    John Egbunu transfers to Florida

Former South Florida center John Egbunu has transferred to Florida, filling a scholarship left open with the departure of forward Damontre Harris.

The Gators announced Egbunu's summer enrollment Thursday, saying the 6-foot-10 center will begin attending classes June 30. He will have to sit out the 2014-15 season, after which he will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Egbunu averaged 7.4 points and 6.2 rebounds as a freshman at USF, earning a spot on the American Athletic Conference's all-rookie team.

    Vandy's Johnson, Parker to transfer

Coach Kevin Stallings says guards Kedren Johnson and Dai-Jon Parker will not be allowed to rejoin Vanderbilt this season and are transferring.

Stallings said being a Vanderbilt player is a privilege that comes with a "high level of responsibility" on and off the court. The coach said in a statement Friday night that standards were not met leading to his decision.

    Bruce Pearl lands recruit Purifoy

Roughly twenty-four hours before his show-cause penalty was set to expire, coach Bruce Pearl scored a major commitment from ESPN 100 small forward Danjel Purifoy, giving Auburn a huge boost of momentum heading into what was already expected to be a big weekend.

Pearl's three-year penalty is set to expire Saturday at midnight, marking the first time he'll be allowed to have any communication with potential recruits since he accepted the Auburn job in March.

    Kentucky hosts Big Blue Madness

Just as Drake appeared to draw the biggest cheers at Big Blue Madness, the rapper introduced Kentucky coach John Calipari and the noise then became a roar.

The Wildcats men's team gave a sold-out Rupp Arena crowd plenty more reasons to cheer with a fast-paced and sometimes-physical scrimmage Friday night that figures to ratchet expectations for a ninth national championship.

Kentucky returns six regulars from last year's NCAA tournament runner-up squad and has added four high school All-Americans, giving Calipari a 12-deep roster he plans to use with a two-platoon system. The Wildcats went 5-1 using the strategy during a summer tour of the Bahamas.

UF's Chris Walker to miss 2 games

Florida has suspended highly touted forward Chris Walker for the first two games of the season for violating team rules.

Coach Billy Donovan announced the discipline Wednesday at the team's annual media day, saying Walker also will miss an exhibition game against Barry University on Nov. 6.

Donovan also said freshman Brandone Francis won't play this season because of NCAA academic issues. A 6-foot-5 guard from the Dominican Republic, Francis has been admitted to school but "has to prove himself academically," Donovan said.

Andrew Harrison leads No. 1 Kentucky to blowout of Grand Canyon

Kentucky coach John Calipari liked the end result from the official debut of his two-platoon system, even if the top-ranked Wildcats weren't always sharp.

Despite those lulls, they still had more than enough size and talent for Grand Canyon to handle.

Andrew Harrison scored 16 points and Kentucky dominated Grand Canyon in every phase during an 85-45, season-opening blowout on Friday night.

Even in a little pain, Dorian Finney-Smith looked quite comfortable in his new role.

Finney-Smith scored 15 points, Michael Frazier II added 14 and No. 7 Florida opened the season with a 68-45 victory over William & Mary on Friday night.

    Dorian Finney-Smith cleared

Florida forward Dorian Finney-Smith has a hairline fracture in his left, non-shooting hand.

A Florida official said Sunday that Finney-Smith is cleared to play Monday against Miami (7 p.m. ESPNU) with a brace on his fractured left hand. But to what extent he will be able to contribute will depend on his pain tolerance and ability to handle the basketball.

Finney-Smith led the seventh-ranked Gators (1-0) with 15 points in their 68-45 victory against William & Mary on Friday. He injured his hand in the first half, got it wrapped and finished the game.

    Kentucky gains 2015's top class

In the span of one hour, Kentucky quickly emerged as the big winner of the early signing period -- as five-star prospects Skal Labissiere and Isaiah Briscoe committed to the Wildcats on Thursday night.

And now, John Calipari's program has the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, according to ESPN.com.

Labissiere, a native of Haiti who attends Lausanne Collegiate School (Tennessee), also had Memphis, Georgetown, Baylor, Tennessee and North Carolina on his list. He took visits to all six of the schools in the final two months of his recruitment. After Labissiere appeared like a sure thing to Memphis for most of his recruitment, Kentucky closed the gap over the past couple of weeks.

"Since my freshman year, I always wanted to go there," Labissiere said during his announcement on ESPNU. "I watched Coach Cal on TV, watched his team on TV with Anthony Davis, Nerlens Noel. That's one of the reasons I worked so hard with my academics and on the court; I wanted to have the chance to play there. My freshman year, I was hoping Coach Cal was going to offer. My sophomore year, first game, he came and offered me. That's where it all started."

No. 1 Kentucky crushes No. 5 Kansas; lockdown defense key

Kentucky coach John Calipari made one simple adjustment to his game plan Tuesday night.

    He scrapped the zone.

The Wildcats didn't need it. Instead, a fierce man-to-man defense got No. 5 Kansas out of sync and No. 1 Kentucky ran away with its most impressive win of the season- a 72-40 victory in the State Farm Champions Classic.

No. 1 Kentucky pulls away from pesky Terriers

    - After throwing waves of stifling defense at No. 5 Kansas, top-ranked Kentucky showed that it could shoot the ball just as well against Boston University.

Aaron Harrison scored 19 points, Devin Booker added 15 along with seven assists, and the Wildcats shot nearly 59 percent from the field in the second half to pull away from the Terriers for an 89-65 victory Friday night.

Frazier helps No. 8 Florida beat ULM 61-56 in OT

    Florida's short-handed situation might be a long-term problem.

Michael Frazier II scored 16 of his 21 points after halftime, and the eighth-ranked Gators rallied to beat Louisiana-Monroe 61-56 in overtime Friday night.

Kentucky forces 21 turnovers to pick apart Montana State

For the second time in three games, top-ranked Kentucky demonstrated how dominant it can be when it plays tight defense.

Just ask overmatched Montana State, which went scoreless for more than 13 minutes Sunday night.

Devin Booker scored a career-best 18 points, Aaron Harrison added 14 as the Wildcats raced to an 86-28 victory.

Short bench for Gators in Bahamas

Florida coach Billy Donovan expects to have just six scholarship players available in the Bahamas.

Although guard Eli Carter and forward Dorian Finney-Smith are making the trip to Paradise Island, Donovan isn't counting on either to play.

"I really don't know with those guys," Donovan said Monday. "My feeling right now going into this is we're going to basically have the team we had playing against Louisiana-Monroe. That's how I'm going into it right now, how I'm approaching it."
