Dude I have no problem if we are middle of the pack this year with our young guys. If you're middle of the pack with young potential guys that's fine. It's when you bring in older expensive vets and end up middle of the pack that it's doomsday.

If we stay as is and suck, cool, we get a top lotto pick to try and improve us.

If our young guys step up, cool, we have a ton of decent young assets to try to upgrade with

Okay, fair enough. I think just about everyone feels that. I see what you mean then. Bring in Rudy, remain middle of the pack, and then we aren't looking as hot for the future.
I think there are some though that think its imperative for us to shoot for the lottery next year and I disagree with that. IF we get the lottery, it will be because no one stepped up and thus need to move on anyhow, so then the pick is good.

Yes, basically everybody but the team he ended up on would welcome it.

Apparently unless you are the USA world cup team who liked him enough last year to invite him back again this year.

USA world cup team is simply a bracket. It is not signing a contract for a player. Apples to oranges ...

I think it is relevant to the post I was responding to. If he didn't play well last last year with the other stars in the NBA, they would not have asked him to try out again. If he can help Team USA, I think he can help Team Blazers.

I get that he is not a perfect fit for our younger players due to his age. But he does possess the skills that this team lacks. He is a scorer who can take over games. He and Aminu would be a great combo at the 3..........imo.

Again I would not trade away our future for him. But we have plenty of cap space and we need scoring from the 3. Maybe I am missing something. Is he a cancer in the locker room? If he is then he would not be worth the trouble. But I have not heard that.

You get Rudy Gay if you can get another high caliber somewhere else.

You are saying he has to be surrounded by more high caliber players in order to be effective? I posted the same thing last month, so I guess I have to agree. That is the ideal situation for him.

Carmelo took the Nuggets to the WCF and came within 2 wins of the NBA Finals.

Do you really want ANOTHER young guy? We need to develop who we have.

I agree, The problem is the past teams Rudy Gay has played for he's been in the franchise player role and he's obviously not that type of player.
And if Nic Batum and Rudy Gay switched careers you would be saying the same thing about Nic Batum.

Arguing to argue. Just silly. Melo is an organizational cancer

    Billups, Iverson, Nene.

Melo was 4th out of 5 starters in win shares

    What a leader.

Having a teams cast off young guy and having an elite young guy that has massive value around the league are two different things

Partially. Having just him doesnt make us a playoff team though. So there'd be no point. But him and another high caliber player and we would be.

I think we could be a playoff team with him. But if we aren't, than we keep our pick.
Not much downside. We are in no worse position than before, unless you think we would have been bad enough without him to make a run for the top pick. But I don't think we are that bad.

Or unless you think the extra cap space is going to make a difference.......
    Again I don't

Certain players seem to work better in international competitions. Remember that Kenneth Faried was by rights the MVP of the US team, and now the Nuggets would be happy to unload him. Rudy Gay would be AWESOME in China.

I'm sorry, but that's just crazy.

Crazy is a bit strong. You got 6 locks in GS, Houston, SA, Memphis, Clippers, and OKC, plus I will give you N.O.

But what other team is so good that the Blazers plus Rudy Gay, could not compete for that last spot? Not saying we would be a lock, but it certainly is not a crazy possibility.
