I think as we get closer to training camp, and a deal with Houston doesn't get done, our chances of getting Melo increase.

It's a lot to give up for what may well turn out to be a one-year rental, but yeah, put me down as approving too.

I think it for Melo it comes down to whether having a fun year playing in Portland, but away from his kid, offsets enough of the misery that playing on a losing Knicks squad, but in the same city as his kid lives. I can't speak for Melo, but for me, I'd play out my contract.

With Melo I don't think that pick would end up being very good anyway.

I think there are other factors in play that you have to consider. Melo is 33 years old. He doesn't have very many years left at a high level. His numbers are already slipping. So really the question is:

Do I waste another year, of which I might not have many left, to play out my contract and be with my kid? Or do I accept a trade to a team with three really good pieces already in place, who has made the playoffs four years in a row, and has a good chance of contending?

Melo will have plenty of time to spend with his kid in a few years.

Good points, and you may well be right. It would make for a fun Blazers season...at least offensively.

His kid could be a fucking STAR in the NW and get major college offers. Send his lil' ass to Jesuit and call it day.

Kiyan is 10. You ever spent much time with a rich 10-year-old?

Portland is looking better every day.

I think that's overly optimistic. I don't think Melo is at all in "must get traded no matter what" mode. If he was, then yeah, he might eventually feel pressured to include more teams (maybe Portland) if the Knicks made it clear that no Houston trade was happening.

But, from what I've read and heard, Melo likes the city of New York a lot. I think he'll just play out his remaining one or two years if he doesn't get what he really wants, which is to play with Paul (or James, but likely not in Cleveland now).

Jesus is using Woj as his sources, like everyone else (except Shams).

Seems as or more likely to be the other way around. If you think of the sermon on the mount as the original Woj bomb, it actually fits the lore relatively well.
