Bo Wallace helps Ole Miss pull away from Boise State

For much of the night, it was tough to watch. Mississippi hardly looked like the 18th-ranked team in the country. Boise State in no way resembled the program that used to beat the big boys with such regularity.

The Rebels finally came around in the fourth quarter, pulling away to beat Boise State 35-13 in a sloppy season opener Thursday.

    Rashard Robinson suspended

LSU cornerback Rashard Robinson and wide receiver Malachi Dupre will not play in Saturday's opener against No.14 Wisconsin, according to multiple media reports.

LSU's student newspaper, The Daily Reveille, first reported Friday that Robinson -- who is listed as a starting cornerback -- did not travel with the No. 13 Tigers to Houston for the game. The Baton Rouge Advocate later reported that Robinson is suspended for the game and that Dupre sprained his ankle in practice and also would not play.

Jeremy Johnson opens, Nick Marshall closes as Auburn soars late

The Auburn offense didn't slow down a bit, even with Nick Marshall a spectator for half the game.

Jeremy Johnson passed for 243 yards and two touchdowns in the first half and Marshall returned from suspension with a 19-yard scoring run to lift No. 6 Auburn to a 45-21 opening victory over Arkansas on Saturday. Plus, Cameron Artis-Payne and junior college transfer D'haquille Williams had huge games.

Todd Gurley gains Georgia-record 293 all-purpose yards in 45-21 rout

Todd Gurley felt strong and healthy.

    Boy, did it show.

In a performance that will surely cast him as an early favorite for the Heisman Trophy, Gurley scored four touchdowns and set a school record with 293 all-purpose yards, leading No. 12 Georgia to a 45-21 victory over No. 16 Clemson on Saturday night.

Kenny Hilliard leads No. 13 LSU's comeback win over Badgers

Down 10 to Wisconsin already, LSU started the second half with a delay of game penalty on the opening kickoff. On the Badgers' first play from scrimmage, Melvin Gordon sprinted 63 yards up the middle to set up another touchdown.

Not a good start. But the Tigers still found the right way to finish.

Kenny Hilliard scored on a 28-yard touchdown run to cap a fourth-quarter rally for No. 13 LSU in a 28-24 win over No. 14 Wisconsin at NRG Stadium on Saturday night.

Maty Mauk threw for 178 yards and three touchdowns to lead No. 24 Missouri past South Dakota State 38-18 in the season opener for both teams Saturday.

No. 5 Auburn overwhelms San Jose State 59-13

With Tre Mason beginning his NFL career, Cameron Artis-Payne is thriving in his new role as Auburn's go-to running back.

Artis-Payne ran for three touchdowns, all in the first half, and No. 5 Auburn used a dominant ground game to beat San Jose State 59-13 on Saturday night.

No. 12 LSU overwhelms Sam Houston State, 56-0

Anthony Jennings to Travin Dural. Get used to it.

The combination produced three first-half touchdowns -- including a 94-yarder on LSU's first offensive play -- and the 12th-ranked Tigers overwhelmed Sam Houston State 56-0 on Saturday night.

Bo Wallace, No. 15 Mississippi rout Vanderbilt in SEC opener

With the exception of that first half against Boise State, Mississippi coach Hugh Freeze is very happy with how his Rebels have started this season.

Bo Wallace threw for 320 yards and a touchdown, and 15th-ranked Mississippi routed Vanderbilt 41-3 on Saturday in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams.

No. 21 South Carolina beats Pirates 33-23

Steve Spurrier was much happier about South Carolina's improved performance than about his lastest career milestone.

The 21st-ranked Gamecocks bounced back from an embarrassing opening-week loss to Texas A&M with a 33-23 victory over East Carolina on Saturday night. Mike Davis rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns, the offensive line controlled things during a fourth-quarter drive of nearly 11 minutes and the defensive forced a pair of turnovers and blocked a field goal -- all which Spurrier considered far more important than his 200th career win as a Southeastern Conference coach.

Maty Mauk, No. 24 Missouri rout Toledo

Maty Mauk was sharp for most of the day -- and when he did make a big mistake in the first half, receiver Bud Sasser was there to bail him out.

Sasser hustled back and forced a fumble after Mauk threw an interception in the first quarter, and No. 24 Missouri had a fairly easy time after that in a 49-24 victory over Toledo on Saturday. Sasser also caught a touchdown pass in the third quarter, helping coach Gary Pinkel to a win against his former program.

South Carolina prevails behind Dylan Thompson, late goal-line stand

No. 24 South Carolina's defense showed it's not nearly as bad as it looked two weeks ago -- and maybe that No. 6 Georgia isn't the runaway favorite in the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division.

The Gamecocks (2-1, 1-1 SEC), faced with a 1st-and-goal on their 4-yard line, held the powerhouse Bulldogs out of the end zone to preserve a 38-35 victory on Saturday night. It was an unexpected look from a unit that lost No. 1 NFL draft pick Jadeveon Clowney from last year and was shredded by No. 7 Texas A&M in its opening game on Aug. 28.

Mississippi routs Louisiana-Lafayette behind Bo Wallace's 4 TD passes

Bo Wallace's first throw was perfect -- a 25-yard strike that Vince Sanders caught in stride for a big gain.

Mississippi's senior quarterback was just getting started, completing pass after pass for big chunks of yards and two touchdowns. By early in the second quarter, he was well aware he was throwing football's version of a perfect game.

"I knew it," Wallace said. "I didn't want to throw an incompletion."

He finally did. His 15th attempt of the game down the middle of the field was just out of the reach of Derrick Jones, but the 14th-ranked Rebels were already well on their way to a 56-15 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday.

No. 10 LSU shuts out ULM, 31-0

LSU's Darrel Williams didn't remotely generate the recruiting hype of fellow freshman running back Leonard Fournette.

For now, though, Williams is producing more points for the 10th-ranked Tigers.

Williams ran for two touchdowns, Fournette added a score of his own, and LSU posted its second-straight shutout, 31-0 over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday night.

Maty Mauk throws 4 TDs, leads No. 20 Missouri past Central Florida

Maty Mauk says he likes to think aggressively on the field.

For another week, it paid off.

Missouri's sophomore quarterback threw four touchdown passes -- two each to Jimmie Hunt and Bud Sasser -- and passed for 144 yards to lead the 20th-ranked Tigers past Central Florida 38-10 on Saturday.

Nick Marshall-led Auburn fends off Jake Waters, Kansas State

Gus Malzahn squeezed into the ramshackle shed used for postgame news conferences at Kansas State, gripped both sides of the makeshift podium and exhaled deeply.

Fifth-ranked Auburn had just squeezed out a 20-14 victory over the No. 20 Wildcats, and its coach was asked whether it was the kind of nip-and-tuck nonconference game that he likes to play.
