So, last we heard from the bubble in late August was that Zach had suffered "a hairline medial malleolus stress fracture of his left ankle" and would need surgery. Since then, as far as I can tell with a bunch of on-line searching is total crickets. Has anybody else heard if/when he had the surgery, what the timeline is to return to basketball activity, and if he's likely to be ready by opening night? Seems kind of odd for there to be so little news about a guy you'd think would be penciled in for a fairly significant role this year.
This is why we need Mike Barrett still working for the Blazers. We have no one to tell us how Collins has put on 20lbs of muscle and has never looked better.
Here's a case study of a 16 year-old baseball pitcher who had the same injury. He was ready to return to baseball three months after surgery. You have to wonder if a guy as big as Zach, and who plays basketball, which involves more running and jumping than baseball, might take a longer time to heal enough to play. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6380793/
Yes, it is a little weird to hear nothing. When Nurk was making strides, there were pics. Silence is not always peaceful.
He probably be ready in January I believe it takes 3 months to heal and if that true then he should able to some work in December.
If he can make the next step, he is exactly what we need. A defensive role player who can cover the four and five outside.
