If you're going to fight for a trade idea at least try to make it realistic.

You're presupposing two very foolish things things: one, that NYK HAS to trade him for nothing (they dont) and two that D-wade is somehow the key to getting Melo (which is bullshit cause Chi aint on his list). In order to accomplish your plan you would have us give up Collins, a guy we traded up to get in the draft along with all our best players outside of our big three for 35-year-old Dwane Wade. A man who most likely will get a buyout on the hopes that somehow seeing Wade in Portland, Melo will force NYK to trade him for nothing (which again he cannot do) and spend his last year under contract here. In that scenario we would go into the season maybe being able to field a 12 man roster...maybe? What happens when someone gets hurt? What happens when the contracts are up and we are left with nothing? Telling me to get outta here after you spent the evening defending THIS aids riddled shit bag of a trade?

YOURE GOING TO HAVE TO TRY HARDER

Just try for us who dont live in the world where your opinions are reality and reality is just a blog about a TV show.

Trading Collins for Wade is enormously ridiculous.

Dame is in LA doing something for 2k since 2k18 is out in september. I imagine dame and cj are reaching out to melo though.

Looking at it as a whole with a version that doesn't involve us giving up Collins certainly makes things look very lopsided in our favor (and that's with including Vonleh to NY instead of Davis).

So, what are the changes that would be necessary in order to make this actually look even for all involved?

Even if you could convince Melo to come here, then what? He's over the hill, declining, takes a fuck-ton of shots and has never been anything but a disinterested defender.

Frankly, the only thing I would be excited about is dumping a couple of shitty contracts. There's nothing here that will change this team's fortunes on the court.

I think you guys are way over downplaying the impact Melo would have on the floor. We are talking about a perennial all star and perhaps the best team player on team USA. Yeah he has declined a little, last years was down 2.6pts, 0.7reb, and 0.2ast from his career numbers, yeah not enough to complain about. But here's the simplest way to think about it. Is he better than any of the players heading out? Absolutely. Does he shorten our financial obligations? Absolutely. And he does so without affecting our core at all.

How many better players in the NBA could we possibly add? If you are bitching about preferring Kevin Love you might want to leave the "no defense" by Anthony argument at the door.

This is a no brainer, it hands down makes the Blazers a top 4 team in the league.

I mostly agree with this. I do think we can get a little better with him, but not enough that we should jeopardize our long term future. But like you said swapping some come bad contracts isn't too bad. Especially since he would opt out of this current contract next summer if things did not go well during the 2017-18 season.

I do think he wants to play with his "banana boat" friends. Guys he knows better than say Dame or CJ. So I am sure there is a big difference to him between playing in Houston or Cleveland than somewhere like Portland. And it probably has nothing to do with the city. Just the fact he has probably talked to these other guys during the olympics and on vacations, about playing together.

collins for wade is way too much from our side unless we can get rid of one of Crabbe/Turner AND Meyers

Interesting trade would be Meyers/Harkless/Crabbe 2018 top 10 protected for Wade and Lopez. we get two quality players one of which is a huge 24mil expiring and cut a yr off Meyers contract and get a great Nurk backup for 2 more yrs and Collins should be ready for significant minutes by then.

Debatable. Compare the advanced stats between Melo and Mo last year. What is the basis for the claim that Melo was better? Is it all situation? Do we think that Dame/CJ elevate Mo, while the toxic situation in NY depresses Melo's performance, and that if they were switched, Melo would actually be a more positive impact on this team than Mo was?

    Hello darkness, my old friend
The thing to complain about is his scoring efficiency. For a guy who's main strength is scoring, he's an extremely inefficient scorer.

That's a good argument for the case that Anthony won't hurt the team. It's not a particularly compelling argument that Anthony makes a huge difference. As PtldPlatypus noted, it's not clear that Anthony is much better than Harkless, especially when you take defense into account and take names out of the equation.

Both are poor defensive players, but Love is a much better rebounder and significantly more efficient scorer. I'd much, much rather have Love than Anthony at this stage of their careers.

Only if they were a top-four team already. In no way do I think Anthony makes them a far better team. At best, he'd be a marginal improvement. I wouldn't mind an Anthony acquisition since it reduces Portland's long-term salary burden without getting worse, but the idea that he's still a superstar, or even a star (in terms of performance, not marketing) is not reality in my opinion.

Melo would be a huge upgrade at SF for us. Fits in at PF, too.

Is he enough, added to our core, to compete for a championship? Dubious.

I think NO would consider other options, if available. Like the offer he made for PG.

I'm tired of talking about this. There hasn't been any developments in days. Not a peep about whether he would consider us.

It's probably going to come down to whether he's okay wasting one of the few remaining years he has left not making the playoffs in New York, or at least making the playoffs here and maybe even winning a series. We're going to learn a lot about this guy with what he decides.

He only has one year left on his deal, so I think it's very likely this game of chicken could last the remainder of the year. I guess we'll see.
