Petty, No. 11 Alabama hold off South Carolina 81-78

John Petty Jr. wasn't going to let another one slip away for Alabama.

The 11th-ranked Crimson Tide were coming off their first Southeastern Conference loss of the season last Saturday and were locked in a tight game with pesky, determined South Carolina.

Behind Petty's 20 points and three 3-pointers, they came through, bouncing back from their loss to No. 10 Missouri with an 81-78 victory over the Gamecocks on Tuesday night.

Bailey leads No. 19 Tennessee over South Carolina, 93-73

Every time South Carolina made a move, Tennessee answered.

Victor Bailey was a big part of the Volunteers' response.

Bailey connected on 7 of 10 3-pointers and scored a career-high 29 points to lead No. 19 Tennessee to a 93-73 victory over the Gamecocks on Wednesday night.

Shackelford's 27 helps No. 8 Alabama hold off Vandy, 82-78

Alabama's frequently launched 3-pointers weren't falling with their normal regularity, and Vanderbilt just wouldn't go away.

The result was familiar, if not the methodology: another Crimson Tide win.

Jaden Shackelford scored a season-high 27 points and No. 8 Alabama came from behind to beat Vanderbilt 82-78 Saturday and move a step closer to a Southeastern Conference championship.

Smiths lead No. 20 Missouri to 93-78 win over South Carolina

Dru Smith hopes all of Missouri's players-only meetings lead to this.

Smith said the 20th-ranked Tigers met without coaches heading into Saturday's game against South Carolina simply to make sure they were all of one mind heading down the season's final stretch.

Missouri certainly looked in synch, with Smith scoring 17 and Mark Smith 13 as the Tigers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 93-78 victory over struggling South Carolina.

Jackson, Kentucky win 3rd in row, top No. 19 Tennessee 70-55

It's taken a long time, but Kentucky is getting better. Just in time for the postseason, too.

A season full of frustration is finally coming into focus. The Wildcats won their third straight game Saturday, topping No. 19 Tennessee 70-55.

Flanigan scores 23, leads Auburn past No. 25 Tennessee 77-72

The Auburn Tigers, who don't have a postseason to look forward to, at least gave themselves something to celebrate with March looming.

Allen Flanigan scored a season-high 23 points and had seven rebounds to lead Auburn to a 77-72 victory over No. 25 Tennessee on Saturday. The Tigers (12-13, 6-10 Southeastern Conference) snapped a three-game losing streak even without freshman point guard Sharife Cooper, out for the second straight game with a left ankle injury.

No. 8 Alabama recovers from slow start to beat Georgia 89-79

Alabama looked ordinary when it was missing its strength as one of the nation's best 3-point shooting teams.

When the long-range shots started falling, the Crimson Tide again looked like the Southeastern Conference champions.

Herbert Jones had two baskets in a 9-0 run to open the second half that gave No. 8 Alabama the lead and the Crimson Tide beat Georgia 89-79 on Saturday.

Arkansas Shuts Down Colgate 85-68 In NCAA Opener

Arkansas' JD Notae (1) and Colgate's Tucker Richardson (15) battle for a loose ball during the first half of a first round game at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in the NCAA men's college basketball tournament, Friday, March 19, 2021, in Indianapolis

The night before his team's NCAA Tournament opener, Arkansas coach Eric Musselman sat in a hotel room and talked with his son about using full-court pressure against Colgate.

The Razorbacks didn't use their “55” defense until after they'd fallen into a 14-point hole, but once they did, the Raiders had no answer.

Call it “24 Minutes of Hell.”

Justin Smith had 29 points and 13 rebounds, and Arkansas shut down high-scoring Colgate to open the NCAA Tournament with an 85-68 win on Friday.

LSU overcomes slow start to outmuscle St. Bonaventure 76-61

LSU guard Cameron Thomas (24) reacts to the team's win over St. Bonaventure as he leaves the court after a first round game in the NCAA men's college basketball tournament, Saturday, March 20, 2021, at Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind.

Freshman Cameron Thomas scored 27 points in another impressive performance and his LSU teammates provided the rebounding muscle, leading the eighth-seeded Tigers past ninth-seeded St. Bonaventure 76-61 on Saturday and into the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Dressed down: Alabama rolls over Pitino, Iona 68-55

Iona forward Nelly Junior Joseph (23) blocks the shot of Alabama guard Jahvon Quinerly (13) in the first half of a first-round game in the NCAA men's college basketball tournament at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Saturday, March 20, 2021

Everybody knew Rick Pitino would come prepared.

That he won’t get to use any more of the eight designer suits he packed for the NCAA Tournament is only because of an Alabama team that came at Iona in waves Saturday and finally pulled away for a 68-55 win to end Pitino’s dreams as a No. 15 seed.

Short-handed Florida outlasts Virginia Tech in NCAA opener

Florida forward Colin Castleton (12) blocks the shot of Virginia Tech guard Tyrece Radford (23) in the second half of a first round game in the NCAA men's college basketball tournament at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Friday, March 19, 2021.

Florida overcame playing short-handed most of the season after preseason SEC player of the year Keyontae Johnson was lost because of a scary medical episode.

The Gators did it again, getting through to the second round for an eighth straight NCAA Tournament appearance — and doing it without two key contributors.

“This team just continues to show character,” Florida coach Mike White said. “No one’s been through what they’ve been through.”

Colin Castleton scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, Tre Mann hit a step-back 3-pointer with 23 seconds left in overtime and the seventh-seeded Gators held off No. 10 seed Virginia Tech 75-70 in a first-round game on Friday.
