory.

“We played with a swagger tonight, especially on defense,” coach Clay Helton said.

Kedon Slovis threw for two touchdowns and No. 20 USC smothered Utah in a 33-17 victory Saturday.

Jones has 2 TD runs, Stanford tops No. 23 Washington 31-26

First, Stanford was booted from its home, forced to relocate to the Pacific Northwest to continue its season.

Then when the Cardinal tried to have their pregame walkthrough in a parking garage, they got kicked out again and relocated to a park.

When it came time to finally play their game against No. 23 Washington on Saturday, the Cardinal had been through a week unlike any they’ve experienced.

“It’s been kind of been the mantra the entire week,” Stanford coach David Shaw said. “No matter what happens, if you have a great attitude, let’s do it. Let’s work with enthusiasm and do it to the best of our ability.”

The vagabond Cardinal showed no issues from their relocation, jumping to a 24-3 halftime lead and holding off Washington’s second-half rally for a 31-26 win.

The mother of UCLA quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson echoed the thoughts of many Bruins fans during the first half of Saturday's game against Hawaii after Zach Charbonnet scored his third touchdown.

No. 25 Arizona State opens with 41-14 win over Southern Utah

Arizona State's defense created turnovers, the offense churned out touchdowns on the ground.

Everything else? Still needs some work.

Darien Butler had two interceptions and No. 25 Arizona State used its punishing run game to overcome some sloppy moments in a season-opening 41-14 win over Southern Utah on Thursday night.

London, defense carry No. 15 USC past San Jose St. 30-7

Drake London racked up some incredible receiving numbers when Southern California's offense was on the field.

When San Jose State had the ball, the Trojans' defense often looked impenetrable.

Yet No. 15 USC's lead was still stuck in the single digits until a fourth-quarter surge rewarded the Trojans with a suitable margin of season-opening victory.

McKee leads Stanford's 42-28 upset rout of No. 14 USC

After Nathaniel Peat broke a tackle and turned the corner, the Coliseum collectively gasped as the speedy Stanford tailback sprinted all the way down his sideline.

“I just saw green grass, and I had to put the wheels on,” Peat said with a grin.

When he finally stopped, his 87-yard touchdown run had given the Cardinal a whole lot more than their first seven points in an impressive 42-28 upset of No. 14 Southern California on Saturday night.
