Lew Wolff is a fucking liar, pardon my language. He played Oakland and Fremont against each other for years. Oakland is not a small market and the A's packed the stadium for a long time. Then ownership dumps every young player when he starts to become a star, or even a fan favorite (not necessarily the same thing). They increase ticket prices. Until last year you only needed a minimum of 20 games for a season ticket package, then they upped it to 25. Took away season ticket holder perks. Treat fans like crap. Then complain about how they are not drawing enough people and need to move the team. Now they are looking at San Jose and are using Portland as leverage. That on top of ripping up the Coliseum, at taxpayer expense, to turn it into a football stadium for the pathetic Raiders. I've had season tix since 1991. I almost did not renew last year but they talked me into it. I called with my order and that's when they sprung on me I now needed 25 games. It's impossible for me to go weeknights. I ended up eating a lot of tickets. This year they called again and I said I decided not to renew for reasons stated. The man said he would send me his card and that they might be able to accommodate me with fewer games so I would not waste so many tickets. The very next day the Wolff calls a news conference and says he definitely will not keep the team in Oakland, so I wrote the man who called me that they clearly no longer need my support. The problem with Oakland is not that it's too small, the owners just don't want to be part of a town that is blue collar and proud of it. They want to build a yuppie arena with upscale restaurants and shopping malls. I don't go to a baseball game to go shopping, I go to see a game. Hopefully a good home team.
