"The way this sort of got spun, it was a little bit more like, 'OK, he got a new contract at Alabama, so he's going to stay at Alabama instead of going to Texas,'" Saban told ESPN.com on Saturday. Anthony Steen has surgery Anthony Steen's career at Alabama is likely over, as the offensive lineman is expected to miss the Allstate Sugar Bowl after having surgery to repair a torn labrum, according to CBSSports.com. Steen, a guard, was the only senior starting on the Crimson Tide's offensive line this season as Alabama averaged 212 rushing yards per game. It also has guarded quarterback AJ McCarron to the tune of just 10 sacks, down from 23 last season. "Anthony's played really, really well for us all year long," Tide coach Nick Saban said of Steen in mid-November. "He's been really consistent in his performance. Austyn Carta-Samuels has surgery Vanderbilt quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels will not play in the BBVA Compass Bowl on Jan. 4 after having surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee. Coach James Franklin said Monday that Carta-Samuels tore his ACL in a win Oct. 19 over Georgia and had surgery to repair his knee shortly after the regular season ended Nov. 30. "That guy made the ultimate commitment to his team," Franklin said. Carta-Samuels was on crutches after getting hurt in the first half of a 31-27 upset of Georgia. He missed a loss at Texas A&M and was dressed on the sideline for the Commodores' win at Florida -- their first since 1945. Claiborne was arrested Sunday on charges of possession of a dangerous drug and possession of less than two ounces of marijuana, according to the Brazos County Jail website.
