I think there is only room for one fat and out of shape post player on our team. Am I being replaced?

Yeah well, Carmelo is hardly a great player. He's 19th all-time in scoring which was the only thing he ever did reasonably well. How many "great" players w/o health problems can't even find teams who want them in their early 30's.
No one is saying he sucks, but he doesn't deserve a farewell tour, he hardly deserves being in the HOF. Much better players never got a farewell tour.

He rebounded reasonably well and in his glory days, he was a decent defender. Also forgot to mention his NCAA championship. He’s one of the best to ever play the game.

Top what? 50? He had one year he averaged over 8 rebounds per game (at 8.1) and 4 total he was over 7, so no not terrible, but not exactly elite either. He had one year in his entire career he averaged over four assists, Kobe the guy everyone calls a chucker averaged more than 4 assists all but 4 years of his career. I mean again, Carmelo in his prime was a very good scorer, and heck maybe even today could be I don't know. He's not AI who was a cultural phenom, he's not like Malone or Stockton, or a plethora of other guys who kept getting close to winning a ring and just never could (he was never that close). I'll give you that he had a good career, but worthy of running around doing a farewell tour? Not in my book. Like I said I think that "honor" is for the greatest of the greats, and again Carmelo did not have major injury problems and in his early 30's (now he's in his mid 30's) was basically chased out of the league, even Chris Paul who is only one year younger was able to at the same age get a gigantic contract.

So yeah I'll give you he had a good career, he was an elite scorer for 5-6 years, but it's my opinion which matters just as much as yours does (which is very little to the NBA world lol), I don't think he deserves to go on a farewell tour, I mean if you aren't a NYK fan or maybe a Denver fan, does the rest of the NBA fan bases really care that much it's not like he had some lasting mark on the entire league.

That was ring chasing, not a farewell tour imo.

Not really though. Then Payton got one too? possibly the best PG defender of all time?

Neither of them got it in my opinion.

They both did. They got a last goodbye year. It didn't work out well, but they got it.

We shall have to agree to disagree. Payton moved on to Miami and continued playing.
I don't recall Malone getting ovations his last year at opponents stadiums? But I don't remember him NOT getting them either... lol.

I could not be remembering it well, but I pretty much just remember Kobe / Shaq fighting all year, I don't remember a lot about Payton / Malone's time in LA. I sure don't remember it being treated like a farewell tour type of thing, but maybe that's just my memory not working.

You guys think if Carmelo signs with a team for a last year people will give standing ovations and cheer him everywhere he goes. Probably not.

Malone got hurt in the playoffs and retired. It might not have been his last year otherwise.

Melo will make the NBA Hall of Fame just on his play for Team USA over the years.
