Auburn's leading scorer suspended, 'may return' later in season

Auburn's starting lineup will take a big hit this afternoon at Georgia.

Leading scorer Kareem Canty has been suspended for the Georgia game and perhaps longer. The announcement came 30 minutes before tipoff Saturday afternoon. The suspension is indefinite.

"Kareem has had some strong moments for our team this season," Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said in a statement. "He has demonstrated that at the highest level of competition, he can win his matchup.

"However, his effort and attitude have been extremely inconsistent, which led to actions and behavior that are unacceptable. He will step away from the team for a while and may return later in the season. He is suspended indefinitely."

Jakeenan Gant, Russell Woods suspended from Missouri basketball team

Missouri players Jakeenan Gant and Russell Woods have been suspended for their game against Alabama on Saturday after they were arrested on Thursday, KRCG 13 reported.

Gant and Woods were both cited for possession of drug paraphernalia after police searched their apartment and found marijuana and smoking devices in their respective rooms. The pair's status with Mizzou will be evaluated next week.

Police obtained a search warrant for Gant and Woods' apartment after one of their roommates, Koran Ward, was named as a suspect in a home invasion robbery. On Jan. 15 police searched the apartment and found stolen the stolen property in Ward's room, as well as the drugs and paraphernalia

Auburn point guard Kareem Canty won't play at Tennessee, remains suspended indefinitely

Auburn point guard and leading scorer Kareem Canty will miss a second straight game on due a suspension for "conduct detrimental to the team."

Canty, who was suspended for Auburn's loss to Georgia on Saturday, is not practicing and will not play when the Tigers travel to Tennessee on Tuesday (6 p.m. CT, SEC Network) and if or when he'll return is uncertain.

"Kareem will not be with the team this week in Tennessee and the suspension is indefinite," Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said.

Canty leads Auburn with 18.3 points and 5.3 assists per game, which rank fifth and third in the SEC, respectively.

Pearl would not elaborate as to the specifics of Canty's suspension or say if it's possible the Harlem, New York native could have played his last game at Auburn.

"That would be between Kareem and myself," Pearl said. ""I think everything we've talked about so far is all I want to talk about at this point."

Canty is the second Auburn player in as many weeks to be suspended for "conduct detrimental to the team," with senior forward Cinmeon Bowers serving a one-game suspension against Oklahoma State on Jan. 30.

No. 22 Kentucky has it easy against Georgia in an 82-48 rout

Kentucky usually found the basket, while Georgia often emerged frustrated when it shot.

So explains a surprisingly easy victory for the 22nd-ranked Wildcats.

Jamal Murray scored 24 points, Tyler Ulis added 14 and Kentucky held Georgia to a season-low 22 percent shooting to coast to an 82-48 victory Tuesday night.

No. 22 Kentucky blows out South Carolina 89-62

Kentucky coach John Calipari wasn't around to say much about his team's fight for first place in the Southeastern Conference. Tyler Ulis,Jamal Murray and the rest of the 22nd-ranked Wildcats spoke volumes in a blowout win at South Carolina.

Ulis had career highs of 27 points and 12 assists, Murray scored 26 points and Kentucky (19-6, 9-3) ran past the Gamecocks 89-62 on Saturday -- much of it after Calipari was ejected less than 3 minutes into the game.

No. 14 Kentucky holds lead this time, beats Tennessee 80-70

Kentucky's relatively close margin of victory than in its previous three routs belied how it thoroughly controlled Tennessee.

The 14th-ranked Wildcats made long shots, worked the boards and kept their poise along with the lead -- which of course is the biggest difference from their previous meeting against the Volunteers.

Jamal Murray scored 28 points, Derek Willis made seven 3-pointers for a career-high 25 and Kentucky beat Tennessee 80-70 on Thursday night for its fourth straight victory.

Davis gives Texas A&M 79-77 win over No. 14 Kentucky in OT

When Kentucky's Isaac Humphries got a technical late in overtime on Saturday for slamming the ball to the court, there was a lot of confusion as to exactly what happened and why.

The Texas A&M Aggies weren't worried about any of that and were overcome instead by a sense of relief -- and gratitude.

"I was like, `Thank you. We appreciate the opportunity to try and go win the game," Texas A&M's Jalen Jones said. "I was shocked and it ended up working in our favor. So thanks to dude on the other team."

Tyler Davis' putback at the buzzer gave Texas A&M a 79-77 win over No. 14 Kentucky after the technical foul on Humphries cost the Wildcats the lead in the final seconds.

No. 16 Kentucky pulls away from Alabama for a 78-53 victory

Alex Poythress was hungry to play after a two-week absence because of a right knee injury. Kentucky needed a healthy body to fill a manpower void.

Poythress' return ended up better than expected and provided a needed remedy for the 16th-ranked Wildcats in a 78-53 rout of Alabama on Tuesday night.

House leads No. 21 Texas A&M over Mississippi State 68-66

Texas A&M had a little trouble getting going on Wednesday night in the wake of an emotional overtime win against Kentucky over the weekend.

In the end, the Aggies did just enough to outlast Mississippi State and grab their third straight win.

Danuel House had 16 points, including two free throws with 2.1 seconds remaining, to lift No. 21 Texas A&M to the 68-66 victory.

Fisher-Davis scores 20 as Vandy upsets No. 16 Kentucky 74-62

Vanderbilt guard Matthew Fisher-Davis has a simple approach to handling a sellout crowd wearing mostly Kentucky blue in the Commodores' home gym.

    Don't listen.

Fisher-Davis tied his career-high with 20 points, and Vanderbilt upset No. 16 Kentucky 74-62 on Saturday for its third straight victory and first over the Wildcats at Memorial Gym since 2011. This was Vanderbilt's first sellout since January 2014 -- the last time the Commodores hosted Kentucky.
