Top-ranked Gonzaga cruises to win over Loyola Marymount

After a pair of close calls last week, Gonzaga coach Mark Few felt it was the right time to once again stress what is associated with being the top-ranked team in the country.

His young Bulldogs definitely received the message.

Gonzaga rolled to its second straight easy victory Saturday, defeating Loyola Marymount 87-62. The win comes on the heels of a 41-point rout of San Diego two days earlier.

No. 1 Gonzaga trounces Santa Clara 104-54

Coach Mark Few took a moment to reflect on Gonzaga's record-tying 32nd consecutive regular-season West Coast Conference win, one of the easier victories in the streak.

“It means we're really, really consistent,'' Few said. ”We're focused."'

‘’We don't take anything for granted. We get everybody's best effort,'' Few added. "It means you are not slipping up mentally or physically.''

Joel Ayayi scored 19 points and Filip Petrusev and Admon Gilder each scored 18 as top-ranked Gonzaga routed Santa Clara 104-54 Thursday night.

Petrusev scores to lead No. 2 Gonzaga past Santa Clara 87-72

Filip Petrusev was confident he could score every time he got the ball for No. 2 Gonzaga on the low block no matter defense Santa Clara tried. He almost did, too.

And despite taking another hit to their roster, the Bulldogs kept rolling.

Petrusev had a career-high 31 points and nine rebounds and Gonzaga pulled away late in the second half and beat Santa Clara 87-72 on Thursday night.

No. 2 Gonzaga holds off USF 83-79 in furious WCC finish

Mark Few had to think for a moment back to when his Gonzaga group last got pushed quite like this.

That's because it's nearly two months.

Corey Kispert's three-point play with 1:33 left put his team ahead for good and he then knocked down a jumper with 34 seconds remaining, leading No. 2 Gonzaga past scrappy San Francisco for a hard-fought 83-79 victory Saturday to extend its winning streak to 15 games.

No. 2 Gonzaga hands St. Mary's biggest home loss since 2001

Gonzaga coach Mark Few could find almost nothing to complain about. Saint Mary's coach Randy Bennett saw nothing redeeming.

It added up to a surprising blowout in what usually is a tightly contested rivalry.

Drew Timme scored 20 points and No. 2 Gonzaga made 14 of its first 15 shots to send Saint Mary's to its worst home loss in 19 years with a 90-60 victory on Saturday night.

No. 23 BYU edges Santa Clara 85-75

It turns out blistering 3-point shooting is not the only tool in BYU's arsenal.

When the shots did not fall from the perimeter on Thursday night, the No. 23 Cougars settled into attacking the basket and it helped them eventually pull away from Santa Clara for an 85-75 victory.

Tillie leads No. 2 Gonzaga over San Francisco 71-54

For the second time this season, San Francisco led second-ranked Gonzaga at halftime, and for the second time the Bulldogs needed a big second half to rally for a victory.

Gonzaga coach Mark Few had a few words for his team at halftime Thursday night.

"Just be us," Few said after the Zags beat San Francisco 71-54.

Saint Mary's slips past No. 14 BYU 51-50 in WCC semifinal

Jordan Ford knew he was getting the ball. Everyone in the Saint Mary’s huddle told him to attack the basket with the game on the line.

He chose a jumper instead, and it turned out to be the right choice.

Ford hit a pull-up with 1.4 seconds to go, giving the Gaels a 51-50 win over No. 14 BYU in the West Coast Conference Tournament semifinals Monday night.

Ayayi helps No. 2 Gonzaga outlast San Francisco in WCC semi

Joel Ayayi is always ready whenever his team needs him.

Gonzaga needed him on Monday night, and he delivered.

Ayayi scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half and the second-ranked Bulldogs withstood a scare to beat San Francisco 81-77 on Monday night in the West Coast Conference Tournament semifinals.

    Gonzaga's impressive win vs. Kansas

Gonzaga was ranked No. 1 in the preseason Associated Press Top 25 poll for the first time in school history earlier this month. When the Zags opened the season Thursday against Kansas, they undeniably looked like a team that deserves the number next to their name.

Final score: Gonzaga 102, Kansas 90.

San Francisco stuns No. 4 Virginia 61-60 in Bubbleville

Virginia's Trey Murphy III, left, is fouled by San Francisco's Josh Kunen in the
first half of an NCAA college basketball game, Friday, Nov. 27, 2020, in
    Uncasville, Conn.

San Francisco shocked No. 4 Virginia on Friday, scoring the biggest upset of the young college basketball season and the program's biggest win in decades.

Jamaree Bouyea scored 19 points and the Dons used a late 8-0 run to beat the Cavaliers 61-60 in the Homelight Classic, part of the “Bubbleville” event at the Mohegan Sun arena in Connecticut.

No. 1 Gonzaga rallies to beat No. 11 West Virginia 87-82

Losing Jalen Suggs in the first half shook up No. 1 Gonzaga.

Getting him back in the second half Wednesday provided a needed jolt of energy.

Joel Ayayi matched his career high with 21 points and Andrew Nembhard and Corey Kispert each scored 19 points, and Suggs’ return shifted the transition game into gear to help the Bulldogs rally past No. 11 West Virginia 87-82.

BYU beats No. 18 San Diego St despite Mitchell's 35 points

In a normal visit to San Diego State, the BYU Cougars would have to face a trash-talking student section and a sellout crowd of 12,414 at Viejas Arena.

Not this time. Because of COVID-19, Viejas Arena was empty Friday, which allowed the Cougars to focus strictly on the No. 18 Aztecs.

Alex Barcello scored 22 points and Brandon Averette hit a huge 3-pointer with 51 seconds left for BYU, which blew a 17-point lead before beating San Di
