Mississippi safety Trae Elston and receiver Damore'ea Stringfellow were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct early Thursday in Oxford, Mississippi.

Elston was also charged with resisting arrest. Both were booked in the Lafayette County Detention Center just after midnight, according to jail records, and both had posted bail as of Thursday afternoon.

Oxford Police Department Maj. Jeff McCutchen told The Associated Press officers responded to a "large disturbance" in downtown Oxford just before midnight and several people were arrested along with Elston and Stringfellow. McCutchen said the department had viewed a video of the incident and no further charges are expected at this time.

The Jackson (Mississippi) Clarion-Ledger first reported the arrests.

A jury convicted two ex-Vanderbilt football players on Tuesday of raping a former student, rejecting claims that they were too drunk to know what they were doing and that a college culture of binge drinking and promiscuous sex should be blamed for the attack.

The jury deliberated for three hours before announcing that Brandon Vandenburg and Cory Batey were guilty. Batey was stoic, staring ahead and Vandenburg shook his head "no,'' appearing stunned. His father had an outburst and abruptly left the courtroom.

The victim, who was a 21-year-old neuroscience and economics major at the time of the 2013 attack, cried as each guilty verdict was announced.

Both men were convicted of four counts of aggravated rape, one count of attempted aggravated rape and two counts of aggravated sexual battery. They face decades in prison when they are sentenced March 6.

Byron Cowart is finally an Auburn Tiger.

It only took roughly seven hours filled with conflicting reports, miscommunication and some unusual behavior. In one of the more bizarre stories on signing day, the No. 1-ranked prospect in the ESPN 300 announced on national television Wednesday morning he would play for Auburn.

Texas A&M defensive coordinator John Chavis has sued both his former employer, LSU, and his current one over a buyout he claims he doesn't owe.

In a lawsuit filed Friday in Brazos County, Texas, Chavis claims he doesn't owe LSU a $400,000 buyout the university is seeking from him for terminating his contract with the Tigers. Chavis left LSU for the same post at Texas A&M earlier this year.

A judge agreed Monday that Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly has met the community service and other conditions of a plea agreement reached after he was arrested for fighting with bouncers outside a Buffalo nightclub.

"Mr. Kelly has done everything he was required to do," his attorney, Thomas Eoannou, told City Court Judge Susan Eagan, who accepted the findings at a brief hearing, which Kelly did not attend.

"This case is over," Eoannou said after the appearance. "It is behind him as of right now and he's looking forward to playing football."

Missouri has named Houston athletic director Mack Rhoades IV as the school's new AD.

The school said Monday that Rhoades will assume the post in late April after the board of curators approved the hire in a special session.

Rhoades succeeds Mike Alden, who announced in January that he will step down at the end of the summer after 17 years. The 49-year-old Rhoades was a candidate for Texas A&M's athletic director opening in 2012 when Missouri Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin was president at that school.

Every time he looks at his phone, Laquon Treadwell is reminded of the injury that cost him the final four games of his sophomore season.

It was an injury that looked so horrific when it happened, some thought he might never play again. Even Treadwell, considered one of the SEC’s top wide receivers, said he couldn’t watch the video when he woke up at the hospital the next day. It was too hard.

Dan Mullen looks to keep building on Mississippi State success

Dan Mullen passed by another version of himself coming into work one warm, sunny day this spring. There, in the lobby of Mississippi State’s football facility, he walked by a row of flatscreen TVs showing a replay of the 2010 Gator Bowl. It was a fuzzy picture -- standard definition was still a thing then -- so he might have missed how different he looked on the sideline. Stern, serious Dan, thinking of going for it on fourth-and-1 early in the second quarter. He hardly relaxes when Vick Ballard bursts through the middle of the defense, losing his helmet as he gains 6 yards and a first down.

Brothers leads No. 24 Missouri past Southeast Missouri 34-3

Kentrell Brothers was all over the field, racking up 10 tackles on No. 24 Missouri's first 26 defensive plays. In the third quarter, the linebacker made the play that really put the Tigers in the clear.

Brothers finished with a career-best 16 tackles and blocked a punt that was returned for a touchdown in the Tigers' season-opening 34-3 victory over Southeast Missouri State on Saturday.

Muschamp defense helps No. 6 Auburn beat Louisville 31-24

With Jeremy Johnson taking over at quarterback, No. 6 Auburn looked a bit sluggish on offense.

Fortunately for the Tigers, Will Muschamp's revamped defense came up with a couple of huge plays.

The former Florida coach made his debut as Auburn's defensive coordinator, charged with turning around a unit that fell apart late last season. The first half of the opening game was promising, with an interception leading to the Tigers' first touchdown and Justin Garrett scoring on an 82-yard fumble return.

Allen's career day leads No. 18 Arkansas past UTEP 48-13

Brandon Allen wanted to leave a lasting first impression on new Arkansas offensive coordinator Dan Enos.

The senior quarterback did that while going a long way to showing he's up to leading a talent-rich group of Razorbacks loaded with expectations for the first time in his career as the starter.

With Enos calling the plays for the first time since leaving his job as head coach at Central Michigan, Allen was at his best -- and most efficient -- in leading No. 18 Arkansas to a 48-13 win over UTEP in the season opener on Saturday.

Lightning causes cancellation of McNeese St.-LSU after delay

With less than five minutes of football in the books this season, No. 14 LSU must now start preparing for its Southeastern Conference opener next weekend at Mississippi State.

Persistent lightning strikes near Baton Rouge caused officials to cancel the Tigers' opener with McNeese State on Saturday night following a delay of nearly four hours.

No. 25 Tennessee runs for 6 TDs, beats Bowling Green 59-30

The Tennessee Volunteers have their first victory as a ranked team since the end of the 2007 season, showing off a rushing attack to be envied even in the Southeastern Conference.

Sticking around the Top 25 will require a little work on defense.

Jalen Hurd had three first-half touchdown runs, Alvin Kamara ran for two more scores, and No. 25 Tennessee beat Bowling Green 59-30 on Saturday in a season opener delayed 80 minutes by lightning.

Auburn survives FCS' Jacksonville State with dramatic OT victory

It's difficult to imagine any win over Jacksonville State ranking with the most memorable in Auburn's history.

Then again, No. 6 Auburn's ability to dodge a major upset could prove to be just as important to its championship hopes as the program's biggest landmark wins in recent years.

Auburn avoided a defeat that would have ranked with the biggest upsets in college football history, riding a dramatic touchdown catch in the final minute and Peyton Barber's overtime touchdown run to a 27-20 win over the Gamecocks on Saturday.

No. 10 Georgia shakes off slow start, beats Vanderbilt 31-14

Georgia coach Mark Richt has to be thankful he has Nick Chubb on his roster to help make up for the Bulldogs' anemic passing game.

Chubb ran for 189 yards, Isaiah McKenzie returned a punt 77 yards for a touchdown, and No. 10 Georgia beat Vanderbilt 31-14 on Saturday in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams.
