    Donovan feels for Will Muschamp

Billy Donovan threw his support behind embattled Florida football coach Will Muschamp and said that his colleague has been focused on trying to turn around the downtrodden Gators program.

Donovan, a two-time national champion with the Gators and the SEC's longest-tenured men's basketball coach, said he is well aware of the pressures Muschamp has experienced after winning only four games last year, starting 3-3 this season and now hearing continual calls for his job.

"Certainly coming toward the end before [Urban Meyer] left, I think Will walked into a very challenging situation. I think everybody knew that," said Donovan, who appeared Friday on the ESPNU College Basketball podcast with Andy Katz and Seth Greenberg. "I think he built in a style of play his first year, and I think he saw a huge jump in his second year. Last year what happened, and I give Will a lot of credit, I don't think enough people have talked about this, people look at their record a year ago and how difficult and challenging it was. As a head coach, he never, ever made one excuse for his players or for himself with the amount of injuries they had. It was totally impossible to overcome the level and the talent of the players that he had.

Nick Marshall, No. 5 Auburn survive scare from South Carolina

Visor-wearing innovators Steve Spurrier and Gus Malzahn engaged in a chess match. South Carolina's Dylan Thompson and No. 5 Auburn's Nick Marshall swapped big plays.

The two compelling duels weren't settled until the final play in the Tigers' 42-35 victory over Spurrier's gambling Gamecocks on Saturday night.

Bo Wallace picked late as No. 3 Ole Miss falls to No. 24 LSU

Bo Wallace wasn't about to play it safe -- not even in Death Valley. The bold but risky decision ended any hope No. 3 Mississippi may have had about its first unblemished record in more than half a century.

Wallace's pass was intercepted by LSU safety Ronald Martin at the 1 with 2 seconds left, and the Rebels fell 10-7 to the 24th-ranked Tigers on Saturday night.

Dak Prescott (3 TDs), No. 1 Mississippi State knock off Kentucky

Mississippi State's recent slugfests with Kentucky have taught the Bulldogs that there's no such thing as a safe lead against the Wildcats.

And thanks to timely touchdowns by Dak Prescott, Josh Robinson and Christian Holmes, the nation's top-ranked team built a cushion culminating in another hard-earned victory over the Wildcats.

Prescott accounted for three touchdowns, Robinson rushed for two TDs and No. 1 Mississippi State (7-0, 4-0 Southeastern Conference) held on to beat Kentucky 45-31 on Saturday.

    Denzel Nkemdiche done for season

Ole Miss redshirt junior linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a broken ankle in Saturday's 10-7 loss at LSU.

Coach Hugh Freeze confirmed Nkemdiche's injury to ESPN.com and said that Nkemdiche underwent ankle surgery Sunday.

Nkemdiche, who had recorded 28 tackles and a sack in seven games this season, injured his ankle in the first quarter of Saturday's game and did not return. He was seen wearing a walking boot in the second half of the game.

The former freshman All-American and two-time All-SEC second-team member has 145 total tackles and four sacks during his career.

    NCAA denies UGA's Gurley appeal

The NCAA announced Thursday night that its Division I Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee has upheld Georgia running back Todd Gurley's four-game suspension, meaning he'll miss the Bulldogs' next two games after sitting out the previous two.

Georgia officials appealed the ruling earlier this week after the NCAA had said that Gurley would have to sit out 30 percent of his team's competition, or four games, for accepting $3,000 to autograph memorabilia for multiple dealers over the past two years.

Gurley, who was a leading Heisman Trophy candidate before the suspension, will miss Georgia's game against Florida in Jacksonville, Florida and next week's game at Kentucky.

    Skai Moore out against Volunteers

South Carolina's leading tackler Skai Moore won't play against Tennessee because of an ankle injury.

Gamecocks defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward said Thursday that sophomore linebacker Moore would miss the game with the Vols (3-5, 0-4 Southeastern Conference) on Saturday night. Moore was the team's top tackler a year ago as a freshman and was leading the Gamecocks (4-4, 2-4) with 51 stops this season.

