Oregon crushes Texas in Mack Brown's finale, wins Alamo Bowl

No. 10 Oregon first felt overlooked by the BCS, and then came to the Alamo Bowl overshadowed by Mack Brown's final game at Texas.

But the Ducks are flying home with an attention-getting blowout.

Quarterback Marcus Mariota had 386 total yards and Oregon returned two interceptions for touchdowns, spoiling Brown's emotional farewell after 16 seasons at Texas with a runaway 30-7 victory Monday night.

    Chris Wilson jumps to USC

Georgia's Chris Wilson will take over as USC's defensive line coach, sources told ESPN's Joe Schad.

Wilson spent the 2013 season in the same position with the Bulldogs and previously was defensive coordinator at Mississippi State. He began his coaching career in 1993 at Indiana State with additional stops at Northern Illinois, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Illinois State, Army, Colorado and Oklahoma.

Wilson steps in to replace Bo Davis, who accepted the same position at Alabama just one week after being introduced at USC. Davis told USC head coach Steve Sarkisian that he was leaving for family reasons.

Lance Anderson to run Stanford D

Stanford has promoted outside linebackers coach Lance Anderson to defensive coordinator, the school announced Friday.

The move had been rumored for days following the departure of Derek Mason, who accepted the head coaching position at Vanderbilt last week.

"Lance has worked under two of the best defensive minds in football in Vic Fangio and Derek Mason," Stanford coach David Shaw said in a statement. "He will continue our defensive tradition of being aggressive, being physical and setting the tone for how we play football here at Stanford University."

    Washington suspends two players

New Washington coach Chris Petersen has suspended quarterback Cyler Miles and wide receiver Damore'ea Stringfellow indefinitely for violating team rules, the school announced Thursday.

Seattle television station KIRO 7 reported Wednesday that Stringfellow and another unidentified player were involved in an altercation following the Seattle Seahawks' Super Bowl victory. According to the police report, obtained by KIRO 7, two Washington players assaulted a man with "multiple punches" to his "left eye, chin and cheek."

The KIRO 7 report does not specifically name Miles.

Ted Agu collapses, dies at 21

California football player Ted Agu died Friday after collapsing during a training run with his teammates. He was 21.

"This is one of those tragedies that no one can understand and comprehend," an emotional coach Sonny Dykes said at a news conference.

"Ted was a very special young man. As a coach, you have the opportunity to be around a lot of special kids day in and day out. He was a special young man. He just had a passion and energy for life that's contagious. He will be deeply missed. Our players loved him dearly and he was a big part of our family."

Oregon State has hired John Garrett as offensive coordinator, the school announced Tuesday.

Garrett spent the 2013 season as the wide receivers coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the previous six seasons on the staff of the Dallas Cowboys, who are coached by his brother, Jason Garrett.

"I'm excited to be joining the coaching staff at Oregon State University," Garrett said in a statement. "I have tremendous respect for what Coach [Mike] Riley, his staff and players have accomplished over the years and I look forward to being part of the program's continued success. QB Cyler Miles still suspended

Washington head coach Chris Petersen will begin his first spring practices with the Huskies without quarterback Cyler Miles, the backup to Keith Price last season.

Petersen suspended Miles and wide receiver Damore'ea Stringfellow indefinitely in February for an undisclosed violation of team rules. Miles and Stringfellow remain part of Washington's roster but Petersen said Monday there is nothing new on their status with the team.

"There has been no talk of those guys. They haven't been here. We've moved on and we're going. It's not about those guys. It's about the guys in the room," Petersen said. "We'll just let that play out and see how it goes."

Cyler Miles suspended for UW opener

Washington quarterback Cyler Miles has been suspended for the team's season opener against Hawaii for his role in a fight last winter.

Miles' involvement in an altercation after the Super Bowl led to a suspension that kept him sidelined for all of spring practice. Miles was not charged, and he was reinstated by coach Chris Petersen on May 14.

"I think we took some pretty hard action when things were still being decided," Petersen said Thursday at Pac-12 Media Days. "He didn't do anything with us football-wise [during the spring]. You have a brand-new staff teaching this, and you take a guy out and give him nothing at that position -- it's pretty tough.

    Tyler Johnstone out for season

Oregon Ducks left tackle Tyler Johnstone will miss the 2014 season after re-tearing his ACL on Monday morning in the Ducks' first practice of their first two-a-days of fall camp.

Johnstone suffered the initial injury in the Valero Alamo Bowl last December and spent most of the spring season abstaining from contact in order to help his recovery.

Coaches were optimistic about his progress and an offensive line that returned five starters.
