Even with the Nuggets he was a ball stopper. Its in his DNA.

It's funny how everybody thinks that coming to Portland will cause Carmelo to okay a different, better style of basketball than he has his whole career.

He's shown he's a good team player playing next to Durant and Lebron while playing against fringe NBA talent. Somehow that means that he'll be a good team player in Portland even though he has never been a good team player in his 13 NBA seasons?

Y'all would hate this acquisition when were giving up 130 points a game next season while Carmelo is shooting 40% on contested mid-range jumpers while freezing out Dame, CJ, and Nurkic.

Not if we got PG first. Melo would be like the 3rd or 4th option. Also HIGHLY tradeable if shit don't work out.

So Melo is a vet mentor, and all the unnecessary attention he'd bring would be good for the franchise? Is the goal to get better or to get more ESPN games and TMZ Sports features?

Dame doesn't need a mentor. He'd mentor Carmelo. Carmelo has a history of being a playoff loser.

People are reaching to try to justify this idea.

Why is New York having SDI much trouble then? He'd be extremely hard to trade once he's declined further, is making $28M a year and has a no trade clause.

Rudy Gay is better than Carmelo. They're the same type of player and nobody wants Rudy Gay.

I feel like this board is desperate for a big name with some tenure.

Between most late 1st round picks likely being good NBA starters or all-stars, and people thinking Melo would be a good fit here, this board is unrealistically optimistic right now. Which is weird because I'm usually the one who's unrealistically optimistic going into the offseason.

Back in Michael Jordan's early years, you needed to add a second star to win a championship. Then Garnett and Jesus S. joined forces with The Truth in Beantown and Lebron and Bosh took their act to South Beach to join forces with DWade and you needed a Big 3 to win. Now, KD joins GSW and you need a Big 4 to win it all. Let's be the first to have a Big 5.

Come on Neil, get out in front of this.

    Dame
    C.J.
    PG13
    Melo
    Nurk

Plus, Turner, Aminu, KOQ and whoever else wants to come along for the ride coming off the bench.

No he's not and no they're not. Gay is coming off a serious injury and has rarely played on a winning team.

When he was in DEN, Melo's teams regularly won 50+ games and finished 1st in the NW Division. His first full season in NY, they won 54 games, finished first in the ATL division and advanced to the second round.

Since then (and even before then), the Knicks were a dumpster fire of catastrophic proportions.

Melo has averaged over 28 ppg three times in his career and over 21 ppg 14 times. Gay's best is 21.1 ppg . Melo's career best is 8.1 prpg, he's averaged over 7 rpg four times. Gay's best is 6.7 rpg . Melo's career best is 4.2 apg, he's averaged over 3 apg 7 times. Gay's best is 3.7 and he's only averaged over 3 apg that one time. Not the same player. Not even close.

Your point is valid, but you're over selling it.

I agree! Like Carmelo or not, Blazers front office finally gets the balls to trade for a disgruntled star in the NBA. Move on from the draft.
