Not happening here: Kentucky stops Buffalo cold, 95-75

It'll take more than experience, grit and a double-digit dream to knock these kids from Kentucky out of the NCAA Tournament.

Namely, it'll take someone to slow down Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his fellow freshmen, who are zeroing in on the finer points of the John Calipari Hoop School at precisely the right time.

Kentucky put an end to any upset talk on its watch Saturday, getting 27 points, six rebounds and six assists from Gilgeous-Alexander in a 95-75 pullaway from scrappy, veteran 13th-seeded Buffalo.

Texas A&M stuns reigning champ UNC 86-65 in NCAA 2nd round

Texas A&M had its big men relentlessly snatching down loose rebounds, its wing players knocking down shots and an entire roster full of guys playing with aggressive confidence.

Stunningly, reigning national champion North Carolina found no match for any of it.

And just as shockingly, the Tar Heels are heading home with the most-lopsided NCAA Tournament loss of Roy Williams' Hall of Fame career.

The seventh-seeded Aggies manhandled the Tar Heels 86-65 Sunday in the second round of the West Region, marking the second straight year the titleholder has been bounced from March Madness before the Sweet 16. They dominated the glass. They used their size to control the paint and block shots. And they pounced when UNC's small-ball lineup couldn't make an outside shot.

No. 6 Tennessee breezes past Lenoir-Rhyne 86-41 in opener

Tennessee coach Rick Barnes used to walk down the railroad tracks with his brother and sneak into the gym to watch Lenoir-Rhyne basketball games when he was a kid.

Barnes returned the favor on Tuesday night by welcoming the Bears to his new home at Thompson-Boling Arena, but he didn't show his alma mater any mercy on the scoreboard.

Jordan Bone scored 18 points and Kyle Alexander added 16 as No. 6 Tennessee opened the season with an 86-41 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne.

Harper leads No. 11 Auburn to 101-58 win over South Alabama

Jared Harper opened the game with an alley-oop pass to Anfernee McLemore and drained a 3 -pointer a minute later.

It was that kind of opening night for Harper and No. 11 Auburn. The point guard had 20 points, 13 assists and six 3-pointers to lead the Tigers to a 101-58 win over South Alabama on Tuesday night in the season opener for both teams.

No. 23 LSU coasts past Southeastern Louisiana 94-63

Being a ranked team for the first time in three seasons certainly didn't faze LSU in its season-opener Tuesday.

Six players scored in double figures as the No. 23-ranked Tigers lived up to that billing by cruising past Southeastern Louisiana 94-63.

Williams leads No. 6 Vols past Louisiana-Lafayette 87-65

Tennessee's Grant Williams has some bad news for the rest of the Southeastern Conference. The league's preseason player of the year has added a 3-point shot to his arsenal.

Williams scored 31 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and shot 3 of 4 from 3-point range Friday as No. 6 Tennessee breezed to an 87-65 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette. His output Friday matched his 3-point total from all of last season, when he shot 3 of 25 from beyond the arc.

    Auburn 88, Washington 66

Washington scored the first basket of the game.

Then Auburn ran off fourteen straight points and the game was over.

Bruce Pearl’s 11th-ranked Auburn Tigers demolished a good Washington team at Auburn Arena tonight, leading by eighteen at halftime and never looking back.

Auburn’s 88-66 win gives the Tigers a winning streak, as they now sit at 2-0 on the young season, with only one game over the next week before the Maui Invitational begins before Thanksgiving.

No. 18 Mississippi St cruises past Austin Peay 95-67

Mississippi State has added a lot of talent around Quinndary Weatherspoon during his four seasons on the roster, so the Bulldogs don't need him to be the star every single night.

But in the first game of his senior year, the 6-foot-4 guard proved he's still more than capable of being the No. 1 option.

Weatherspoon scored 21 points, younger brother Nick Weatherspoonadded 19 and No. 18 Mississippi State beat Austin Peay 95-67 in the Bulldogs' season opener Friday night.

Defense carries No. 5 Tennessee past Georgia Tech 66-53

No. 5 Tennessee celebrated its first top-five ranking in more than a decade by showcasing the stingy defense that helped these Volunteers earn their rare status.

Grant Williams scored 22 points as Tennessee beat cold-shooting Georgia Tech 66-53 on Tuesday night, one day after the Vols (3-0) moved up a spot in the Top 25 to reach the top five for the first time since the 2007-08 season.

Mays scores 19, No. 22 LSU tops Memphis 85-76

Skylar Mays' soaring, one-handed, frenzy-inciting jam on a determined drive down the lane made it clear he won't always be overshadowed by the highly regarded recruits that have made LSU basketball relevant again.

Mays scored 19 points, transfer Kavell Bigby-Williams added a career-high 14, and No. 22 LSU held off a relentless effort by first-year coach Penny Hardaway's Memphis squad, 85-76 on Tuesday night.

Weatherspoon leads No. 17 Mississippi St over LBSU 79-51

Mississippi State's night turned sour after just 29 seconds when starting guard Nick Weatherspoon was rolling around on the floor, wincing in pain while clutching his sprained left ankle.

The Bulldogs looked shaken, falling behind early against a team they were supposed to beat easily. Thanks to Weatherspoon's replacement, things got better in a hurry.

Tyson Carter scored 17 points, including 13 points in the first half, to lead No. 17 Mississippi State past Long Beach State 79-51 on Friday for its third straight win to start the season.

No. 10 Kentucky easily takes care of Winthrop 87-74

Of the areas coach John Calipari can fault with No. 10 Kentucky right now, shooting isn't one of them after the Wildcats' best performance this season.

More important was that they were accurate early and consistently against Winthrop.

PJ Washington had 19 points and 11 rebounds, Tyler Herro added 15 points and Kentucky shot a season-best 56 percent to run away from the Eagles 87-74 on Wednesday.