Dak Prescott's career-high 331 yards lead Mississippi St. past Arkansas

Scrambling to his left with two Arkansas defenders in pursuit, Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott was in serious trouble.

A few seconds later, what looked like a broken play turned into a 69-yard touchdown heave to a wide open Fred Ross, and the top-ranked Bulldogs had their go-ahead touchdown in a 17-10 victory over Arkansas on Saturday night.

Auburn prevails after Ole Miss' Laquon Treadwell's injury, fumble late

Cassanova McKinzy won the scramble for the ball, and Auburn emerged from a playoff pileup to survive and advance.

McKinzy recovered a fumble in the end zone to preserve the third-ranked Tigers' 35-31 victory over No. 4 Mississippi on Saturday night in what amounted to the first College Football Playoff knockout game.

Florida rushes for 418 yards as Will Muschamp gets win over Georgia

Florida coach Will Muschamp reached over his shoulder and said "let me lift this thing off my back."

He probably should have used both hands.

After all, this was a big win and an even bigger relief for Muschamp and the Gators.

Matt Jones and Kelvin Taylor combined for 389 yards rushing and four touchdowns and Florida upset Georgia (No. 11 CFP, No. 9 AP) 38-20 Saturday, ending a three-game losing streak in the series and quite possibly saving Muschamp's job.

Dak Prescott powers No. 1 Mississippi State to rout of UT Martin

    - Dak Prescott stepped up in the pocket and then pulled the ball down, accelerating through the left side of the line and darting down the sideline for an easy 48-yard touchdown run.

It was one of several highlights for No. 1 Mississippi State in a 45-16 victory over Tennessee-Martin on Saturday at Davis Wade Stadium.

Texas A&M capitalizes on late fumbles, upsets No. 3 Auburn

Twice the ball didn't bounce Auburn's way like it has so often.

In a 41-38 upset on Saturday, Texas A&M pulled off some of the late-game magic that the third-ranked Tigers have made their trademark.

Mississippi blanks Presbyterian to snap two-game losing skid

Shortly after a pair of heartbreaking losses that tarnished a 7-0 start and a No. 3 ranking in the poll, Mississippi head coach Hugh Freeze made a promise to himself and his Rebels.

"I promised to stay the course and not be discouraged," Freeze said. "So, I'm happy to have eight wins and be sitting where we are. It's a happy locker room today."

Ole Miss (8-2, 4-2 SEC West) appeared to be emotionally healthy in a 48-0 win over Presbyterian College on Saturday. The Rebels (No. 11 CFP, No. 12 AP) ran up 640 yards of total offense, highlighted by Bo Wallace, who threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, exclusively in the first half.

Georgia rebounds with rout using Hutson Mason's career day

Considering the hard work Georgia put in this week, senior quarterback Hutson Mason wasn't shocked that touchdown passes came so easily against Kentucky.

More notable for the Bulldogs (No. 20 CFP, No. 17 AP) was the frequency of those scores.

Mason threw a career-best four touchdown passes, Nick Chubb rushed for 170 yards and a TD and Georgia steamrolled Kentucky 63-31 on Saturday.

    WR D'haquille Williams likely out

Wide receiver D'haquille "Duke" Williams has not yet been ruled out for Saturday's game at Georgia, but Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said Tuesday that a return this weekend is unlikely.

"He's week-to-week right now," Malzahn said. "We'll see how he progresses."

Williams injured his right knee in the second quarter of Saturday's game against Texas A&M. The specifics of the injury have not been released, but AL.com reported that the junior receiver sprained his MCL and suffered a bruised knee.

Williams, who had one catch for 11 yards at the time of the injury, leads the Tigers with 38 catches for 609 yards and five touchdowns on the season.

No. 15 Georgia uses running game to blow out No. 9 Auburn

Todd Gurley returned with quite a splash, streaking the length of the field the first time he touched the ball.

He was a lot slower leaving Sanford Stadium, hobbling out with a sore left knee.

Gurley's injury marred an otherwise brilliant performance by No. 15 Georgia, which unleashed a dynamic 1-2 punch in the backfield and dominated defensively to beat No. 9 Auburn 34-7 on Saturday.
