No. 9 Tennessee tops Texas A&M 68-54 behind Santiago Vescov

As Tennessee guard Santiago Vescovi worked around the arc during pregame shoot-around, he felt as if he was trying to force a basketball through the eye of a needle. That feeling changed in a big way after the opening tipoff minutes later.

Vescovi scored a career-high 23 points, including six 3-pointers, despite the rough practice before the game to push the No. 9 Volunteers past Texas A&M, 68-54, on Saturday.

Smith helps No. 17 Missouri beat Texas A&M 68-52

A COVID-19 pause left Missouri a little rusty before the Tigers shook it off and beat Texas A&M.

Dru Smith scored 15 points and the 17th-ranked Tigers beat the Aggies 68-52 on Saturday. It was Missouri's first game since Jan. 5 before they got paused because of a positive coronavirus test within the program.

No. 10 Tennessee rides balanced scoring, beats Vanderbilt

Nearly an hour after Saturday's game had ended, Tennessee's Victor Bailey was still launching 3-pointers in an empty arena.

Bailey wasn't taking his success in No. 10 Tennessee's 81-61 win over Vanderbilt for granted.

Petty, No. 18 Alabama rain in 3s, beat LSU 105-75

Alabama coach Nate Oats was concerned his team might lose its sense of urgency when it took the court as a member of the AP Top 25 for the first time in three seasons.

John Petty quickly calmed his coach down.

Petty made four 3-pointers before four minutes had elapsed, finishing with 24 points on eight 3s, and the 18th-ranked Crimson Tide set a Southeastern Conference record by making 23 shots from beyond the arc in a 105-75 rout of LSU on Tuesday night.

    Short-handed Florida stuns No. 6 Tennessee 75-49

Florida's best performance of the season — maybe even of coach Mike White's six-year tenure — came without three starters.

Noah Locke scored 14 points, Tyree Appleby added 13 and the short-handed Gators stunned No. 6 Tennessee in dominating fashion, 75-49 on Tuesday night.

No. 18 Alabama wins 9th straight, 81-73 over Mississippi St

No. 18 Alabama faced down a challenge and kept its winning streak alive, if not the Crimson Tide's string of blowouts.

Herbert Jones had 17 points and seven assists to help Alabama win its ninth straight game with an 81-73 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday night. This one wasn't decided until the last minute for a team that had won its past three games by an average of 27 points.

Pons leads No. 18 Tennessee past Mississippi State

Even on a miserable shooting night, Tennessee coach Rick Barnes is convinced the shots will fall sooner or later.

The 18th-ranked Volunteers hit just 37% of their shots from the field — and 16% from 3-point — but still came away with a 56-53 win over Mississippi State Tuesday night.

No. 9 Alabama wins 10th straight, beats Kentucky 70-59

In an unfamiliar situation trailing late, No. 9 Alabama came out of the under-four media timeout on a mission to get stops against Kentucky.

“We came to the huddle, and we just told each other that we know how to win these games and kind of rallied together and decided to get a steal coming out, and that’s what we did. We came out and got stops,” said Alabama guard Herb Jones.

Jaden Shackelford scored 21 points to help Alabama beat Kentucky 70-59 on Tuesday night and complete its first regular season two-game sweep over the Wildcats since 1989.

Returning to Southeastern Conference play was the only thing Alabama needed to get back to winning.

Jaden Shackelford scored 19 points and No. 10 Alabama beat LSU 78-60 on Wednesday night to remain unbeaten in league play. The Crimson Tide (15-4, 10-0 SEC) were coming off a loss at then-No. 24 Oklahoma, their first defeat in more than a month.

South Carolina pounds No. 22 Florida in paint, wins 72-66

South Carolina coach Frank Martin was beside himself as he counted 10 consecutive first-half possessions in which the ball failed to touch the paint. Turnovers. Offensive fouls. Long-range shots.

Martin made it a point of emphasis at the break, and his players responded better than anyone expected.

AJ Lawson scored 22 points, Seventh Woods added 12 and the Gamecocks beat No. 22 Florida 72-66 on Wednesday night, potentially making the Gators' return to the rankings a brief one.
